Drunken Master

Walks the line between classic slapstick Jackie Chan  movie and an old school "your kung-fu is weak" style film. The fights have an extremely choreographed feel to them with blocks arriving well before the punch or kick a lot of times. Not the best of early Jackie stuff and no where near as good as Drunken Master 2 or Legend of Drunken Master whatever you want to call it which is a masterpiece.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD 3D 3.5/5

it was good but not my fav of the series. The 3D disc needed to be imported and was worth it, with amazing tremendous depth but not much pop-up wise. Still a good ending to an overall great movie series

BATMAN VS THE TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 3.5/5

watched in 4K and it ain’t much improved over the bluray but it does show a slightly more solid colour palette. Guy does a pretty good Kevin Conroy Batman voice for the movie and also did an ok job for The Joker as well. Animation style is a mix of  the classic 90’s Batman skyline/building designs but with a slightly brighter colour scheme and simplistic looking character designs. I know they gotta distinguish it from other series of both shows, but it so much of that 90’s feel (and being a fan of the classic series) just wish they could of gone full throttle with it

Escape at Dannemora

Solid series. Kind of a weird performance by Del Toro at times, not quite sure what he was going for. Patricia Arquette's turn as Tilly while a great performance creates one of the least likable people to ever appear on screen, she is just the worst.

No clue what is going on with the accents, people in that part of NY do not sound like that.

The father of the woman I am dating was actually the administrator(warden) of the facility back in the 90s so I would love to get his opinion on it all.

Late Night: 2/5

A comedy about a comedy show that has plenty of heart, but not so much actual comedy. Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson are both quite good, but never particularly funny in a film that is ostensibly about comedy. The film also tackles a number of issues about race, gender, representation, sexual misconduct, public forgiveness, the burdens of genius and power, the right to employment, privilege and more. However, in just over 100 minutes, it doesn't really find the time to say anything meaningful about any of them, and in treating characters as a series of issues to address, it erects barriers instead of connections between characters.

Rocketman: 4/5

A musical biopic that doesn't follow the Walk Hard formulation, instead choosing the extremely fun, and rather fitting, path of fantasy and whimsy. While the film does go all the way back to young Elton first learning the piano, it doesn't feel any particularly need for strict continuity. Songs from Elton's enormous discography play when thematically or energetically appropriate, regardless of when they were written or released. Flashbacks turn into full on dance and musical numbers, even as the film delves into addiction to sex and drugs. You're unlikely to learn much about Elton John from Rocketman, but it's still an exciting excursion through his life and music, which makes it a perfectly fitting biopic for a man of such exuberance.

Fun fact: director Dexter Fletcher, who brought us Rocketman, was the person hired to bring Bohemian Rhapsody during reshoots at the end after the Bryan Singer debacle.

Spider-man- 3.5/5

spider-man 2 - 4.5/5

Spider-man 3 - 2/5

the amazing Spider-Man - 4/5

the amazing spider-man 2 - 2.5/5

Amazing Spider-Man 2 is so much better than Amazing Spider-Man 1, IMHO, for one reason - the characterization of Peter/Spider-Man.  It's just all wrong in the first one, but they move to a better characterization in the second.  I would personally flip those scores.

No way. The story in TAM2 is a fucking mess. Electro should have been the only villain. I thought it was a fun movie but that’s about it.

I'd rather a slightly messy story than a Spider-man that is driven by revenge for his Uncle's death, rather than learning that with great power comes great responsibility.

Idk, I don’t give a shit about comic Spidey because I don’t read them. I think it’s reasonable for somebody with his powers to be driven by revenge, which he works past.

Reasonable, sure, but it fundamentally changes the character in ways that I really do not care for, as a life-long Spider-Man fan.  It's like if they did a Batman origin story and he becomes Batman because he's a thrill-seeker who realized he loved violence after watching his parents being gunned down.

Doom Patrol - Season 1

Show definitely had a mission statement to be a deconstructive, 4th wall breaking, weird superhero show and it pulls it off with various degrees of success. It is at its best when it going completely batshit. Runs a few episodes too long and Cyborg doesn't fit with the rest of the group. Brendan Fraser clearly was having a great time with his role.

They Live 4k

Steel Case looks real good, normally I dont really give a shit about cases but this one is a home run for me.

Image Quality

The jump to 4k gives some finer details over the 1080p releases from Shout! .The use of HDR is fantastic and not over used, stronger colors and better blacks with out over saturation .

Sound Quality

Just like the other Carpenter 4k releases , the film has a 5.1 DTS-HD and a 2.0 . An atmos track would have been killer but the 5.1 does the job.

I had to import this from the UK. Cost was about $ 45. The price can be a real deal breaker for some but if your fan of the film i recommend it.

Black Summer 4/5:

@skillzdadirectarecommended this show to me as I hadn’t previously heard of it. Really good take on a zombie apocalypse story. Feels a lot more grounded and “real” than the melodrama of TWD. I loved the first few episodes and the way it overlapped he multiple stories of the characters. Once they all came together it lost me just a little bit. It was still good but everything started to move at an extremely accelerated rate and the dialogue(which I was really enjoying) basically disappears in the last few episodes. It kind of reminds

me how 28 Days Later feels like two very different movies. Only the latter story in this isn’t a stupid mess lol.

Overall really good show thats shot AMAZINGLY well. Look forward to season 2.

I've somehow managed to avoid watching The Office (US) and just recently started watching it here and there while preparing dinner or something along those lines. I actually really like it by now and it's pretty damn funny. I just started season 3 and it feels like it's definitely becoming more outlandish, which I like a lot.

So far: 9/10

Aquaman 4/5

Super late to the party but I really really liked it. Obviously it’s gorgeous and on my 4K TV my head almost exploded. But it was just a really fun, solid movie. The plot felt like half super hero movie and half adventure film like National Treasure. I’ll have to watch it again but as of right now this is one of my favorite super hero movies. Just an awesome, fun, beautiful ride.

Man that's harsh for such an inventive, energetic film. I'd give it a 4 or 4.5/5 but I love the movie and its director Jee-woon Kim is so good.

Westerns are one of my least favorite genres so this is a good score for it :P I only watched it because my friend wanted to

Fair but a South Korean or "kimchi" western (as Jee-woon Kim calls it) isn't a typical western by any means, and the action, etc. is all so good. But I hear ya. :)
