Trump is capped at 42%, thats just amazing...

Quinnipiac University has for the first time conducted national head-to-head polls matching up Trump and some of the leading Democratic presidential hopefuls. None of the matchups is good for Trump.

Trump trails all six by between five and 13 points, with Joe Biden holding the biggest advantage and the lesser-known candidates — Sen. Cory Booker (N.J.) and Mayor Pete Buttigieg — holding the smallest leads.

  • Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders over President Trump 51 - 42 percent;
  • California Sen. Kamala Harris ahead of Trump 49 - 41 percent;
  • Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren tops Trump 49 - 42 percent;
  • South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg edges Trump 47 - 42 percent;
  • New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker by a nose over Trump 47 - 42 percent.

After being briefed on a devastating 17-state poll conducted by his campaign pollster, Tony Fabrizio, Mr. Trump told aides to deny that his internal polling showed him trailing Mr. Biden in many of the states he needs to win, even though he is also trailing in public polls from key states like Texas, Michigan and Pennsylvania. And when top-line details of the polling leaked, including numbers showing the president lagging in a cluster of critical Rust Belt states, Mr. Trump instructed aides to say publicly that other data showed him doing well.

Polls like that really shouldn't be a surprise. I get that we all remember 2016 and no one wants to be to optimistic.  Still, anyone that thinks Trump isn't going into 2020 with a MASSIVE handicap, hasn't been paying attention to any of the special or midterm elections that have taken place since then.

Funny how every single poll has him right around 41-42%. Based on rounding in those polls, I'd say right at 41.5. I'd also imagine the Democrats lead increasing with better name recognition (see Bernie and Joe having similar leads, and are the two most well known Democrats, but are so very, very different on policy)

If it's purely about name recognition then Warren should legally change her name to Pocahontas.

An excerpt from Sanders' speech soon, defending Democratic socialism:

Quote

"While President Trump and his fellow oligarchs attack us for our support of democratic socialism, they don't really oppose all forms of socialism," Sanders plans to say in the speech, according to CNN. "They may hate democratic socialism because it benefits working people, but they absolutely love corporate socialism that enriches Trump and other billionaires."

I'm liking what I'm reading. The speech looks to be around 2pm ET.

Bernie wastes so much energy trying to redefine democratic socialism. You be the judge on what his real political philosophy is based on his policies:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_socialism

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_democracy

Since Sanders insists that the term be used, my guess is he still believes in transforming the means of production.

Quote

The difference between the two is that social democrats support social democratic positions as practical reforms within and to capitalism and as an end in itself whereas democratic socialists ultimately want to go beyond social democratic reform and capitalism and advocate systemic transformation of the economy from capitalism to socialism

who cares.  Politics isn’t about being nice

You're right, it's about image. And his supporters look like assholes, which makes him look bad, making his image worse. This makes him less appealing. It's like how Obama had more appeal than Clinton even though she had more experience. Politics isn't about ideas (if it was, technocrats would be President), it's about getting elected. Being mean can certainly work, but not if you're running on a "let's help people" campaign.

Makes sense, I was gonna vote for Hillary until Anabanana started stumping for her.

people who have that opinion of Bernie supporters wouldn't vote for him in the first place.  that image is mostly confined to extremely online liberals
