Just one Rep and one Senator can object to a slate of electors which forces a discussion and then a full vote in both chambers. Pretty sure that vote requires a majority from both House and Senate. Even in the absolute worst case scenario the GOP can not win this because Dems control the House. They can't even really cause a stalemate because even if McConnell brought down the hammer and pulled every string he has he almost certainly couldn't get Romney, Murkowski, Collins, and maybe even others to get on board. So Mitch is going the other way. He is whipping no senators to even go along with the discussion and vote thing because all that is going to do is force his caucus into a Trumpian purity test. In that interview, he expressed why liberals have to kind of "pull their punches" within the Democrat party while Republicans can basically be as radical as they want without any repercussions. He said, basically, Republicans are appealing to a specific minority of people. Democrats have to appeal to the majority of people who accept reality. Republicans can create a monolith around shit like abortion and gun rights, whereas Democrats have to weave through a field of a bunch of different beliefs. While I still think they should adopt more progressive policies as I think actual progressive policies would win over more poor white people, I understand why Democrats on the national stage tend to toe the line.
