I’m waiting 6 weeks for it to be $25-35, as-is the discount timeframe for all Ubisoft games :p

Yea and I didn't realize it's sitting at a 76 on opencritic. Definitely not in a rush to play this because I honestly don't like stealth in games.

I feel like AC games are barely stealth and you can just use stealth to get the drop on an enemies before being a wrecking ball. (Not counting occasional forced stealth auto-fail if you’re spotted sections)
I haven’t watched a review yet so maybe they’re forcing this to be more stealthy?

I haven’t gotten to Cyberpunk or Starfield yet, plus I still want to get MK1 and should probably finish Jedi Survivor at some point :p

Cinelinx - Caleb Gayle - 5 / 5

Assassin’s Creed Mirage takes the franchise back to its roots in a number of ways that should delight long-time fans, while still appealing to newcomers.

GameGrin - Anna Duncan - 10 / 10

Nice to see another Assassin's Creed game to explain yet another exciting story on another character, well done Ubisoft.

GameHaunt - Andrei Cortez - 4.5 / 5

Assassin's Creed Mirage takes us back to the "glory days" of Assassin's Creed.

Gameffine - Uphar Dutta - 90 / 100

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the best revisit to the nostalgic experience and truly pivots to be the OG Assassin’s Creed game. With the city of Baghdad being highly detailed and dense, the game will often keep you hooked on how magical the city looks and feels. The combat is light but makes you prefer stealth since each area is well-designed, allowing multiple approaches and infiltration opportunities. The game’s story may not be the most memorable, especially with the shorter length, but the closure leaves more options for future content.

Gamers Heroes - Blaine Smith - 90 / 100

Mirage is the Assassin’s Creed many have been waiting for. It pays homage to its roots, bringing with it the challenge and satisfaction of a well-planned and executed stealth assault. It effortlessly blends together the old-school approach with updated design philosophies, a deeper and more immersive game world, and a story that enthralls from start to finish.

Hey Poor Player - Shane Boyle - 4.5 / 5

If Ubisoft’s mission with Assassins Creed Mirage was clearly to create something that paid tribute to the series’ roots while acting as an entry point for new fans, and perhaps a re-entry point for lapsed ones, then that mission has been well and truly accomplished. The razor-sharp focus on throwback stealth gameplay, stripping back of RPG systems, and de-emphasizing of melee combat all come together to create the most focused entry in years. Melee combat may feel awful, and the wilderness regions woefully underutilized, but when the streets of Baghdad itself are as joyous to explore as they are, and the stealth combat represents not just a return to form, but a series high, it’s hard to see those flaws as anything other than minor blemishes. I have no doubt that the future of Assassins Creed largely lies in more sprawling RPGs, but Assassins Creed Mirage shows that the classic formula still holds value, so here’s hoping Ubisoft sees a world in which the new can exist with the old.

PlayStation Universe - Michael Harradence - 9 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a fantastic return to form for the long-running franchise, and by leveraging the very best of the series' offerings and doubling down on the original game's design philosophy, Ubisoft has created the most authentic Assassin's Creed game in a decade.

Sirus Gaming - Leif Rey Bornales - 9 / 10

Overall, Assassin's Creed: Mirage truly delivered an assassin simulator game that we all loved from the beginning. It is surprisingly a fast-paced game for a game that is known for its stealthy waiting. A game that is genuinely worth its price, a game that I will indeed be playing 'til I platinum it.

The Beta Network - Samuel Incze - 9 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is absolutely phenomenal! The story does start out a little slow, but once it picks up, it becomes one of the more interesting narratives in the franchise. Ditching the cumbersome RPG stylings of Valhalla, Odyssey & Origins, Mirage will finally make you feel like an Assassin again! The map may not be as large as some of the earlier entries in the series, however, this only serves as a benefit as you won’t be traversing through a mass of unused space just to get to your next objective. Overall, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the title that many AC fans have been waiting for, and serves, to some degree, as a bit of a nostalgia trip as well.

The Nerd Stash - Julio La Pine - 9 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is the game that returns to franchise to its glory days.

Xbox Achievements - Richard Walker - 90%

In paring things back and zoning in on what really makes Assassin's Creed special, Mirage emerges as one of the most pure and enjoyable entries in the series for a while. Basim's origin story is certainly one well worth delving into.

Generación Xbox - Spanish - 8.9 / 10

Ubisoft returns with Assassin's Creed Mirage, a title that perfectly mixes the classic formula of the saga with the advances and innovations of the latest titles and that achieves a gameplay very focused on stealth.

Hobby Consolas - Daniel Quesada - Spanish - 87 / 100

It's not the biggest or most spectacular game in the series, but it doesn't pretend to be either. If you want nostalgia for past times with a technical invoice of present times, here you can enjoy in a big way without having to connect to the Animus.

COGconnected - Jaz Sagoo - 86 / 100

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a return to form. While the RPG titles offered a huge world, there’s something about the smaller, tight-knit areas that lend themselves to the life of an assassin. The smaller scope and focus on stealth are refreshing which makes the moment-to-moment gameplay a blast. Combat is diverse allowing you to adapt to whatever situation you find yourself in and missions give you the freedom to find your own route to the objective. Aspects from the history of the franchise combine in Mirage to make this the best release the series has offered in years.

Areajugones - Nazaret López - Spanish - 8.5 / 10

This installment is not only made for those who are staunch fans of the saga, but also for other new players who are arriving. Which means that you will not need to complete any of the past deliveries, to be able to enjoy this.

Atomix - Aldo López - Spanish - 85 / 100

If you are thirsty for an Assassin's Creed with a classic touch, it is evident that Mirage will fulfill what you are looking for, and now it is expected that Ubisoft will want to continue returning to the path lost some time ago.

