The Snyder Cut is real...and it's SPECTACULAR!

Part III: This time... it’s personal

This Flash bullshit is super cringey. He’s tenderly brushing aside the hair of a woman who is just docilely flying through the air after a car crash? WTF is this actual shit. And because Snyder, the car fucking explodes in the background while the two of them sweetly look at one another. I assume everyone’s fine, but who knows.

The cut from Victor learning how to Cyborg to holding the Mother Box was... odd.

It’s... a weird time in the world to leave in an unnecessary bit where police commissioner tosses his messages in the trash.

The underwater fight scenes are pretty cool.

I dunno, this whole segment feels like it could have been cut down by 60% and we’d have lost nothing of value.

I saw Batman vs Superman in the theater and it was bad then and even with rifftrax it is still bad. I have real low expectations for This edit of Justice League I thought the theatrical version was ok but felt like someone trying to fix an of the rails movie.

1 hour and 51 minutes into the movie. Let’s look at the scoreboard before the next segment.

Batman: Hasn’t done a ton, but he hasn’t killed any people which is more than I can say for...

Wonder Woman: Straight up caved in the skulls of some terrorists, blew up a person and a building for no fucking reason, then told a girl she could do the same when she grew up, and I gotta wonder how she would have answered that question if she had the lasso of truth tied to her wrist

Aquaman: Angrily saved a fisherman who was risking his life to fish after the movie told us that these people starve without his help. Also he regularly comes out of the water wearing a shirt, then takes his shirt off before going back into the water. Does this small fishing village have an H&M, or does he have a dolphin fetch it for him? I want to know

Flash: Lovingly caressed a stranger without her consent as she was flying through the air, not terrified for no reason other than that Flash’s actions would seem be seen for how awful they are if she was screaming for dear life, then let a car explode near civilians

Cyborg: Used his technical omnipotence to help a civilian, so far the only hero to have done so without casualties or asking for whiskey as payment two hours into the runtime. So far, he’s the only hero that has looked better in this cut than the original

Lois Lane: Is definitely in the movie

Star Labs: Security is so bad that the room they use to store a Kryptonian ship has no ceiling, and absolutely nobody seems especially concerned with the fact that several employees have been kidnapped. Also one of their employees really likes Good Will Hunting. “YOU LIKE BATS?” *slaps drawing on glass” “WELL HOW DO YOU LIKE THIS DRAWING OF A BAT?”

Mercedes Benz: Honestly looking great

Amazons: Taking a lot of L’s, tough look for Team Lady Bezos. Queenie can shoot an arrow across a goddamned ocean but is she going to lift a horse off of her dying friend? No, honestly who has the time. Shoutout to the arm routine of that one Amazon who smashed the support column, she was taken away from us far too soon. Also thanks to the big Rise of Skywalker energy where we’ve got an object that slots into another object that leads to a secret room where one of the characters learns something. This is the second movie with Wonder Woman where the Amazons REALLY should have given Diana a better download about the world before letting her leave

Superman: One has to wonder if this movie would even be happening if he died just a LITTLE quieter

Green Lantern: My guy, you have a ring that turns your creativity into power. You’re fighting for your life and all you’ve got for the forces of earth is, “PEW PEW PEW PEW” Who are you, me playing a Star Wars RPG? The only thing worse than a beam fight is one fucking beam

Editing: YIKES

Steppenwolf: Better in this cut so far. One wonders how Batman has Flash, Cyborg, and Aquaman on camera but he somehow doesn’t get any kind of google alert about a huge, evil, red egg emerging from a former nuclear plant, but hey, Steppenwolf’s security is better than Star Labs, he has a fucking roof

I just finished it up. I have to say, it was pretty good! The earlier gif kind of covers it:

200.gif

My wife, who along with me hated Batman v Superman, really enjoyed this. She's typically very harsh and gave this an 8/10! Damn. Even I was surprised. I have to say, this was a lot of fun. Well made, etc. The first 1.5 hours are the roughest I think while he establishes characters, uses slow mo for each of their introductions, and cringey/not cringey songs depending on the character. A lot of cool fan service, everything makes sense and is explained, and cool easter eggs too. An enormous step up from Batman v Superman and Justice League theatrical cut. Acting is good for the most part, dialogue is good for the most part, the action is mostly banging, and the film ends really strong. I think @skillzdadirecta covered it pretty well.

@Kal-El814 you really needed to watch Batman v Superman for answers to some of your questions (sadly haha). (1) Batman knows a threat is coming and wants to put a team together due to his dream/vision of the "Knightmare" sequence in BvS. Lex Luthor is wading in the Kryptonian scout ship pool because that's where the police find him when they arrest him in BvS - that's why he knows Steppenwolf is coming, the ship was telling him so once Superman's death scream alerts the Mother Boxes that Earth's primary protector is dead. Luthor tells Batman in prison at the end of BvS that the "bell has been rung" which solidifes Batman wanting to put together a team as to him it confirms his dream/vision as something that is happning/coming.

