This is an excerpt from Sarah Huckabee Sanders' response according to an NBC reporter on the forbidden site

Per prepared remarks, Sarah Huckabee Sanders will say in her SOTU response: "We are under attack in a left-wing culture war we didn’t start and never wanted to fight. "Every day, we are told that we must partake in their rituals, salute their flags and worship their false idols."

 

I guess they're gonna try convincing people that being LGBT means you salute the pride flag? I have no idea what else "their flags" would refer to.

I realize this is a gross overreaction, but it feels like Biden has stumbled upon a new SOTU format. He’s been having ongoing dialogue with the GOP members all night, getting them to yell out and make admissions or concessions and then riffing on them for it.

I disagree with the board: I think SotU's should be speeches. It's politicking 101 -- you have to give people a reason to care, not just in legislating and signing bills into law but also telling people what you did. A speech to outline what you've done and what you want to do is the perfect way to do it. Many people don't follow every news story or know the results of past legislation, and a speech is a more appealing and persuasive way to get your message across.

 

Obama's problem, as great an orator as he was, is that he didn't sell his accomplishments at all and even admitted that they never were able to bring public opinion on his side in between getting things done, part of it through sheer lack of touting the stuff he got done. It was annoying how many Americans didn't connect good things that were happening to the laws that helped make them happen. I want Biden to speak about his accomplishments in local news market after local news market and take the opportunity to do so in big events like this.

 

The speech was very good, and I'm starting to think that some of his debate struggles three years ago were his being rusty. He's old, and he's clearly not the same rapid-fire spitter of 15 years ago, but it was very entertaining watching him tackle the jeers during the Social Security/Medicare portion of his speech.

 

For the nitty-gritty, there was no movement in the polls once the infrastructure bill was signed into law because the law wasn't going to change anything that day, so its passage didn't automatically mean something tangible for Americans. Biden's been across the country for project after project opening up due to the law, and putting into context what the 2021 law continues to do and will do in the 2020s; that's important for people to know to connect the dots. And this kind of speech makes it much easier to summarize his "Made in America" message, uniting progress on infrastructure, semiconductor chip manufacturing, and green energy manufacturing increasing in the U.S. to remind or inform Americans that the long-held belief that America doesn't make anything anymore is not just being reversed, but it's being reversed with a 21st century mindset. And laws such as capping insulin prices for Medicare recipients and the continued effort to cap prices for everyone makes good policy and a good soundbite.

 

Let him speak as much as possible. He already knows this, though.