GamingTrend - Henry Viola - 85 / 100

Assassin's Creed Mirage underscores Ubisoft's commitment to bring the series back to its roots, making it a compelling choice for those who are long time fans. Despite not revolutionizing the franchise, it still expertly transports players to an intricately designed Baghdad, and presents a captivating narrative through the lens of one of the most beloved assassins in the series.

Geeks & Com - Marc-Antoine Bergeron Cote - French - 8.5 / 10

For me, Assassin's Creed Mirage is the return to basics that many gamers have been hoping for. Infiltration makes a major comeback, without making the gameplay too rigid. The city of Baghdad is particularly dense and representative of the period. Even if the experience doesn't reinvent anything, it's pleasant to have a narrative put forward and a logical lifespan for this kind of game. While there are still a few technical problems, particularly with collisions, and there are few new features, the overall experience is fun. Now Ubisoft will have to roll up its sleeves for the next generation of this iconic franchise. A return to basics works for this time, and we mustn't repeat the mistakes of the past.

NoobFeed - Azfar Rayan - 85 / 100

Assassin's Creed Mirage strikes the ideal balance between nostalgia and innovation. It is a mix of its root formula of the original games and the glimpses at the upcoming releases. The heightened importance of stealth will inspire you to become more immersed in your surroundings. At the same time, the reduced number of equipment possibilities and the game's decreased length will guarantee that Basim does not outstay his welcome. Hopefully, Ubisoft will appreciate Mirage's distinct approach while simultaneously working on numerous Assassin's Creed projects.

Oyungezer Online - Gülhis Canpolat - Turkish - 8.5 / 10

I lowered the score a little bit because it was separated from the modern story, a little bit because the track was not as smooth as I wanted to be. But I really cried in this game, friends. I cried because I really missed being the assassin in Assassin's Creed games.

PSX Brasil - Thiago de Alencar Moura - Portuguese - 85 / 100

Assassin's Creed Mirage is an excellent homage to the past and a well-realized title in its own right.

Post Arcade (National Post) - Chad Sapieha - 8.5 / 10

Ubisoft takes a less-is-more approach in its latest historical adventure, and it helps the game's educational elements shine. Read more.

SECTOR.sk - Peter Dragula - Slovak - 8.5 / 10

In Mirage, Assassin's Creed embarks on an exhilarating journey back to its origins, immersing players in the enigmatic world of Basim, the Baghdad Sleuth. Mirage presents a blend of stealth-focused gameplay within a more intimate urban landscape, where players unravel intriguing mysteries in a city shrouded in secrets.

Seasoned Gaming - Steve Esposito - 8.5 / 10

This is one of the few games that makes me realize that I don’t need over the top graphics or an Excel sheet’s worth of mechanics to experience something fun. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the experience I've wanted for the last six years.

Stevivor - Ben Salter - 8.5 / 10

If you’re old enough to know who Desmond Miles is, and have a desire to return to the series’ origins, Assassin’s Creed Mirage hits the spot. It reins in the endless expansion and has very clear direction.

TechRaptor - Andrew Stretch - 8.5 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is tight experience delivering a great example of non-linear gameplay, and a fantastic return to form. Unfortunately Basim's outing also emulated the technical difficulties we've come to expect from Assassin's Creed titles.

WayTooManyGames - Thomas Medina - 8.5 / 10

The joy of abusing enemy AI through the use of social stealth and corners. An open-world city to explore and parkour through, pickpocketing everyone. And the sandbox black box missions are fantastic, a culmination of the franchise at its best. Sure, overall the formula for the game is a collection of Ubisoft classics. But isn’t that what we’re here for at this point? Exploring a city, solving small puzzles, collecting stuff, and going stabby stabby while looking cool doing it. This is an Assassin’s Creed game, unapologetically, and it’s much better for it in my opinion.

Geek Culture - Jake Su - 8.4 / 10

Ultimately, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a game that comes with the question of balance. By shining the spotlight on stealth, the game should deservedly get plaudits for the foundational refinements made to the formula. But at the same time, removing much of the bloat also means closer scrutiny of everything that’s left. Depending on your preference, this could be the soft reboot of the established recipe that many have yearned for or a step backwards, albeit one that comes with many quality-of-life tweaks. But, it represents a choice, and it is one that we are glad that Ubisoft Bordeaux has taken in giving players the flexibility to enjoy the franchise in its modern guise through a lens of the past.

Impulsegamer - Gareth Newnham - 4.2 / 5

Assassin's Creed Mirage is the game that old school fans of the series have been waiting for. By taking the action back to its roots, Ubisoft has crafted one of the most exciting entries in the long running stealth series for the best part of a decade.

The Games Machine - Daniele Dolce - Italian - 8.3 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is not a remake of the first chapter of the series in disguise, as some might think, however the stated intention to pay homage to the origins of the series has been fully respected. With all that goes with it, for better or for worse. The more compact and not at all dispersive experience benefits not only the pace of play, but also that of the narration, which always manages to be focused on the figure of Basim. Unfortunately, many of the historical defects of the series remain, first of all the poor artificial intelligence of the enemies, while the structure of the main missions is all in all of a good level, with some small exceptions. A successful operation, however, the one carried out by Ubisoft Bordeaux.

GamePro - Annika Bavendiek - German - 82 / 100

Mirage successfully returns to the roots of the Assassin's Creed series, but also stumbles a bit over those roots.

Gamersky - Chinese - 8.2 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage simplifies the complex systems of the mythological trilogy and returns to the solemn, dignified atmosphere of AC1. If you miss the Assassin's Creed before the mythological trilogy, Mirage is a must-play. It will rekindle the sense of wonder and emotion that the series used to provide.

