There aren’t many games the majority of gamers know the launch date for or keep tabs on. Quote

Days Gone is far from mediocre as far as I'm concerned, it's one of my favorite games this gen. Everything about it is solid IMO. It has an entertaining story, an interesting cast of characters, a big game world packed with things to do and great melee/shooting/stealth combat. And the zombie hoards/mobs are intense. It appealed to me right from the start, and I enjoyed every minute of it. 2 hours ago, Keyser_Soze said: I liked the spikey face girl She's back. 1 Quote

It's only to illustrate how backwards @Xbob42's take is. For a new IP from a developer that has not been in the AAA space for decades, Days Gone has done relatively well at becoming a known property. A jump in the charts a year+ after release supports that. Quote
crispy4000 Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 Or the fact that more people bought Days Gone than RE2 on PS4. He never presented an argument to support his assertion. Quote
GameDadGrant Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 I’m pretty sure both Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate and Metroid Prime: Federation Force were both subject to a lot of ire/hate/bad reviews. But I actually really liked both. Maybe not “love” but there are so few games I truly love anymore. ...wait, does 3DS count as “this gen” still? Quote

Xbob42 Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 I dunno about "sold well" since the current metrics put it at "it almost sold as much as x, so that's good, right?" but sure! Strange that there's no numbers, but I'm sure that's a coincidence! I know Days Gone is beloved around the nation and around the world! A masterpiece that will be remembered for years to come by the dozens of fans who can remember it! Quote

A masterpiece that will be remembered for years to come by the dozens of fans who can remember it! I don’t get what your hang up is on keeping this narrative up in spite of the facts. True, we don’t have direct numbers for Days Gone. Best we have is that it outsold Mario U Deluxe in 2019. Which was at 6.6 million as of March this year. So put two and two together: It sold well. IMO, no game making the overall annual NPD Top 20 should be considered forgotten or unnoticed. Because we could expect any game doing that to sell 5+ million these days. Quote

ShreddieMercury Posted June 3, 2020 Posted June 3, 2020 Bizarrely, this conversation has me thinking about playing Days Gone even though it doesn't seem like my thing and "freakers" is the worst name I've ever heard for anything. How much open-world bullshit do you have to deal with in Days Gone? More or less than Horizon Zero Dawn? Because that was too much for me. Quote

Days Gone has a much smaller and more dense open world than Horizon Zero Dawn, and it has a lot less filler as well. Some of its optional side activities are repeated a lot, but you can ignore doing them if you choose. Quote

RE4 is infinitely better paced and nearly spotless while TEW is a diamond in the rough as far as I'm concerned at least. It's more like a really fun and cool pastiche of a whole slew of games. Quote

That take was hyperbolic i admit. RE4's pacing, atmosphere and game design are timeless and influential in ways that are almost unprecedented in gaming, but I still think movement while aiming, more challenging combat and limited supplies of items, The Last of Us-inspired stealth mechanics, and a slightly more well written story are examples of progressions on it, many of which will appear in the remake. Have you played it on PC by the way? I've been wondering if it's worth picking up on a technical level for potential improvements over the PS4 version. Quote
