Congress certifies the EC votes.

Right but that doesn't mean they can change them, lol.  You guys need to take a xanax and relax, any attempt to stay in power without 270 votes is the end of the US and its all irrelevant.  His only hope is its close enough to SCOTUS can stop voting, none of this other shit you guys go on about makes any sense.

SCOTUS can't do anything either, states certify their elections once thats done thats it.  SCOTUS can only get involved in stopping or allowing vote counting to continue, they can't award EVs.

--Trump declares the election results fraudulent and invalid

--SCOTUS rules 5-4 that the president can declare the election results invalid if the Senate votes so

He still didn't receive 270 EVs and is done Jan 20th, the president must be elected, so if no winner emerges speaker becomes president.

It gives time to refute them, delegitimize them, and call them into question. Trump’s game-plan is likely to prevent a legally unambiguous win for Biden, call into question the election’s legitimacy, prevent the formation of a consensus as to whether there is any election outcome at all, and potentially seize onto that uncertainty to hold onto power.

I'm straight up telling you none of that matters, its extremely clear that if a winner doesn't emerge the presidents term ends Jan. 20th.  Everything you guys are coming up with ends this country full stop.

Man, its simple. Trump Is winning on election day because mail in hasnt all been received. SCOTUS decides millions of ballots not in by election day don’t count.  Also, I believe some governors think they should be able to give their electors to whoever they want. Theres a lot of possibilities.

Yes and all of the possibilities end extremely badly for all involved.

SCOTUS rules 5-4 that the incumbent only needs 239 EVs to win!

...okay, I'm exaggerating and going into doomsday porn here.

In all seriousness, I just have no faith, no fight, no hope, no...anything after how this year has gone.  What evidence do I have that Trump, the GOP, the SCOTUS, and their allies won't try any sort of fuckery they can to maintain power if Biden wins?

The problem I keep running into when I search for things to calm my concerns is that mostly everything seems to be unwritten norms and/or precedents. Show me I’m wrong. Please, I want actual laws and safeguards.

The Civil War is all i can think of, where Lincoln's election cause the south to secede not what you're looking for obviously, but I don't think the country survives it if they do something that obvious to grab power.

If nothing else, there’s something scary about seeing so much certainty about Trump’s demise just before the election.  I mean, the posters at 538 are close to popping the champagne already; if Trump wins their heads are going to collectively explode and Nate’s sight is going to crash.  I can’t help but worry the weird dynamics of an election happening in a pandemic aren’t overstating Democrats’ chances through the early voting numbers.

To be fair, there are also a decent number of us (myself included) that are already sizing up the noose.

We've only been a true multiracial democracy for about sixty years so I'm not real high on institutions, stacked by the way with party hacks, to save us

Tens of thousands of votes, minimum, will be thrown out and not counted, similar to what happened in bush v gore, because of some last minute Calvinball by the conservative judiciary. Between this in a few states and a few other things can toss the election to trump.  This isn't controversial, it's the openly stated plan

Hey, I don’t think the country survives it either should it happen  :p

The problem is, I’m listening to what the orange man and is cheeto sucking sycophants have been screaming for the past 6+ months. He’s been trying to delegitimize the election results since like April when his approval ratings began plunging. I don’t see him leaving willingly, and there just doesn’t seem to be a hell of a lot of actual safeguards in place, which is worrisome. I do not see a path, outside of a landslide Biden victory, that Trump doesn’t at least attempt to contest the election results.

 @PaladinSolo
Just so we’re clear, btw, my argument isn’t that what I’ve posted is 100% going to happen - it’s that having the concern is not unfounded, nor is it “bizarre”