Marooners' Rock - Matt Kowalski - 8.2 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage utilizes all the improvements and mechanics that the Assassin's Creed franchise has established and worked to improve on over the last 15 years.

XboxEra - Jesse Norris - 8.2 / 10

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage is a solid entry in the release-filled series.  Featuring a far shorter campaign than previous titles it sacrifices “value in hours” for “valuable hours”.  Mirage is a tight package that any Assassin’s Creed fan, new or old, will enjoy.

BaziCenter - جواد محسنی - Persian - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage takes the series back to where it all began, and while it feels great to take a break from more and more complex RPG gameplay that we've seen in the past few entries, it is not necessarily a step forward for the series as the game becomes too boring too fast. Mirage is still a great action adventure, but maybe a balance between Role Playing gameplay and linear story telling would be what this series need to find its path again.

But Why Tho? - Jason Flatt - 8 / 10

There are some kinks in Assassin’s Creed Mirage that hold it back from perfection, but without a doubt, it is the sharpest, most succinct entry in the franchise yet. With the best elements brought together throughout the series’ many games, Mirage stands out as at once completely classic and fully modern.

CGMagazine - Justin Wood - 8 / 10

Overall, Assassin's Creed Mirage is a great return to form for the series, the gameplay is less bloated and more focused on the minute to minute fun.

Checkpoint Gaming - Edie W-K - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage might be a smaller experience than the mammoths that have preceded it, but that doesn't make it lesser. Clocking in at a decent 20-30 hours of streamlined gameplay and story, it's a great return to form to the stealth-focused days of Altair and Ezio. While the main missions could have used more variety, it's encouraging to see that Ubisoft hasn't forgotten the franchise's roots.

Cultured Vultures - Jimmy Donnellan - 8 / 10

Rough combat and simply serviceable story aside, Assassin's Creed Mirage trims the fat while also adding plenty of promise for future entries in the series.

Dexerto - Jessica Filby - 4 / 5

Despite the lackluster combat, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a brilliant homage to those that came before, highlighting just what makes the franchise so popular. With any luck, Mirage will set a precedent for future releases, incorporating the best aspects from Assassin tales old, and new. It’s not perfect, but Assassin’s Creed Mirage is about as close as the franchise has gotten for years, hopefully highlighting a new age for the Hidden Ones’ future.

Easy Allies - Michael Huber - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a strong return to the original identity of the series, with greater focus on stealth and a more manageable length, but Ubisoft continues to spin its wheels with where all of this is going.

Eurogamer - Christian Donlan - 4 / 5

Golden Age Baghdad, along with a return to a more focused, stealth-based design, makes for a rich and characterful adventure.

Evilgamerz - Daan Nijboer - Dutch - 8 / 10

Is Mirage worth it? Of course. Although it is again a typical Assassin's Creed and clearly an oversized DLC from Valhalla, it is a relief to really have to sneak around with Basim again. This is what made the series so popular and Mirage shows that it is still a lot of fun. With about 30 hours of gameplay, the game is a lot more manageable than the gigantic previous parts, but certainly no less. Moreover, you only pay €45 for Mirage instead of the full €70, for which we have to compliment the developer. The game starts off quite weak with an introduction that is far too long, but once you get past that you can really get on with it. Assassins's Creed Mirage is an excellent "snack" where stealth is back and you don't have to spend 150 hours to see everything. More is not always better, and that proof is provided here.

GAMES.CH - Benjamin Braun - German - 80%

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a nostalgic trip to the past, dressed into a modern graphic robe. It combines a more lineare action-adventure approach while providing a lot more freedom than in its role models like Assassin's Creed II. This way, Mirage is made for long-term fans of the series. But because of some inauthentic gameplay mechanics in combat and stealth, it cannot fulfill the highest expectations.

Game Informer - Matt Miller - 8 / 10

Concerns about the conclusion aside, I still had a wonderful time in Baghdad’s ancient alleys and palaces. Not everything is perfect, but the “less is more” design philosophy goes a long way to making this one of the most consistently engaging titles within the series for some time.

Game Rant - Joshua Duckworth - 4 / 5

Despite a few shortcomings, Assassin's Creed Mirage completes its mission of being a love letter to the earliest days of the franchise.

GameSpew - Richard Seagrave - 8 / 10

If you’re a long-time Assassin’s Creed fan that fondly remembers the early entries of the series, you’re likely to love Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Those who have found the last trio of entries simply too big will appreciate its sharper focus, too. While it does little to propel the series forward mechanically, it’s a return to what made it stand out in the first place: an open world stealth game where hiding in plain sight and making use of your parkour skills is key. Factor in the brilliant setting and some challenging assassination scenarios, and you have a game that pays homage to the series’ roots while successfully standing on its own two feet.

GamesHub - Edmond Tran - 4 / 5

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a great stealth fantasy game, with a fantastic setting you want to just simmer in, and a pace that gently but consistently pulls you through interesting missions you find yourself eager to tackle. Its focused scope gives you the breathing room to invest more interest and care in the makeup and history of the world, along with the plights of its characters, and leaves you feeling content with the time you spent in it. This is how all Assassin’s Creed games should be.

GamesRadar+ - Sam Loveridge - 4 / 5

Ubisoft Bordeaux has delivered exactly what it promised. Assassin's Creed Mirage is a compact, stealth-focused adventure that punishes anyone trying to go in loud, and it does so in a world that's always a delight to explore (and be chased through).

