Elden Ring - Information Thread, update (02/21): Shadow of the Erdtree DLC "Collector's Edition Messmer the Impaler Statue" trailer

Fuck whatever that monster is in the bottom of stormveil castle.  Got wrecked by it the first time, and the second, I just made a mad dash to pickup everything on the floor.  I feel like the fight getting to Godrick was a whole lot harder than actually fighting him.

Alright so I gotta say I don't know how some of you guys marathon these open world epics regularly. I fucking love this game and even despite that I'm totally out of steam right now and have to put it down for a while just because of the amount I've been playing. I rarely play open world games but when I do, I tend to burn out around the 60 hour mark and never got back so far but hey, I've made it to about 110 hours here so far at least!

I really liked Witcher 3 at first, like a lot, and even there I burnt out completely at around the 60 hour mark and never went back.

Most times, I agree, but this game was different. 45 hours in HFW, I couldn't spend another second playing. 139 hours to beat this, and I started a second game on the PC version.  I would say W3 and BotW are the two open world games ive put the most time into through the last decade. Oh, and AC Valhalla got ~90 hours because there wasn't much else for ps5 launch, and I just wanted to beat it.

Eh. Game is good, yeah, but the open world is still just as boring as every other fantasy open world game. I mean, just look at Lake of Liurnia. At least half is just a flat water puddle with 5 points on interest. Caelid is 30% boss arena and 20% another flat lake but with rot. Limgrave is like the only place that surpasses that basic open world standard.

What I will give to them is the interesting verticality that blows BOTW's shitty boing and pointless climbing out of the water. That is a great accomplishment. They were able to transfer the best part of their level design to a good enough portion of the open world.

I mean, I disagree, the world is incredible, I guess its just not your thing.

also, Liurnia is full of stuff to do, I think you missed a lot.

There's multiple caves, a bunch of optional bosses and some really good items in the northwest. Also a couple of questlines and items important for questlines in other areas of the map.

Yeah, its chock full of stuff to do.

Just beat Godrick. That dude was tough. I'm about 17 hours in, level 37 going with a STR/DEX build. I'm pretty sure I cleared out everything in Limgrave.

Any recs on if I should go to Caelid (?) or Lakes next?

Honestly, go str or dex until you hit the cap. Don't put more in the secondary stat than you need to weild your weapon.

Put the extra points into vigor and endurance.

That whole area down there is incredibly creepy and has that great From feeling of danger.

I went down in the Ainsel River and boy rotten breath sure does a number on that boss.

Which one? There are a bunch down there.

Jumping needs to remain in their titles, however, jumping attacks need to be removed and instead plunging attacks should make their return as long has you meet the height requirement. The attack speed of Great and Ultra Great needs to be buffed as well as their standard attacks are slower and weaker than jumping attacks so you have every strength user playing this game like it's fucking Mario.

Disagree, jump attacks should stay. Why would you care how others play?

You should beat that monster. Theres an important blood stain down there.

Did you speak to Rogier?

Wrong opinion. And I don't care how others. I care how I play. I used heavy weapons. Jumping attacks is basically the only way I used them. That's why I want them removed.

Might as well figure out how to beat that thing... you encounter several more of them throughout the game. They're not that tough once you realize their attack patterns and when to dodge.

Zhu is a former firefighter who was severely injured in a 2013 accident while on duty, which left him paralysed from the neck down: he couldn't speak for three years following the incident, and still requires a ventilator to breathe.

Zhu can now move his head and a limited part of his torso, and has a custom mouth controller which he uses to play games: he explains how it works in this video, and it comes down to breathing into two tubes in different combinations. Obviously the game of the moment is Elden Ring, and Zhu's been regularly streaming it: he initially had some help from his mother in moving the character around, but is now able to fully control it thanks to coding the tubes' responses.

On a recent stream, Zhu whipped the ass of the final bosses and became Elden Lord. His character is a sorcery-focused build, and in the video you can see Zhu's got seriously impressive control over both the camera and movement: and absolutely melts through these bosses.

