Prometheus is one of those movies where the buildup is so fucking good and it just absolutely shits the bed in spectacular fashion in the last act. I'm still mad about it whenever it comes up. It had so much potential, at least at the time. Only saw it once in the theater and was absolutely livid that it squandered everything about that amazing lore. Only other movie in recent memory that shat the bed this hard was Hereditary for my money but at least it was hilarious.

DId you ever see Dreamcatcher?

I have not, nope. Good?

I mentioned it because your description of Prometheus would also fit Dreamcatcher but instead of shitting the bed at the end it does it right about the middle of the movie. I saw it in theaters and was quite disappointed. :p

That first half, pretty cool though.

We should have a thread of Movies That Shit The Bed. If I put my mind to it, I'm sure I can come up with quite the list. There's nothing more disappointing than getting into a film, being immersed and invested and then disaster strikes.

I like that topic.

28 Days Later comes to mind. That movie is incredible till the soldiers show up.

I've seen people say the same thing bout another Danny Boyle movie that I love SUNSHINE. Movie is amazing and I didn't mind the third act personally, but I can see why the tonal shift bothered a lot of folks.

Agreed. I LOVE Sunshine and I also don’t hate the 3rd act. But it’s def a major drop off. The first 2/3’s of the movie are an atmospheric master piece. Then it turns into some shitty horror-esque finale that doesn’t pull off the Event Horizon vibe it was going for.

I thought it was unintentionally hilarious. The scene in the attic made the whole theater burst out laughing when I saw it. Kid jumping out of the window especially was great.

what a weird takeaway and theatre audience

i saw it opening night and the audience was probably the exact opposite from yours

This roundtable discussion almost makes me want to see this film:

What accent is Lady Gaga using? What size scarf is Jeremy Irons wearing? And what in the name of Gucci is Jared Leto doing in general?

I think I’m going to see it this afternoon. The only thing making me apprehensive is the run time.

Honest question, has Pacino turned in a performance that has been better than “fine” since the 90’s?

I feel like he has bit I really can't think of one at the moment. He was pretty good as Hoffa I think in The Irishman.  I know a while ago he was on Larry King saying that he was still acting pretty much because he had to because some bad money moves fucked his money up.

I haven’t seen the Irishman, but the rest of his filmography since then is kinda… yikes.