Gaming Instincts - Devin Rardin - 8 / 10

If you are an Assassin’s Creed purest, then Mirage is not exactly what you are looking for. It doesn’t bring back Assassin’s Creed of yore but modernizes several of the mechanics we came to love. Unfortunately, they are hindered by a design that simply wasn’t meant for the system it evoked. Still, for those looking for a smaller Assassin’s Creed game with a focus on assassins, Mirage gets the job done. Assassin’s Creed Mirage receives a final verdict of 8.0 out of 10.

Gaming Nexus - Jason Dailey - 8 / 10

Mirage is the ultimate Assassin's Creed comfort food for those who've been longing for a return to the classic stealth formula. It's not going to blow you away, but it's well done, and the nostalgia you'll feel playing it will remind you of why you enjoy the series in the first place. Ultimately, Basim and Baghdad coalesce to create a tantalizing vision of what the future of Assassin's Creed could be – a reincarnation of what it once was.

GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage looks to the franchise's past, and delivers a strong, focused entry that is exactly what it says on the tin, nothing more and nothing less.

Glitched Africa - Marco Cocomello - 8 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage successfully takes players back to the earlier days of the series but that also means it comes with all the good and the bad. The game in no way reinvents the wheel and in fact, is a bit dated to that degree but it captures the magic that made the series so great in the first place.

Guardian - Julian Benson - 4 / 5

Set in ninth-century Baghdad, this latest iteration of the murderous mega-series has cleared out recent bloated extras, leaving you with just a sword and dagger

Hardcore Gamer - Chris Shive - 4 / 5

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a triumphant return to the style of the original Assassin's Creed games.

IGN - Jarrett Green - 8 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage's back-to-basics approach is a successful first step in returning to the stealthy style that launched this series.

IGN Spain - Mario Seijas - Spanish - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a triumphant return to the roots of the series. Basim invites us to be stealthy and think carefully, calculating every step in a Baghdad full of details and places to explore. It is a different installment to what we are used to with the most recent releases, but both newcomers and veterans of the saga should give it a try.

MondoXbox - Matteo Merlano - Italian - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage represents a welcome throwback for the series to a dynamic and fascinating urban setting, providing a good amount of content and a welcome new focus on stealth components. What it lacks is a splash in graphical quality and greater depth at the narrative level (including the modern sections, which are completely absent here). The road taken, or rather retaken, is a good one, however, and we hope Ubisoft has further titles in development in this vein.

Multiplayer First - Paulmichael Contreras - 8 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a great return to form for a series that had sort of lost its way. A concise, single-player campaign with a story that has its share of twists and turns, a sprawling desert and surrounding wilds to play in, and even a new ability helps to return Assassin’s Creed to its roots while adding to the core feature set in a meaningful way. Fans, new and old, will want to check out Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

PC Invasion - Raza Malik - 8 / 10

A callback to what made Assassin's Creed a hit for many over the years. While the main character and the movement fall somewhat short, the world and reintroduction of classic mechanics make up for that in a big way.

PCGamesN - Nat Smith - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage delivers a renewed focus that trims the fat from its predecessors to commemorate the very best bits of the series, but familiar parkour problems and anemic combat hold it back from true greatness.

Pixel Arts - Danial Dehghani - Persian - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a heartfelt tribute to devoted fans of the franchise, capturing the essence of its earlier iterations that have kept the series alive. While it incorporates elements from recent releases, it places a more prominent emphasis on parkour and stealth, delivering a distinct and captivating experience. Despite encountering occasional nuisances that prevent us from hailing Mirage as the pinnacle of the Assassin's Creed series in recent memory, there's no denying that the unforgettable journey it offers is well worth embarking on. Follow Bassem, a humble thief turned assassin, as you witness his transformation into a true master assassin.

Press Start - James Mitchell - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage makes great effort to simplify the Assassin's Creed formula back to what it was when it first found popularity. The solid stealth mechanics lend themselves well to creating satisfying infiltrations and the open-ended assassinations are some of the series most engaging contracts. It's just a shame that in scaling so much back, the optional content is lacking and the story ultimately goes nowhere. Still, if you're here for an experience akin to the original Assassin's Creed, you'll find little wrong with Mirage. It's an endearing callback to what made us fall in love with the franchise over a decade ago, for better or for worse.

Rectify Gaming - Victor Tan - 8 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage gives you an engaging Assassin experience that enhances gameplay. Doing additional work to reach your target immerses you in the assassination experience. Using different weapons and objects is engaging and lets you find your preferred playstyle. Finding items and exploring locations have several benefits that make it worthwhile. There are some visual glitches and indoor navigation is difficult, but it’s a solid game that is worth exploring.

Saving Content - Ed Acosta - 4 / 5

Assassin's Creed Mirage offers an engaging experience, blending historical accuracy with the intrigue of the Assassin's Creed series. While the graphics are crisp, they may not represent a significant leap from the previous title, Valhalla. The shift towards a more stealth-focused gameplay mechanic is a welcome return to the series' roots, although combat mechanics could benefit from some refinement. The upgrade system aligns with Valhalla's mechanics and doesn't overload you with weapon choices. However, the game is marred by frustrating checkpoint issues, stronghold respawn mechanics I don't like, and occasional merchant prompt problems. Despite these drawbacks, Mirage successfully brings the series back to its stealthy origins and provides an enjoyable gaming experience for fans of the franchise like myself.

Screen Rant - Kyle Gratton - 4 / 5

The return of social stealth, for instance, is more than welcome, but as an indirect successor, Mirage doesn’t follow through on advancements that were once being made for such game mechanics, like the claustrophobic crowds of Unity’s Paris. For now, it appears that the immediate future of Assassin’s Creed remains on the expansive action RPG side, with working title Codename Red set to take players to feudal Japan. Assassin’s Creed Mirage, however, is proof that scaling back down can result in a game that elicits some of the fondest memories of the series, even if such devotion to its heritage means some clunky components make it into the mix.

