That Variety article has no sourcing and sounds like all speculation.

If Variety printed it, it’s 99.9% likely to be correct. They have deep connections everywhere in Hollywood.

Not surprising given there's more than likely more shit out there that can be used against him. Shame.

Oh there most definitely was more stuff or Disney would not have been so quick to fire him. As soon as Gunn's tweets came to the spotlight Gunn went on a mass Twitter deletion and deleted over 10 thousand of his tweets. The stuff that internet guys archived was what Gunn posted from 2008 to 2012. The tweets he deleted though were posted by him all the way up to 2016. So Gunn had been saying offensive stuff for a very long time and fairly recently. Included in those tweets Gunn had made fun of the LGBT community which he later did appologize for. The pedophillia stuff howevever, he never had apologized for them until after he was fired from Disney. On top of that many of the offensive messages Gunn had been posting where with Huston Huddleson who later was convicted for child pornography.

Guardians 3 Production "Put on hold"

Quote

he production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is being put on hold for the time being as Marvel and Disney regroup on the project, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Sources say that crew members, at this stage a small group that was prepping for pre-production, are being dismissed and are free to look for new work.

The Marvel project was to have been directed by James Gunn and was to have begun principal photography in the winter, either in January or February. The project was crewing up and was to have gone into full pre-production mode in the fall.

One person characterized the production hold as temporary and more of a "regrouping" as Marvel and Disney look for a filmmaker to take on the third installment of a franchise that has grossed over $1.6 billion and made stars out of Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and Zoe Saldana.

"The timeline has been pushed out," says a source. Disney never set a release date for Guardians 3.

That's already been ruled out by Disney big wigs.

I've heard that Alan Horn is going to be retiring (again) in a few months. Not sure if that's actually true or not, but if so maybe Disney could rehire Gunn after Horn is gone.

Your right Disney doesn't need Gunn but Disney cares about money. Losing Gunn and potentially having to recast a new GotG is money. Disney will be fine with out Gunn but I'm sure they will get some kind of backlash because of this stupid controversy when it comes with the GotG franchise. It's up to Disney if they care enough to do one last GotG or just scrap it and focus on something else.

Here's the real question: Will Disney take him to court for breaching his contract by refusing to return? To me that would result in bad PR for Disney...but Disney is also known for being litigious.

According to sblfilms, all contracts have an out clause. Not sure if that would really prevent them from suing, but for what purpose?

Yeah, the breach would only come if he didn’t do whatever remedies are required to get out of it which generally would require returning some money and/or foregoing future royalties.

As much as I love Drax, there are literally a TON of characters that they could bring in to replace him without recasting. Plus, according to a lot of you guys, a significant amount of the audience who saw Infinity War believe Drax is dead for good and won't be coming back. Marvel could easily recut The next Avengers movie and not bring Drax back for whatever reason when the rest of the characters are brought back.

This whole situation is just infuriating, and stupid. Alan Horn, for all that he's done in Hollywood, being one of the greatest producers, right now has to look like he dumbest executive right now for getting played by Weird Mike Cernovich. This whole thing can simply be fixed by rehiring James Gunn. Realistically I know that is a long shot, and if he were to come back, it would most likely be as a producer on the film where he gives his blessing of the new director, and he keeps going forward with his plans of the more cosmic movies that Marvel had planned to do with him after GotG3. The longer Disney drags this out the dumber they look.

How did Alan Horn get played? Last night I was at a family birthday party and one of my nephews asked what I thought about this situation, and a bunch of people didn’t know anything about it. I showed a few of the tweets, even after giving context, and the universal reaction was “what kind of person jokes about that?” Those are the reactions that Alan Horn is protecting his brand from, not yours or even Dave Bautista’s. Disney doesn’t care about the culture war and they definitely don’t care about art or artists. They care about the brand and making money and anything that threatens those things will be removed frlm

the equation as they see fit.

I can’t say this enough times, but James Gunn doesn’t matter to Disney. I don’t even think Guardians 3 itself matters to Disney. The first time Disney will really worry about the MCU is when Feige leaves, because that dude makes it all work.

Just to give you a sense of how crazy Disney is with regards to protecting profits: Despite having the highest grossing slate of any of the studios, despite having the widest release slate (and thus largest number of theaters serving their product), Disney has only three sales managers for their North America theatrical distribution team. Tiny STX has five. Disney is also the only studio that has their sales managers handle bookkeeping and AR tasks like collecting payments and applying them in their booking system. Literally every other studio has dedicated cashier teams that handle payment info.

Disney has a tiny team and consolidates three or four positions into one and runs their whole distribution team ragged because they care about making as much money as possible at all human cost.

What exactly was the context you gave them? This whole mess could have been avoided had Alan Horn taken two seconds to see where this thing was originating from, rather than, pardon the pun, jumped the gun on firing James Gunn for this fake outrage being manufactured by Cernovich and other people who don't matter.

The context doesn't matter because most people who see the GotG movies have no fucking clue who James Gunn is.

In that case then he never should have been fired because most people would never even known or heard about his old Tweets.

This stuff was 6-10 years ago, most people close to him say he’s changed, yadda yadda. They don’t care, half of them were in  the “only a pedo would make those kinds of jokes.” camp. Cernovich didn’t manufacture their response. Most people just find that sort of humor detestable.

"Only a pedo would make those kind of jokes"? I'm sorry, no offense to you, but, really? Are your family members conservatives or something? :p

They are my in laws, and no, they aren’t. I don’t think you grasp how gross people find Gunn’s jokes.

No one is defending his jokes. We all think they're gross! However, the man didn't deserve to have lost his job because of something he did years ago and is no longer that same kind of person! At the end of the day, as disgusting as they were, they're just jokes. Meanwhile Johnny Depp can beat his wife, and still get to play Jack Sparrow? What?!

For a lot of people, you just did. Downplaying his behavior with the “it is just a joke” line is a defense of indefensible behavior to these folks.

Oddly enough on the Depp issue, my cousin that I grew up with dated Amber Heard when he was at UT Austin and we hung out a few times. I definitely believe her claims against Depp,.
