this game is so ****ing massive. I'm level 100, 65 hours in and there's still soooo much left to do/discover. I went in blind for about the first 50ish hours but I had to start looking stuff up and wow I'm overwhelmed.

Yeah, the strategy I took was to play through each area blind and then when I'm "finished" use the interactive map on the wiki to mop up important things I missed.

I thought there was some kind of debuff or plague on me preventing me from using  a sorcery to enchant my weapon (the black flame blade) but turns out I was using the Ashes that allow you to put holy on your weapon so I guess if you have those ashes equipped you can't use other enchantments. I switched it to the Mark Loretta slash and now I can put my black flame on it. :p

screwed up the storyline for pot friend

You probably didn't. I think that as long as you talk to him in the lava area behind a magma wyrm boss he will appear in the final legacy dungeon which is where his questline basically ends.

Hit level 150! I have to pull myself from this new spot to grind out runes. It’s not a trick or anything they just put an enemy that gives 6.3k literally 3 seconds from a site of grace and I can kill them with two hits of my giant hunt so even this high level I can level up in about 5 minutes, it’s basic free ruins since they can’t block it or anything.

91 hours and I finally opened up the back end to that Gael tunnel. I think I might have screwed up the storyline for pot friend because I went to his destination before opening the door.

When you went back to open that door,

Spoiler

Was he still there? Because when I did. He wasn't. He did show up for the Radahn fight though and was there after the fight as well.

He was not. But from what I understand he just moves on. Which matches what other NPCs do, though I figured this one was more interactive like the guy in DSII who you need to unpetrify that woman for him to move. :p

This is my time actually playing a From Software game and I think I've died 200+ times in the <20 hours.

Does anyone use mouse and keyboard? I normally use m+k, but thought this game is probably set up for a controller so opted for that first.  However one annoying habbit I have is, when trying to re-lock to an enemy when I'm running away from it, is the fucking camera will reset and I'll be looking the completely wrong direction since lock on and camera reset are the same button. I'm about to see if I can unbind camera reset, but really I just prefer mouse camera in general. Is keyboard control intuitive for this game?

There is an auto lock setting, maybe it's related to that.

I have it set to on but it only auto locks after an enemy dies.

I do. It's not bad. The main advantage I am finding now that I am trying out my new controller is it kinda helps in multi enemy battles. With WASD you only have 8 direction to move in but in general it's not an issue if you try to fight enemies one at a time and if you use like a sword. I was using the halberd this game so I poke stuff in front of my character but when I used great swords and such it's almost a non issue. For movement because of that 8 direction limit you want to use the mouse to make granular movement changes.

I have beat Dark Souls Remastered, Dark Souls 3, and Elden Ring with KB&M. The only one I probably won't beat with KB&M is Dark Souls 2 because it has really weird mouse controls and you can rebind them but it's limited.

I might switch to a controller for Sekiro but I am not sure. I play that one now on my HDTV since it doesn't support ultrawide. However I am late game so switching controller schemes probably isn't wise.

Also do want to shout out high end controllers. I have always wanted to try the xbox elite but found it way too expensive. However since I'm doing good right now I bought a Razer Wolverine. Love everything about it. (Bonus points for RGB) only negative is it isnt wireless like the elite controller but I flanked that by buying a USB extension cable.

beat the asshole boss and...didn't really get anything but a talisman and a dead end.

Am I missing something here?

Spoiler

Hit the wall by the alter i think. Basically the center of the wall opposite the door. Now it leads to a frustrating jump puzzle and you need Melina alive to advance. My understandingnis it let's you do a quest for Fia. Also you get the best shield in the game. It's a two fingers stone shield. It's super heavy but if you max it out with stones and get the ring that reduces the stamina cost of blocking you won't spend stamina to block.

I tried mouse and keyboard for a bit but seems that you can't quickly navigate items in your pouch like you can on controller, so I'm just going to stick with it. I have been using a Steam controller to try and get the best of both worlds - back paddles for quicker access, mouse like camera movement, and some other custom bindings. Really would like a D-pad for the tactile feel of switching consumables, but now I really just need to grind the game and learn the patterns. I've been stuck on Godrick the Grafted for a day now.

There seems to be no way to separate camera reset/lock on binding for either control scheme. I too use auto lock but sometimes it does not switch to the next enemy after I defeat one.

Malenia fucking DEAD. Took over an hour even summoning coop at level 151. I was getting in a lot of matches too, she is just fucking stupid. It doesn’t seem like it’s anything you’d be supposed to beat in a normal fight, that it’s only there to find some way to cheese past or totally over level. So glad that’s done.

I still feel hand rage from this boss!

I thought it was you who mentioned Sif being the saddest fight in souls. Maybe not. Its so far back in the thread, I wouldn't bother looking.

Maybe it was me, but I doubt it. I say shit and forget it instantly.

Map mousewheel to swap items. Thats mu biggest complaint about items. I find myself needing to either not more or awkwardly use my right thumb to switch items.

Even on the PC with mouse wheel down it csn get annoying in a boss battle. PC really needs item hot keys like other RPGs.

I think I would be terrible at this game on mouse and keyboard.

I saw a video of a girl playing, and playing well, on a laptop mouse pad. Like, she was doing well. I mean, I know its just attacking and aiming, but I can barely surf the net without my mouse on my laptop, let alone play this.