I did speak to him, is there something I should purchase from him?

I'm garbage at dodging in the game.  I always feel too late as I'm stuck in an animation when the time comes to dodge.blockquote widgetlockquote widget

Down there is a part of Rogiers quest. Find the bloodstain.

I mean, im not wrong at all. If you thought there was nothing to do in liurna, you didn't do everything. It was full of catacombs, bosses, and surprises throughout the whole area. Nothing you say changes that.

Also, I finished DS Remastered yesterday, what a tight game. It's admittedly pretty short and simple, and a bit to easy to circle and backstab, but I just didn't play like that all of the time. I at least learned enemies moveset before I trivialize them.

After that, I went to do the Shunning Grounds, because it's the only Legacy Dungeon I didn't finish during my playthrough. Its so cool to see a Legacy Dungeon "hidden" within a Legacy Dungeon. And it's a hell of a lot harder than the Royal Capital it's found in.

Ruins Greatsword is officially my favorite Collosal Sword in the game. I don't think it's the most powerful, but I absolutely love that weapon.

I also found Lionels Armor set which I missed the first time (with that whole Site of Grace), and its pretty badass. My encumbrance is high enough that I can use it without being overloaded. I use an equip load talisman, and have 45 endurance.

I'm at a points where I know the right move is to go to NG+, but I'm worried that I may have missed something good. So today im gping to go through a guide and armor/weapons list to see if im missing anything important. I also need to use the rest of the mausoleums, because they do me no good out there stomping around on their own.

Then I'll NG+, try a few bosses to see the difficulty change, and probably put down the ps5 version until there is dlc/expansion, and move on with my PC confessor build.

Also, I need to see if I missed anything that would cause a change of mind, but the Tree Sentinel armor set is the coolest armor ive found in this game. Even over the Goat armor with the horns.

Woohoo ASTEL and Glintstone down! Fuck Astel. What an annoying fight.

I think I finished Ranni’s quest so now I’ve got no one to tell me where to go next 😔 I guess Atlus Plateau maybe?

Did you go behind astel to the lift up into liurnia? Thats where you finish Ranni's quest.

Atlus Plateau is definitely a good stop if you're strong enough to beat Astel. What areas have you "completed"? That'd make it easier to tell you where to go. Have you beaten Radahn? Or Volcano Manor? Beating Volcano Manor before you get through the Royal Capital can you out of Taniths quest for the 3 bounties, if you were looking to complete all of the side stuff (because that's what I did, not realizing they wouldn't be happy I killed ol' Snake Arm).

Yeah I took the lift and did all that stuff. That was a cool moment because I’d been wondering how you access that part of the map for awhile.

I’ve beaten Radahn. I unlocked a way to get to the Capitol but I peaced out. Haven’t done Volcano Manner. I got the invite or whatever from a side quest but I haven’t actually found it yet. I found the back way into the Atlus Plateau(haven’t found the second half of the lift medallion)

You are still wrong. Where did I say liurnia had nothing to do? You clearly missed the point of that post if what you thought I was talking about was the amount of content per zone. That's why you are wrong. What you said about liurnia wasn't wrong. You read my post and misunderstood and that's why you are wrong.

I went to the Capitol after that quest, you should be ready for that. Best area in the game imo.

I’m level 87 for whatever that’s worth

I initially went to Altus at lv 65 and got my butt absolutely handed to me. So I power leveled, came back at lv 150 with a fully upgraded Moonveil and ruthlessly pillaged the area without mercy. Not a single living thing was spared!

Always loved it when that happened to me, going to an area you didn’t explore but is now under leveled for you and you just ruthlessly slaughter.

Indeed. About to head to Volcano Manor for the first time so we'll see how it goes in there.

Enemies with long attack strings will set you on the path. Like those pumpkinheads that twirl like 5 times and then slam the ground, it's like that attack never ends.

I don't mind fighting those pumpkin head guys, it's the enemies that move around crazy fast that are frustrating as I feel like I'm forever running around trying to find a window to slash them or cast magic at them.
