Commissar SFLUFAN
During today's hearing between MSFT and the FTC, Phil just testified that The Elder Scrolls VI is "five-plus years" from release. So, looks like it'll be on the Xbox Series X2
Xbob42
I figured as much. I bet it's in early pre-production at best, and probably isn't even that far.

Xbob42
I wonder how many meetings they've had on whether to call it Skyrim 2 or not. Skyrim has been so much more massively popular than anything they've made before or since.

Honestly I feel like it’s aaaalmost a stretch to say it’s been announced, its “trailer” felt more like, “nobody was asking us for Starfield but that’s what we’re here to talk about; please don’t ask about ES6 we’ll get to it eventually.”
Paperclyp
I thought it would release this gen. It almost certainly will I bet it’ll just be the shittier version.

Best
I'd rather have it come out on the next Xbox anyway. It will be mind blowing. 🤯

They’ve haven’t released flagship games that close to one another since Oblivion to Fallout 3 and they’ve only slowed since then. They had gotten close with stuff like Fallout 4 to Fallout 76 but I dunno that’s a model to emulate.

Even with the length of development now, 10 years is a long ass time. Brian
I get supporting ESO. It seems to have a healthy subscription base that pays a monthly fee. I don’t get how Fallout 76 is still a thing getting resources. Move those people to Fallout 5 or Elder Scrolls.

I feel like I’ve seen some bigger names in the gaming press and some devs talk about how a ten year cycle is becoming more common for AAA development but apparently none of them made it to my bookmarks so perhaps I made up the whole thing. Fizzzzle
IIRC most of Fallout 76's development was outsourced, they just re-used a lot of assets made for Fallout 4. Fallout 4 came out almost 8 years ago. It begs the question - "what the fuck have you guys been doing for 8 fucking years?" If the answer was "building a new engine to make games with so that we can crank them out faster," then sure, I'd buy that. But we know they weren't doing that. Starfield still uses a form of the same engine they've been using to make games for the last 20 years (that in itself isn't a big deal - Red Dead Redemption 2 was made with the same engine as GTAIV, which didn't go into development that much later than Oblivion)

WTF was the point of making this "online?" As it is, it's just a shittier Skyrim with some coop for the most mundane parts.
Paperclyp
I played like 60-70 hours of ESO near the beginning of the pandemic, and it absolutely feels like a single player game. And honestly, not half bad. It does play like a over the shoulder Diablo knock off, but the stories were interesting enough that I actually quite enjoyed it. Part of it was just being in familiar environments with a fresh coat of paint, but there's nothing so wrong with that. Actually, I tried to do a few dungeons and at that time at least the game was so broken for multiplayer content that you couldn't reliably (in fact I never got it to work) match make into like simple dungeons. Keyser_Soze
The Elder Scrolls 6 will skip PS5 and isn’t coming until at least 2026 - The Verge WWW.THEVERGE.COM Not exactly surprising.
Mr.Vic20
At this point, I honestly wasn't. When company's toss around time windows like "5 years" you know they probably don't know what year the game will ship either.
Spork3245
I feel like we’ll still be on this gen until 2027 because of the pandemic slowing the first 2 years of game releases
