Is Armored Core this year? What about Dragon Age 4?

Assassin's Creed missed in here. Dead Space remake. Spiderman 2. By December 31st, my birthday, it most likely will be the best year in gaming ever. I'm not putting on my 2007 shades pretending that was better.

If Starfield lives up to the hype, then yes, best year ever.

I'm ready for Sonic Origins Plus and am curious how FFXVI ends up being!

Had no time to jump into Diablo IV or SF6, and Octopath Traveler II is on my list of things to buy later.

Spider-Man 2 looks fan-fucking-tastic.

And the amazing thing is once the year is over... FFVII Rebirth and Apollo Justice Trilogy. :sun:

A few other notables slated the rest of this year not mentioned yet.

Pikmin 4

Sea of Stars

Sonic Superstars

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

Lords of the Fallen

Remnant II

Alone in the Dark

Forza Motorsport

Atlas Fallen

Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name

Ghostrunner II

And a plethora of games with softer 2023 release dates.  Silksong.  Hyper Light Breaker.  Mina the Hollower.  Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn.  The Talos Principle 2.  Pacific Drive.  Stalker 2.  The Plucky Squire.  And so on.

Like 2007, or 2023? A lot of really great games coing out this year that I can see game of the year being a bit of a struggle. Also a lot of solid "second tier" games too... what do you guys think?

LOL I was planning on making this thread tonight  Yes this will go down as one of the greatest years in gaming if not THE year. I've barely seen any talk of indies in here but Blasphemous 2, Dredge, Silksong (if it makes it), Mina (also if it makes it) and Gestalt should all be big hits.

tbh, 2020 is probably one of the best years in recent memory and I think deserves to be talked about in that light.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Astro's Playroom

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time

Demon's Souls Remake

DOOM Eternal

Dreams

Fall Guys

Final Fantasy 7 Remake

Ghost of Tsushima

Hades

Half-Life: Alyx
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Microsoft Flight Simulator

Nioh 2

Paper Beast VR

Persona 5 Royal
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2

Resident Evil 3 Remake

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Spelunky 2
Street Fighter V: Champion Edition

Streets of Rage 4
Super Mario 3D All-Stars

The Last of Us Part 2

Two-Point Hospital

Yakuza: Like A Dragon

This is excluding a lot, but... it's a lot. And considering the shitty year that was, we needed this.

GoTY is definitely going to Zelda unless Starfield or FF16 pulls a crazy upset. No game this year will match it in player expression and freedom.

I could see some outlets running with SF6 or one of those two regardless, but it won’t be the norm.

I think Zelda will run away with the bulk of the awards. I wouldn’t sleep on Baldur’s Gate 3 though if Larian pulls it off. Could certainly swing several outlets and like you said SF6 will be a hip pick.

There will be a Zelda backlash - the narrative is sitting there if they wanna use it (dated hardware, been there done that, etc).

I don't see the narrative shifting that way any more than it is now.  If anything, all the crazy contraptions people will keep building should make a case for its resiliency.

I don’t wanna sound like I think it’ll be like a significant thing that shifts publications from largely giving that game GOTY. It’ll be like 90 percent of places giving Zelda the award. I just think there’ll be a few persnickety pieces about how there are actually better games than Zelda this year (not saying I personally agree or disagree).

I’m not sure the ongoing creations will influence things more than just keeping that game in the limelight a little longer than otherwise would be the case (which isn’t nothin). Hell there are still BOTW vids coming out that are pretty cool. The average player is gonna look at that and be like wow that’s really cool, but if they’re anything like me they’re gonna be like welp let’s hop in my car / airplane that works about 1/4 as well as I’d hoped.

Time will tell if it lives up to being one of the best, but certainly for my tastes it has been better than any year since probably 2017 (another all-time great).  With RE4, Zelda, Hi-Fi Rush, Alan Wake 2, and Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, I have/will purchase more new games in a single year that I have in maybe the last 10.
