For fans of the show:

Are season 7, 8 or 9 any better than 6? I really didn't enjoy this one and thought most of it fell flat and don't want to invest more time if it's just going to continue floundering around.

I've watched the entire series twice, the last time a couple months ago and while I enjoyed a lot of the later seasons, they're definitely weaker and I get the criticism. If you didn't enjoy season 6, you'll be fine stopping there.

THE BOYS :star::star::star::star::halfstar:

I really enjoyed this show and happy to know that Amazon already gave it a 2nd season. Everyone looked like they were loving what they got to do. Probably also introduced me to a knew favourite tv character ever for a show and that guy is Homelander. I won’t say anything more cause you’re going to enjoy the ride he brings you on. Plus it’s a superhero show that isn’t afraid to swear, show some nudity and deal with superpower rape. Yeah it’s pretty messed up but it’s a fun as hell ride too. I wonder if they will be filming anything next week in Toronto at our FanExpo (our Comic Con) as some of the cast from The Umbrella Academy will be there signing as well

I actually ended up watching about three episodes of season 7 randomly and it was dreadful. Officially done!

I'm curious to see the actual ending ending, at what episode of season 9 should I jump in you think?

Eh, just watch the last couple episodes. You'll see endings for just about every character, though you'll have missed a lot that got them there.

If it's characters whose developments I never asked for, it certainly was The Office's cast so I'm cool!

INVADER ZIM: ENTER THE FLORPUS 4.5/5

Please let this be the start of a revival of the series. Oh how I miss this show and I’m glad to say they haven’t missed a beat since it was canceled all them years ago. No rubber piggies but plenty of mini moose and a new donkey friend for Gir. It is still super over the top stupid, but I wouldn’t want anything else. I will admit I was laughing my ass off at a few scenes and that I was high watching it too. I can’t wait to watch this again and is a quick 70 minutes on Netflix. Oh and Netflix, renew this series

Mindhunter season 2 - 10/10

God, this show is so good. I really can't offer any serious criticism of it. It's creepy as hell without actually showing much.

I watched the first two episodes last night

Spoiler

That scene in the pickup truck with Tench and the local cop talking to the kid who took the shots to the face was incredibly well directed. I realized by the end I was at the edge of my seat just listening to them talk and seeing those fleeting glimpses of his face.

Fear the Walking Dead (Season 5 episodes)- Have DVR’d this season and just started watching.  I’m merely “hate watching “ now.  The show peaked with Season 3 and the soft reboot that happened in Season 4 did this show no favors.

I REALLY wish they'd ditch the whole thing with that chick and her fucking video cameras.

The Farewell: 10/10

Probably my favorite movie of the year.  Fuck Crazy Rich Asians, this movie actually captures the cultural differences between America and Asia (China) and does so in a humorous and moving way.  Awkwafina and Zhao Shuzhen put in amazing performances that are worthy of nominations.

I'm on agreement with this.  This movie felt more relatable than the socialite exaggeration of Crazy Rich Asians (although with some brief accuracy with how judgmental "Chinese" were).  A lot of the issues with East vs West ideology, being excluded, patronized, "greater good", and of course the relatable cringe of Chinese family/social gatherings; it all was accurate.

I'd give it a 9/10.  This legitimately surprised me.

the show is agonizingly stupid and the episodes pointless. Honestly I am watching now just to see how freaking stupid show can get. As a writer, this past weeks episode made me want to jump out of a window. Is anyone even reading the scripts? Do they have monkeys banging away on keyboards to come up with this shit?

As an updated, I've been keeping Season 8 on randomly in the background while cooking etc. and it's actually impressively unfunny, depressing and overall just terrible. I'm just hate-watching in disbelief a few minutes here and there and then resume my tasks in the evenings sometimes.

Andy being the manager and that California dude...just so, so, so bad.

SKYSCRAPER 4K 2/5

a lighthearted PG-13 Die Hard that does nothing to hide who the bad guys are and/or who might be playing for the bad guys instead. The 4K disc though is a close to demo worthy picture wise but definitely a demo disc for anyone with an Atmos setup. From flames surrounding you, P.A./sprinkler system activating, and helicopters buzzing around covering the events unfolding. So it might be worth a rental for that alone, but it’s also available on the Blu-Ray disc too. If no Atmos, skip the movie

SHAZAM! 3D 3/5

I remember liking it a bit more when I saw it in theatres. It’s still a good movie but the pacing seemed a little slower this go around when watching with my family. The 3D I didn’t think was bad with plenty of good depth but don’t expect any pop outs. Again the 3D disc is relegated to a 5.1 DTS-HDMA track by Warner Bros and not the Atmos track like on the 2D/UHD discs. Still when played with Neural X it added a richer and fuller sound field to the action on screen. Plus the subwoofer gets a nice workout with various battles but especially when the voices of deadly sins decide to speak. Reminded me of when Neo is making his deal with the machines and the huge baby like face asks him to speak in the deep baritone sub vibrating voice. Still one of the better DC movies they have put out lately

Lion King 2019

Finally got around to seeing this. They sacrificed all the magic and soul of the original movie at the alter of "realism", terrible creative decision from the start. Also a lot of the songs by the male performers seemed to have a spoken word quality that was odd. The plot and everything else is fine because it is Lion King.

5/10

THE DARK CRYSTAL 4K 3.5/5

I vaguely remember bits and pieces of the movie from when I saw it as a little kid, but apparently not much. Pretty dark and scary for a kids like movie but entertaining nevertheless. I bought the 4K version and looked overall looks pretty good for its age. Has a very filmic look to it and not a washed out grain free “remastered” look that some older movies get. Plus they did some cool emmersive overhead sounds for the newly included Atmos Track. Not a standout track but enough to surprise me for the age and limitations of the original movie track. Have a vacation week coming up and hopefully I can jump in and binge watch the new Netflix series after my brothers wedding

John Wick 3

The world building in the first movie was just interesting enough to make you wonder more about what is going on in the world of Wick but the more they show in subsequent movies the less sense it makes, who the fuck are these 1000s of assassins killing all day long when they aren't fruitless trying to kill Wick? Is the entire global economy built around murder, seems like it would burn out pretty quick.

The action while stylish and cool got repetitive and some of the fight scenes especially the Halle Berry one went on for way to long to point where they actually lost all sense of danger and it was just an endless series of throws and headshots.

5.5/10

This is quite the hot take. I thought the third was arguably the best one yet. Looking for real world logic is silly in the Wick films, which have built their own universe and rules - think about it, where are all the cops/military/government in these movies? Why do civilians often not react to what's happening around them?

It's all intentionally part of it.

Has anyone here seen Let Me In by the way? That American version of Let The Right One In?

I've read the book and seen the Swedish film, always been curious if this is worth my time.

It's pretty good. Matt Reeves is an excellent director and he did a really good remake. Is it better? I don't think so, but it's pretty good.