Too Much Gaming - Carlos Hernandez - 4 / 5

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is proof that the original, stealthy approach to the series’ formula still works just fine in 2023; Ubisoft’s commitment and focus on a single concept is a testament to its core strengths. Mirage lacks ambition, but it’s welcome a correction from recent bloated series entries.

TrueAchievements - Heidi Nicholas - 8 / 10

Mirage feels like the perfect length — far from outstaying its welcome, I want it to keep going. This refocus on stealth is so much fun, and while I’ll still be playing the next open-ended Assassin’s Creed game we get, it feels like Mirage pretty much achieved exactly what it set out to do.

Twinfinite - Zhiqing Wan - 4 / 5

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is proof that Ubisoft doesn’t need an expansive open-world to create a compelling Assassin’s Creed game. I don’t need a laundry list of neverending chores to knock out, or endless quests and question mark icons to explore in order to level up. All I need is my hidden blade, a cool hoodie and some darts, and I’m good to go. Mirage is Ubisoft’s most focused Assassin’s Creed game in six years, and a much-needed revitalization of the series.

Twisted Voxel - Ali Haider - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage revitalizes the franchise by refocusing on stealth and assassination, set against the richly detailed backdrop of 9th-century Baghdad. While it modernizes the series' core mechanics and offers a compelling narrative, it retains some gameplay elements from its predecessor, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, which may not appeal to those seeking a completely new experience.

VG247 - Dom Peppiatt - 4 / 5

Mirage represents the past, present, and future of everything Assassin’s Creed stands for – and you can feel it in the game’s bones.

VGC - Jordan Middler - 4 / 5

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a short, sharp trip through the blood soaked streets of Baghdad. A welcome return to the series' roots, Mirage is a breath of fresh air in the endless sea of open world adventure games.

Wccftech - Nathan Birch - 8 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage doesn’t make the sharpest first impression with its dated visuals and by-the-book mechanics, but like its hooded protagonist, the game sneaks up on you with its manageably-sized yet vibrant map, intricately-woven campaign, and varied missions. Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s blade may be slightly tarnished, but it still leaves a mark.

WellPlayed - James Wood - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a gorgeously crafted love letter to the memory of the franchise, establishing a vibrant new world but coming up a little short on ideas to match it.

Windows Central - Rebecca Spear - 4 / 5

Assassin's Creed Mirage provides a fun time for fans of stealth and city climbing, even if it doesn't really add anything new to the series. The game only takes about 20 hours to beat rather than stretching on far too long. The world of ancient Baghdad is a beautiful place to explore, filled with puzzles, upgrade options, and historical areas.

XGN.nl - Stefan Stuursma - Dutch - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a nice mixture of old and new. The look and feel of this more focussed adventure match that of earlier entries, whilst going back to it's roots with the focus on stealth. Deep skill trees and a gigantic map have been swapped for a slimmed down Bagdad and a few skills to choose from. Fans of the Ezio and Altaïr era are going to feel at home right away, and even the mediocre story and the nagging bug now and then, are not going stop you from having a fun trip down memory lane.

ZdobywcyGier.eu - Bartosz Michalik - Polish - 8 / 10

Assassin's Creed: Mirage is a really interesting project. It's a smaller installment of the series, which should with its mechanical solutions satisfy the oldest fans, and at the same time be a nice refresher for newcomers to the series. Unfortunately, the storyline is not one of the strongest points of the production, giving the impression of being written in an offhand manner, even though the whole thing is a kind of blink of an eye for those who remember the first one. At the end of the day, although I am aware of the existence of better (and worse) games in the series, I had a great time with Mirage and if I ever play it again, I will do it with pleasure.

Digital Chumps - Nathaniel Stevens - 7.8 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage from developer Ubisoft Bordeaux is a scaled-back version of the last three games. It puts more focus on story delivery than it does on gameplay options and complete execution of them. It’s a good game with a wonderful lead character, but at the end of the day, you’re probably going to leave the experience wanting more.

IGN Italy - Angelo Bianco - Italian - 7.8 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage offers a gaming experience that all in all works and entertains without much pretension, although it does not allow the series to take any major step forward.

LevelUp - Pedro Pérez Cesari - Spanish - 7.8 / 10

I also don't mean that Assassin's Creed Mirage is a failed attempt. It is a game with quality in several sections and with which players who have been hooked on the series for years will enjoy. It's also for those who miss the series, but prefer to avoid the overwhelming amount of content from the most recent trilogy. However, you will find yourself with a bittersweet drink if you expect it to be the game that manages to revive all those old glories of times that, let's face it, will never return.

PC Gamer - Morgan Park - 77 / 100

Assassin's Creed Mirage isn't the triumphant return to glory that I hoped it'd be, but it's a good first stab.

Capsule Computers - Travis Bruno - 7.5 / 10

Ubisoft has successfully managed to go back to its roots with Assassin’s Creed Mirage by offering a solid story and great stealth-focused gameplay that can feel a bit too simplistic at times.

Destructoid - Steven Mills - 7.5 / 10

For those looking for a pure return of form to the original Assassin’s Creed, you’re going to love Mirage. After all, the stealth, parkour, and accompanying systems are the best they’ve been. And Baghdad is one of the best cities we’ve explored in the series yet. But for me, I can’t help but wonder if the true mirage was thinking this return to the old formula was the right direction to take.

Downtime Bros - Sam Harby - 7.5 / 10

Fans of stealth-action Assassin’s Creed will be satisfied with Mirage as a game that delivers on its central promise to revisit what first made the series so special all those years ago.

Enternity.gr - Nikitas Kavouklis - Greek - 7.5 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage returns the series to its roots, but with some discounts that "spoil" the final result.

