Elden Ring - Information Thread, update (02/21): Shadow of the Erdtree DLC "Collector's Edition Messmer the Impaler Statue" trailer

Recommended Posts

I just keep finding more and more stuff. I'm addicted to this game. I can't remember the last time I've played a game for a month straight (with one short forced break due to vacation) aside from years WoW, and that was a particularly bad part of my life where I was hiding from myself and my problems. It was an escape. This is more of a draw. Im drawn to the exploration and the system of reward that exploration brings, from the most basic (runes and upgrade materials) to weapons, armors, key items, and more mysteries.

Im definitely very much running out of things to do in my main playthrough, but I still keep searching for more.

I might try for the platinum, I only need 3 trophies, and none are bosses. Luckily i picked up Bolt of Gransax, because it's missable.

I was trying to explain to a friend the other night just why the game is getting so much attention and why people are raving about it so much when essentially it's "another souls game."

What I finally came down to was this; the world is dangerous. Really, think about it. How many open world games are actually "dangerous?" Most of them are setup like sandbox playgrounds where we zip around from place to place and cover the entire breadth of a map inside of a few hours. What's over there? Eh, I'll just run over there real quick and find out, or hop in my monster truck and drive. With Elden Ring, not only is the world huge, but going somewhere is a journey, and at any moment that journey can come to an abrupt end.

I think that's what has held my attention for so long. I love exploration in games, but 99% of the time, you explore everything everywhere because the games are so forgiving. I can't remember the last time I stood still in a game and asked myself "do I really want to risk it?" (Actually, I DO remember, it was Final Fantasy XI Online, because the death penalty in that game was BRUTAL).

A PERFECT example of this was Dying Light 2, since I just recently beat that one. They have this whole game world that supposed to be dangerous and risky, but you can outrun and out hop virtually everything in the game, and the most dangerous enemy in the game is completely avoidable. Within a few hours I had run from one side of that city to the other and it no longer held any mystery. I ended up beelining the story because the world no longer held any interest to me. The first Dying Light was way more dangerous, and going out at night had a real risk/reward to it.

It's been a long time since I've actually desired to explore a world and felt like there was some risk to it.

Just use that storm ruler gimmick sword they give you for the fight. Unless you want beat him legit but that’s like those psychos who beat Yhorm legit, why bother.

Look for him at the roundtable hold. Talk to people often when you have the chance.

Yeah, I found him on the balcony there, but I went through all his dialogue and just ended up with a sword.  Maybe I need to talk to somebody else I've missed somewhere.  I'm pretty sure I touched the proper bloodstain as I've cleared all his dialogue choices.

Fire Giant made me take a break for a couple of days. I’ve gotten close, I can mostly see what I’m doing wrong, but that second phase is frustrating. Get hit by one thing, and before you recover something else hits you then you’re dead.

Holy shit. I've got such a long way to go to "beat" this game. I need to get back into it.

Oh yeah, I can't imagine how Miyazaki said the game was beatable in 30 hours.

I mean, yes, I know speed runners are doing crazy times (19 minutes now, I believe), they are doing them with exploit ls and the like. But actually playing this game, I don't know how you finish sub 100 hours first playthrough.

As I was saying above, never has my my mind been so taken over by a game as it was during the beginning weeks of this one. Glad I have it portable now, because I leave for 30 days for work tomorrow. Spending tonight filling 256gb high speed sd cards with games, packing it and the switch in their waterproof cases, and off to work, and hanging out with the wife.

Beat it before I get back 😜 30 days is plenty.

I did but he just went apeshit in the second phase. When I realized you have to do the first phase again I calmly put the game down for now. I'm a bit exhausted lol

Huh? She's super weak to melee and staggers easily. Quite literally just strafe left and attack between spells, roll or one in a single direction if she uses homing magic. You should have a +3 or 4 unique weapon or +6 or 7 normal weapon by then. Like a lot of the humanoid bosses, she is super weak to bleed or rot anything that does a lot of heavy poise damage.

Yeah, I'm using the Blood Grossmesser +11. (Didn't peek at the spoiler tags).

Look for a special boy on the ground.

That was the part I missed the first time. Out of all the indiscriminate hacking and slashing, I managed to not hit the ones I needed to.

And if you want a flat out answer, just ask. She's actually very easy once you understand the fight.

Once I got her to the ground, she actually did go down pretty quick.

That all said, I dun fucked up again already lol. I respec'd and wouldn't you know I forgot to add the two Dex points I need to wield my weapon properly. FML.

A friend has been telling me about Elden Ring for several weeks. He normally hates souls games (as do I) and has been really been enjoying it. So last Sunday I finally bought it. I have been playing all week.

I’m 19 hours in at lvl 39, and I’m avoiding Margit for a bit longer. I want to feel like I’ve dominated this starting area and found and beat all I can before I move on.

needless to say I am enjoying myself.

Get two levels. Theres plenty of places to grind out some runes at your level. Kill the stormhill giants a few times.

Ya know, for me to have a talisman that renders me immune to fall damage, I sure do take a lot of fuckin fall damage.

I never used it. Does it not stop fall damage that isn't lethal? Just too many great talismans to ever bother with it. Especially since ive had like 9-10 flasks since very early on. I can't remember the last time I worried about running out of flasks. Plenty of times I didn't use one in time, lol, but never run out.

Congratulations and welcome to Elden Ringers Anonymous. We all have a problem here.

You should definitely go after margit. You're quite overpowered for Stormveil, and theres lots of good stuff and amazing exploration in the legacy dungeon that you don't get anywhere else.

I've used it and I think it depends on the duration you fall. Like at that water wheel in Raya Lucaria I jumped from the top and died.

But at that tower in Caelid there are some fall spots (I'm not sure you don't take damage otherwise) that I didn't take damage.

If you're supposed to die from falling you'll pretty much instantly die though.
