Joe Biden beats Donald Trump, officially making Trump a one-term twice impeached, twice popular-vote losing president

What does the GOP have to gain by discrediting them?  It makes no fucking difference to them.  On the one hand, they sow discord before Biden even sets foot in the office and make his life infinitely more difficult and rabble rouse their base.  On the other hand, through outright fuckery, they stay in power.  It’s an inverse war games, the only way to lose is not to play.

Good point.

This is why I wish Biden has overwhelmingly won, because there would be no doubt that Trump lost.

But whatever.  Nothing we can do now.

I’m becoming my previous nervous pessimistic self.

I feel like we’re in an era where information and facts don’t matter.  Let’s say it was a Biden blowout.  More proof he cheated, no way it could be that bad!  Biden squeaks by?  They just found votes to make up for it!

It’s why I’m so tired of arguments over messaging and outreach, who fucking cares anymore?  People believe literal impossible nonsense.  A fair portion of the country truly believes in a deep state that doesn’t have the time to fake ballots with markings for senator.  Millions of Americans refuse to believe a man who can’t fucking book a hotel for a press conference could possibly lose an election.  The amount of bullshit you have to buy to accept any of this is measured in kilotons.  For fucks sake, people are arguing that they booked a landscaping company because there are so many people hostile to Trump on the area, then say it’s absurd that he lost that area so badly.

For what it's worth, I really do believe that this incredibly incompetent coup attempt will fail.

However, if it wasn't BLATANTLY OBVIOUS before it SURE AS HELL must be now that those norms-based "guardrails" constraining bad actors within the American political system are laughably useless jokes to the point that claiming their existence is nothing short of delusional.

The damage to the US political system is irreparable at this point - there is no coming back from it.  Let us all hope that the inevitable dissolution is as relatively peaceful as possible.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on that. The precedent set by Trump's brazen disregard for decency, humanity or well, having a spine, is the eeriest part to me about this whole disaster. It feels like a "oh...OH...why didn't we just do this all along if you can actually get away with this shit?" situation and the upcoming new norm.

I know that feeling all too well.

If ever there was clear evidence of the superiority of a parliamentary system, here it is!

I don't see how that can be disputed at this point.

Spain. They have elections like every year and nobody wins.

Anyone remember this?

Like I've said before. This country is run by retirement cases that are either evil, stupid, or both. Luckily, Trump is evil and stupid, but nothing will save us the next time just evil pops up because everyone else is just stupid. Nothing can survive on norms and unwritten rules. Just ask the MLB about their dying audience.

Pretty much.

Except that in the real world, the parents would have to pay for all of the damages the child does the store and its property.

But here, the GOP will suffer likely no consequences, and will even benefit by throttling Biden from doing anything, take back the House and gain firmer control over the Senate in 2022, get Trump reelected in 2024, and then we are truly fucked.

That's certainly not an unreasonable analysis.

Pennsylvania Party Leadership votes are this week. I hope they pick very tough and smart fighters. We will WIN!!

But this tracks with wanting the legislature to appoint their own electors. PA alone won't do it but that's hardly the point right now is it?