Everyeye.it - Giuseppe Carrabba - Italian - 7.5 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage evokes with some effectiveness the chapters of the "pre-role" era, with a system of notoriety that pushes to return to anonymity with the means available to Basim.

Gamefa - Mostafa Zahedi - Persian - 7.5 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage does bring back some good old memories due to its setting and classic structure, but unfortunately it also inherits some serious issues from its predecessors. from inconsistent AI behavior to sporadic screen tear in crowded places. that aside, lack of interesting side quest and side content is also somewhat noticable. nonetheless, it's an acceptable assassin's Creed experience that could entertain us for some hours.

God is a Geek - Mick Fraser - 7.5 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is perfectly serviceable and will certainly scratch an itch for major fans - though it's arguably not a bad entry point for newcomers either.

Merlin'in Kazanı - Samet Basri Taşlı - Turkish - 75 / 100

Assassin's Creed Mirage brings the series back to the old ways. The game, which will please old fans of the series, may not please everyone with its bad artificial intelligence and old-school gameplay.

Paste Magazine - Garrett Martin - 7.5 / 10

Yet another solidly designed, thoroughly enjoyable, predictably weird, unoriginally off-the-wall Assassin’s Creed game. May they make 13 (or 29) more.

Cerealkillerz - Gabriel Bogdan - German - 7.3 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage sadly doesn't fully commit on its way back to the roots and ends up as dull mix of everything what we've already seen in the past games. Simple variations of already established systems and the short uninspiring story will especially disappoint series veterans. As Expansion, Mirage would have had the right to exist but as full price title, it doesn't offer enough.

Spaziogames - Gianluca Arena - Italian - 7.3 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage is a divisive trip down memory lane for Ubisoft: it's a retelling of the origin story we've heard many times in this franchise, and a re-enacting of the same mechanics and moment-to-moment gameplay the saga was known for before Origins. It's up to personal tastes if this is enough or not, but we were expecting more.

ComicBook.com - Tanner Dedmon - 3.5 / 5

Perhaps it comes from being tainted by the RPG-style Assassin's Creed games, but even when tallying Mirage's successes, the thought creeps in that the game doesn't always have quite enough to keep players engaged in a fulfilling way. Because of that, Mirage may not be the course correction that many were hoping for – it certainly doesn't feel like the solution to Assassin's Creed's identity crisis, but it could be a start or at least an indication that both styles of the series can coexist with one another instead of only getting one or the other.

Gameblog - Tiny_Ellie - French - 7 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage was full of great promise. In the end, it is more of a tribute than a true return to the roots.

Gamer Guides - Chris Moyse - 7 / 10

Assassin’s Creed celebrates its 15-year anniversary with a presentable tale of stealth & stab, set against the backdrop of a beautifully realized Baghdad. Unfortunately, in returning to its roots, Mirage casts an unwelcome spotlight on the series’ dated mechanics, signaling a need for evolution. For the franchise faithful, however, Assassin’s Creed Mirage remains a fine adventure offered at an agreeable price.

Kakuchopurei - Alleef Ashaari - 70 / 100

Ultimately, Assassin's Creed Mirage feels like a return to form for the franchise. If you've hated the action RPG leanings of the franchise for the past few years and have been hankering for the good old days, this game just might do it for you. Assassin's Creed Mirage isn't revolutionary in any way, and it has some issues, but it's a good enough stealth jaunt.

Metro GameCentral - GameCentral - 7 / 10

Assassin's Creed gets back-to-basics with a shorter, more focused – if slightly less polished -campaign, and a return to an impossibly beautiful looking early-era Middle East.

Nexus Hub - Andrew Logue - 7 / 10

If you love your yearly fix or want to return to the IP without having to invest 100 hours, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is easy to recommend. If, however, you’ve been desperately waiting for some evolution of the IP, you’re out of luck yet again.

Push Square - Robert Ramsey - 7 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage sets off in search of its roots, and it finds them - both for better and worse. Undeniably basic in its approach to stealth and combat, it feels oddly dated in terms of design, but it's also a refreshing reminder of series' original strengths. Ultimately, it's a solid sandbox title, and it successfully scratches the hidden blade itch that was so clearly absent in Odyssey and Valhalla.

Shacknews - Bill Lavoy - 7 / 10

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a worthwhile experience for invested fans of the series. It’s going to give you that stealth and stab gameplay that you’ve enjoyed before, even if it doesn’t build upon it outside of the tools. It’s bookended by exceptional first and third acts, but Ubisoft has again failed to create a detailed and meaningful world that you want to explore beyond its waypoints.

TheSixthAxis - Gareth Chadwick - 7 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage will appeal to anyone who's been pining for a return to the old school open world stealth of the earlier games. It's pretty much exactly that with a few extra refinements and additions. Some of those additions are a bit distracting and immersion breaking, but nothing gets in the way of some good old fashioned assassinations.

VideoGamer - Tom Bardwell - 7 / 10

Despite its faults and playing it very safe, Assassin's Creed Mirage is a step in the right direction for Ubisoft, an exercise in concision and a solid attempt to rekindle what made early AC games memorable.

Worth Playing - Chris "Atom" DeAngelus - 7 / 10

I'm not sure who's the target audience for Assassin's Creed: Mirage. It goes beyond returning to basics and is just basic. It's not terrible or unplayable, and if you enjoy the core Assassin's Creed gameplay or want a chance to run around Baghdad, it might scratch your itch. The problem is one that I've never had with an Assassin's Creed title before. They have problems, flaws, and issues aplenty, but each one felt like there was ambition behind it. Mirage feels unmemorable and bland and plays like a phoned-in Assassin's Creed title.

