Quote

Taking place a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, in which protagonist Ethan Winters traveled to Louisiana to search for his missing wife, Mia, Resident Evil Village sees the reunited Mia and Ethan living happily together and putting their shared nightmares of the Baker’s plantation house behind them.

Quote

Finally able to move on from those horrifying events, Ethan’s world suddenly comes crashing down once again when Chris Redfield, an unexpected yet familiar face makes an appearance, setting off a chain of events that sees a distraught Ethan seeking answers to Chris’s shocking actions… and ultimately finding him in a mysterious village.

Unlike the cramped corridors of the Baker mansion in Resident Evil 7, the fear of dark corners has been replaced with the anxiety of the unknown as Ethan searches for answers within decrepit buildings among snow-covered trees.

They made Chris look like Chris again, rather than whoever that was in VII. I don't know what I think about any of the rest of the game. It doesn't seem very RE from the trailer, but I'm guessing the biological experiments that created all this nonsense will be revealed at some point.

There was a brief flash of the Umbrella symbol, though I think by now it's more of a macguffin than anything. But I'll be honest.. after the past few RE games and the Revelations series introducing all these generic evil corporations and shadow agencies with these stupid fucking names, I'll be happier than a pig in shit if they just go back it being Umbrella.

This actually looks like what I wanted to see out of an RE8. It basically looks like some sort of unholy hybrid of RE7, which I thought was an interesting foundation for a better sequel, RE4 and REMake.

This looks way more interesting than the Announcement trailer and it's specifically stating they will be 'upping the ante on Action a bit' which I'm all in for. Looks pretty great so far to me.

Mia makes it through 7? Guess I should have kept playing. I stopped a few hours after you “killed” her

She does indeed live - I would explain how and why but not sure if you want the spoilers.

I don’t mind. My back log is so big i doubt I go back to it before 8 so I’ll just end up YouTubing 7’s story haha

The house actually isn't terribly long either, and the game gets significantly less scary from there, or at least I thought so. Kind of a shame in a way, but if you found the house overwhelming then getting out kind of eases that tension.  I do wonder if we'll ever see another Resident Evil that can properly take place almost 100% in a single interior location. The "big building at the start" parts are usually the best bits, I'd kill for an RE that was mostly just the best part. Like RE4 the village was by far the best part, which I assume this is trying to replicate. I always liked the later parts of RE4 less. It wasn't just setting or anything, the first areas feel so carefully designed, and then it becomes more and more simplistic and linear as you proceed.

I never played 7 cuz I am not a fan of FPS single player games, or FPS Horror games (I think First Person is basically just inferior all around with some exceptions), but 8 is looking interesting.

ALL games should be in first-person.

You must hate real life existence then!

I got to the part where the old dude follows you and you can’t kill him. I got scared then annoyed.

I hope this is more like RE4. The only RE game I beat.

You can definitely put the old dude down for a while, even though you can't kill him. He leaves you alone (or at least stops following you) after the house.

I remember putting him down and searching rooms only for home to keep coming. I went through all my ammo and died.  I dislike unkillable baddies that stalk you in video games which is a staple in RE unfortunately

If you played on PC just get infinite ammo.

I've never played Resident Evil 7 either but that's mainly because the price never dropped low enough. Also, PC never got VR support right?

I watched a couple of people streaming playing the beginning part at the house and I've played the demo which is the house but it never got my nuts boiling to play the game.

This is completely accurate. As someone who beat it just a month or so ago the tension and dread in the beginning is thick. It was hard for the first few hours to muster on, but eventually you do leave the house and things do become less scary but I found the entire game very involving. First person is way scarier than third person, as much as I enjoyed the RE2 and RE3 remakes.

Survey posted, sound off.

Just did the survey, and they left out one very important perspective. Most of the questions were so focused on what I was interested in or what I would want to see more of... none of them asked what would cause me to LOSE interest, or what I wanted to see LESS of.

I'm a huge RE fan and have been since 1998. I will play any RE game you throw at me. I won't always like them, as obviously there have been a few stinkers over the years, but I'm always interested and excited for them. It doesn't take much in the way of marketing for me to anticipate the next RE game. I hate it when polls and surveys don't leave any room for negative or constructive feedback.

Honestly thinking on it now, this whole survey is just basically a questionnaire on how they should market the game to us, not on any design decisions, which are probably solidified by now. So it kinda makes my own argument moot.

It's not like they'll magically add Resident Evil 4 combat even if 90% of all people taking the survey want it, yeah, so I'm not sure what the point is outside of providing guidance on marketing and/or if they'll release a demo as you said.

Then again I believe every Resi release this gen received a demo so far anyway.
