You gotta problem with that?

This looks like what a $40 remake should be.  And yes, those are comparisons to Dolphin.  The latter is even from an AI texture pack.

The game is 21 years old, they threw some new textures on it which mod communities do for free for innumerous pc games. It is not worth $40 but people will buy it because it is nintendo and rabid fanboys will rush out to felate their favorite corporate overlord

I literally just made the comparison to an emulator texture pack job for you.  It's right up there, looking much uglier than Nintendo's remaster.

That's not a fanboy take in the slightest.  It's pretty objectively true here, unless you think unrounded polygons look better or something nutso.  Check your own bias if you can't see it.

How long ago was that texture pack made?

Just in general I think "remasters" are the biggest scam going in the video game space besides the obviously predatory loot boxes/gacha mechanics.

It's crazy to me that anyone would pay $40 or defend the price point when things like Resident evil &  final fantasy 7 remakes exist & cost a mere $20 more. Also as we know this will never go on sale, it will be $40 forever because Nintendo.

Less than a year ago.  Screencap from 3 months ago found on Reddit.

I'm not a fan of remakes either generally, but I also believe credit to a quality remaster should be given when its due.  On the surface, the effort looks more in line with Bluepoint's work with Shadow of the Collosus and Demon's Souls.

As for value, this game shouldn't be singled out when you have similar remasters of games less in need of it, like Last of Us and Dead Space, releasing at $70 or $60.

Call Nintendo out for releasing Skyward Sword nearly untouched at $60, not this at $40.

I do call out those shameless cash grabs like you mentioned, I was blasting TLOU even though it's one my favorite games the price is insulting, ditto for skyrward sword.

For the record I wasn't implying that you specifically were a fanboy more that Nintendo often is able to skirt criticism because for many people they can do no wrong. People on the switch subreddit were straight up claiming joycon stick drift was a myth for like 2 years and it's infuriating.

One of my favourite games of all time. My jaw dropped when I saw it finally revealed after so many rumours, and to hear it was available to download now. Would have loved to have also gotten Echoes and Corruption as well, but hopefully we'll get those soon down the line, especially if this does well, which it should. Yeah I'll pay $50 CAD for each one even if I would have much rather paid $80 CAD for all three together.

It's fuckin pathetic. Where the fuck is Prime 4? Nintendo is absolutely ridiculous imo. I could say so much more but I'd get shit on in here by the fanboys.

Out of curiosity, you’ve indicated you don’t even like Metroid, so why do you care? Nintendo is supposed to be dead to you?

It would sort of be like me going into every Xbox related thread to bash them.

When did I say I didn't like Metroid? Metroid Prime is one of my favorite games ever. Maybe you're confusing it with Metroid Dread? I dislike 2-D games because it's not 1988 anymore.

I've played it with the HD texture pack via Primehack several times and this does look a lot better. That being said, they should've absolutely done the trilogy which might've honestly enticed me to get a Switch.

And yeah, where the fuck is Prime 4? Or any word at all about it for that matter?

I forget: was that announced the year the Switch was released?

I had to google it. It was announced 5 years ago.

Also after checking out a bit more footage, it definitely isn't enough of an upgrade to waste $40 on. It now looks like a decent PS3 game instead of a PS2 game with a texture pack I guess...yay Nintendo in 2023?

But imagine a decent PS3 game's graphics ON AN OLED SCREEN! :o

I wonder how long they've been sitting on this one? Surely the rest are complete as well and just waiting for a lull to release.

Prime is one of my favorite games, but being able to play on Dolphin with either GCN or Wii controls is probably good enough for me. I dunno, I'll have to read some impressions on how well the game plays and how the graphics compare overall. Definitely not paying $40. I can wait for a sale.

Nintendo is garbage for my gaming tastes. I think I played 3-4 games since the Switch was released. I don't like Pokémon or any other Japanese rpgs and that's basically what they offer. If I was 8 years old it would be a cool system I guess.

I loved the GameCube because that's when they actually made great games for all audiences. The Wii was a gimmick and the Switch is a handheld which I despise. I know basically everyone who posts here loves Nintendo and will hate this post but it's just my opinion. If you guys like their online, games, and no price drops then more power to you.

I dunno, doesn't look nearly nice enough over the base game to warrant the price, especially as it comes at the cost of what a lot of us wanted: the Metroid Prime Trilogy pack. So 2 less games for an upgrade from a Gamecube game to a Wii game.

IMO, It would have been disappointing to release the same collection as-is again for $40.  I’d really love to see the whole thing redone in one big package a la Mass Effect Trilogy, but it would have been more effort and time to hit this quality bar.

If they do 2+3 like this in the future and sell it for $70, I think that would be fine.  But for now… let’s see Prime 4.

If the rumors were true, Retro had something to prove with this remake to get to work on 4, stealing it back from that now dissolved Chinese dev.  In that regard, it served its purpose.

My tinfoil hat says Retro not only did this, and had been done for sometime given how it was a stealth drop, but they're working on, or have worked on remastered the rest of the trilogy in prep for Prime 4 coming out later on.

My other thought is this is more of a test bench for the devs as most of the original staff are no longer there.

I'm personally excited for this as it's clearly not a simple rush job. It looks like a nice balance between what most remasters are, and a full on remake. Geometry is clearly updated from the original, on top of all the lighting, textures, and shadows. There's some actual work being done here. And on top of that, they're providing all the different control options from Classic, all the way to conventional dual analog, which is great. I'll probably stick with classic myself, but may give the other controls a try.

This is how a remaster should be done.