Zoomg - Meysam Khalilzadeh - Persian - 7 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage develops Basim into a well written character and makes following his story enjoyable. Mirage also has a beautiful world where gamers can enjoy Baghdad's amazing structures and using Arabic music helps building a great atmosphere. But gameplay is where Mirage falls short. The game mainly uses the same mechanics from Assassin's Creed Valhalla and it's not a return to roots as it was advertised in prerelease trailers. overall if you're a fan of Assassin's Creed game you will still enjoy Mirage but don't expect anything fresh and revolutionary.

Gamepressure - 6.5 / 10

Indeed, in my humble opinion, AC Mirage is a good candidate for one of the worst installments of Ubisoft's Assassin's series. The whole thing is rather embarrassing, disappointing, and synthetic in a bad way; forced. However, I must praise the creators for a quite successful combination of old and new gameplay formulas.

TrueGaming - حسين الموسى - Arabic - 6.5 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage granted a personal wish and carried us to the city of peace, presenting it wonderfully in terms of both visuals and sounds, even though Orientalism was very apparent in the way it depicted its setting and characters. However, the repetitive gameplay loop and the weak enemy AI do weaken the whole experience

Attack of the Fanboy - Diego Perez - 3 / 5

Outside of its stunning setting, Assassin's Creed Mirage doesn't have anything exciting or new to offer. It's a mixture of the worst parts of classic and modern Assassin's Creed, sacrificing both storytelling and exploration in an attempt to appease fans from both eras.

Cubed3 - Justin Prinsloo - 6 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage offers a return to the roots the series is known for, shedding the RPG elements and massive open world for a more intimate experience. Social stealth and traditional parkour are back, and while they don't offer anything the franchise hasn't seen before, they're complemented by a gorgeous recreation of historical Baghdad. The setting is the true protagonist and offers players something new to experience where the gameplay fails to do so. Fans of the series are sure to be refreshed by this calculated step backwards for the franchise, before it inevitably returns to its massive RPG identity.

Digital Trends - Tomas Franzese - 3 / 5

At first, Assassin’s Creed Mirage seems like it’s going through all of the proper classical motions of an old-school Assassin’s Creed game, but it lacks the passion and innovation necessary to make it a truly memorable installment. While Ubisoft’s ability to create historical locations in immaculate detail is still unmatched, the bland story and missions demonstrate that Assassin’s Creed still needs to make a true leap of faith.

Eurogamer.pt - Bruno Galvão - Portuguese - 3 / 5

Assassin's Creed: Mirage is a game with moments of pure splendor, where you will find yourself standing still absorbing the scenes as if you wanted to breathe the city and the places where Basim passes. The classic gameplay, focused on the stealth element, simplified for immediate fun and without artificial elements to prolong longevity, conquers, but the enemy AI constantly breaks the immersion and removes satisfaction from your interaction, to the point of almost making it banal to play as Ubisoft intends you to play.

GameSpot - Jordan Ramée - 6 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage's focus on social stealth and detective work makes for a compelling dive into ninth-century Baghdad.

Saudi Gamer - عبد الله الباشان - Arabic - 6 / 10

Assassin's Creed went backwards (literally) with Mirage. Even though they have managed to capture Baghdad in a perfect way, yet they failed to deliver a good game on its own.

Siliconera - Cody Perez - 6 / 10

Assassin's Creed Mirage digs deep to return to its roots, but loses what made it so great in the process with messy climbing and an unnecessary story.

TheGamer - Joe Parlock - 3 / 5

Playing on nostalgia is only worthwhile if you’re making it better than what came before, but Assassin’s Creed Mirage is too busy fawning over the Ezio trilogy to notice just how aged it’s become.

GRYOnline.pl - Jan Tracz - Polish - 5.5 / 10

Assassin’s Creed: Mirage has some good features that fans should appreciate, but ultimately even they will become tired with extremely dull gameplay. We should demand more from this series. This kind of pseudo-return to the roots is not enough.

PlayStation LifeStyle - Michael Leri - 5 / 10

While its brevity impedes the story, Assassin’s Creed Mirage is thankfully a lot shorter than the last few entries. However, its relatively slender figure only points out how the series has used quantity to overcompensate for its stagnation.

Slant Magazine - Aaron Riccio - 2.5 / 5

Mirage ought to have been more than the dim illusion of where the series has already traveled.

Console Creatures - Bobby Pashalidis - Recommended

Assassin's Creed Mirage sets out to achieve a specific goal and delivers one of the best games in the series in ages. While the experience has some problems worth mentioning, I never felt any of them deterred the total experience for me.

Entertainium - Eduardo Rebouças - Loved

Assassin’s Creed Mirage harkens back to the franchise’s past as it shines light on a criminally overlooked setting for videogames and the culture of islam in what’s one of the most concise entries in modern Assassin’s Creed.

Gaming Age - Matthew Pollesel - A-

Assassin’s Creed Mirage continues that run of solid games, without question. It doesn’t break new ground – by design, I would argue – but it shows that around twenty games in (counting spin-offs), there’s still plenty of story for the series to delve into. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an Assassin’s Creed game, for all the good and bad (mostly good) that entails.

Kotaku - Zack Zwiezen - Unscored

It’s nice, in 2023, to play a modern AAA open-world video game that doesn’t feel like a slog to work through. One which rewards stealth and non-lethal tactics, too. When I was finished with almost everything Mirage had to offer—after about 25 hours—I found myself hopeful that Ubisoft will continue making not just big “RPG” Assassin’s Creed games, but also smaller, stealthier entries, too.

One More Game - Chris Garcia - Buy

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a triumphant return to form for the franchise, shedding its action RPG-heavy influences from previous installments and creating a smaller and tighter adventure that is centered on the key pillars of stealth, assassinations, and parkour.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a great fusion of new and old, and simply goes to show that when Ubisoft listens to what fans want, they can go on to build something that many will enjoy and appreciate, especially an entry from a beloved franchise such as Assassin’s Creed.

Polygon - Tauriq Moosa - Polygon Recommends

Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s focus makes it one of the best games in the series

PowerUp! - Leo Stevenson - Liked

Overall, Assassin's Creed: Mirage is a decent game in the series, but a largely forgettable one. After the dizzying heights of Odyssey and Valhalla, Mirage takes too much of a step back and relies too much on gameplay the series has long moved on from.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - Alice Bell - Unscored

Assassin's Creed Mirage takes some of the best bits from the whole series and puts them together in a smaller, more focused, stealthier package. This is how big companies can make better games.

SIFTER - Gianni Di Giovanni - Worth your time

You know when I knew Assassin's Creed Mirage had got me? I found myself searching for the historical places and people just to learn more. That's something I remember fondly doing when playing the original on my Xbox 360 and Ubisoft have done a great job of recreating that feeling from all so long ago. If you've bounced off previous titles, this could be the game to bring you back the world of the Hidden Ones.

Vamers - Edward Swardt - Essential

There is no denying how Assassin’s Creed Mirage represents a notable return to the franchise’s roots, offering a fresh yet familiar experience for long-time fans. While the game takes place in the bustling city of Baghdad and explores the origins of Basim Ibn Ishaq, it successfully recaptures the essence of the earlier Assassin’s Creed titles, whilst retaining the personality and mechanics introduced in recent entries. Mirage’s tight and tiered rooftop traversal, along with its one-shot assassinations, hearken back to the franchise’s origins, but it seamlessly incorporates modern gameplay elements from titles like Valhalla. Despite occasional parkour hiccups, the game’s movement feels fluid and responsive, making it one of the best feeling entries in the series. Basim’s glass-cannon playstyle encourages stealth and clever tool usage, reminiscent of Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell. With its compelling narrative, engaging gameplay, and a balanced blend of old and new, Assassin’s Creed Mirage proves how the franchise’s evolution continues to surprise and captivate players, offering a golden return to form for this iconic series.

Yea and I didn't realize it's sitting at a 76 on opencritic. Definitely not in a rush to play this because I honestly don't like stealth in games.

I've been playing Spider-Man on deck.  And I find that game has about the same amount of Stealth as the recent AC games.

I suspect the real question is -- how much do you like AC games?  Much of the enthusiast press doesn't like that style of game very much, so I am not surprised by the mediocre reviews.

Decent reviews, kinda didn’t expect it to be that high since it’s an intentionally unambitious release. All it had to do was not reveal itself as a disaster in the reviews. I guess how quick I play the other games in my line up will determine if I wait for the ios version or not.

I really enjoyed the massive ones like Odyssey and Valhalla but they both were too big for their own good. I'm not getting this. I'm waiting for next year's AC.

I'm not saying you'll enjoy any of the AC games, but you really can't base your decision on the first one. Although the first has a few fans, by large most people agree it didn't actually deliver until the AC2 trilogy (which, yes, is a weird thing to say).

And then the Origins and Odyssey games are entirely different beasts from that.

In the opening mission, I coldcocked a guard. His buddy saw me in the distance, came to look and see what was up. While standing on top of his KO'd friend, he said everything looked fine and then walked away. Original AC vibes confirmed.

Also this game has you tearing down wanted posters to reduce notoriety for the first time in a while. So far all the posters have been in places that "make sense." This makes it feel more realistic, but I miss the lulz of Ezio tearing down wanted posters that no civilians could access :p

I feel like it’s on par with the other recent games just much more reasonable in scope.

I'm not talking about the scope but lots of visual bugs. Jaggies, stretchy textures, hard edges, things clipping into other things, stuff just looking unfinished. I'm on a 4080 maxed out settings

This applies to every console from PS5 to Series X and X, which leads us to the comparisons. The first bit of good news is that all three consoles launch with the same options. There are two modes - as with Valhalla: a 60 frames per second frame-rate mode and a higher-resolution quality mode at 30fps. PS5, Series X and S are broadly identical in their quality modes. While targeting 30fps, the biggest dividing point is resolution. You get a dynamic 4K on PS5 and Series X, going down at occasional points to 1944p. On Series S we get a still-impressive dynamic 1620p, with a 1512p lower bounds.

In terms of visual differences otherwise, PS5 and Series X use precisely the same settings in textures, draw, shadow quality - and beyond. It's only in comparing Series S to Series X that we see any real differences on the 30fps quality mode. Focusing on the two Xboxes, the margins are slight but worth pointing out. Firstly, during big panorama shots of the city, Series S reins in its level of detail setting for geometry, shadow and also tree quality. However, in the flow of play, the cutbacks are barely noticeable. In 60fps mode, Series S shadow quality drops still further, but it's still a good looking release.

Generally, as you would expect, the 60fps mode trades resolution for frames. That means a drop to 1800p dynamic on PS5 and Series X, with 1440p as the lower bounds. As for Series S, it's a dynamic 1080p in this case, with 864p as the lower bounds, a much more noticeable drop in image quality. Distant detail is less defined, but it's a fair trade to get the game running at 60fps. Resolution isn't the only element that gets pruned back to hit 60fps here. Taking Series X as an example, and comparing frame-rate versus quality modes, there are other tweaks. Notably, again, geometry and plant LODs are dropped. Otherwise though, both modes turn in a very similar experience on the streets. Texture quality, the volumetric fog, even the NPC count appears to stay in place regardless of mode.