Also, while I think overall your live blog has been fair (seriously, no hate!) you are criticizing the movie for things it never intended to do. You're either on board Snyder's characterizations of these characters or not, but being surprising Wonder Woman is gonna kill people or Aquaman is gonna be cold and gruff and a misanthrope is silly since that's baked in. I think you're spending too much time finding what's wrong with the film rather than what it does right, but to each their own.

TL;DR - I suggest people watch it. It's an actively good, maybe even great movie and a lot of fun for the most part. I felt no scene was unnecessary and I enjoyed spending time in this world. It is by no means an amazing or perfect film, but definitely worth spending an afternoon/night watching. At the end of the day it's still a silly comic book film but within that context it had a surprisingly logical plot that followed from one point to the next. :)

Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Eat shit Taiki Waititi and Thor Ragnarok, the superhero comedy crown has been taken from your head after Wonder Woman caved in its skull.

See - stuff like that strikes me as a bit petty - my wife and I watched the scene and didn't give it a second thought. Like, you can freeze frame lots of things in lots of movies and out of context it'd be ridiculous. But again, to each their own. :)

Ah I forgot that part. I thought it had but cut out of this cut of Justice League, honestly BvS and JL bleed together for me. Thanks!

I’m not serious about that, it’s just a goofy still shot :p

That scene sucks though, Barry’s a fucking creep.

Hahaha, fair enough! I understand BvS and Justice League blurring together but don't let it happen since JL is now leagues better than BvS lol. Also, Ezra Miller kills it the rest of the movie so forgive him one creepy indulgence! :p

At least you're giving the movie a chance - that's cool and level headed. :)

To be fair, that scene was creepy no matter HOW you slice it. The hot dog makes it even creepier

It is, but it's for all of 5 seconds so my wife and I didn't really note it. But, yeah, in retrospect, it definitely is. The scene after where she realizes he saved her life is funny and sweet though since he bolts back to the job he's failing to get. :p  But I'm with you on that one. You were very fair to the movie, I liked your take. :) I think I liked it more than you but I'm more of a Snyder fan and my expectations were pretty low so maybe that boosted it even more for me. A lot of cool DC shit was in there for both of us at least which I felt didn't feel forced or crammed in!

Yeah, it was one of like 3 scenes I did not like. I understand what he was trying to do but it would have been better to have him . . . do something else. Totally agree. But hey! He's in there! It may have been the only bit of fan service I didn't like. :p

Spoiler

Though it was redeemed with his scene at the end at least.

PART IV: The Quest for Peace

Why are they slowly taking the stairs, LUL.

This fight scene is still cool. I miss Batman mentoring Flash a little though, I liked that part of the original cut.

Now I feel like I need to go back and watch the flashback fight again... I don’t know why Darkseid seems surprised the anti-life is on earth? Wasn’t he standing on it? I must have missed something?

”It’s a long story.” Two hours+ into a 4 hour movie. Yeah, Vic, we know. :p

I do sincerely enjoy that in both the MCU and the DCU, heroes love to use their abilities to make really sophisticated presentations. The Ancient One and Hulk’s Infinity Stone riff, Cyborg just making a Superman cartoon for everyone to watch. It’s great.

I need to think about how I feel about that cameo. I guess it’ll depend on how things go at the end.

Also the whole “Mother Boxes knew Superman was dead” thing... come on now. If they’re smart enough to know a Kryptonian died they should have been smart enough to know that there were no Kryptonians on the planet for thousands of years. The whole “why now” thing didn’t need an explanation, this is just dumb.

PART V: The Final Frontier (lol it’s not)

Batman and Wonder Woman knew Superman... letting Flash and Victor exhume him feels mean.

Force majeure brand pregnancy tests is a fucking riot, LOL. And as we all know, women keep pregnancy tests in their bedside table, where they pee.

Shouts to the Justice League for letting Clark Kent’s personal effects fall into Kryptonian sludge, treating them with the same respect I treat Taco Bell wrappers.

I still think the fight against Superman is goofy and just there for SFX porn. It’s unnecessary, especially in a 4 hour cut where we’ve had a lot of action so far. Also Lois just out there name dropping Clark in front of the police and the army is something. Not a great Lois movie, honestly. :p

At least Batman helped a soldier up and checked to see if he’s okay.

Do you like those stupid stylized subtitles you see in marvel movies that pop out of the character and stuff?

I've never seen a Marvel movie but based on that description alone it sounds even worse.

Now it all makes sense, Xbob is just a curmudgeonly old man, just like me! I'm just not quite to his level ... YET!

Not quite, my dad just loved his super loud bass when I was growing up, which I'm 100% sure damaged my hearing permanently.

I would just like to point out that while some of you are watching the Snyder Cut, Another Round is now streaming on Hulu.  It’s less than two hours long and as far as I can tell is just about Mads Mikkelsen being drunk.  You have chosen... poorly.

I've already seen it, it's fantastic.

It's true - my wife wanted to rewatch the Whedon cut because she wanted to compare and while some of the scenes and dialogue are solid, almost everything else about it is worse, from the short runtime to the choppy editing to the terrible color grading and the sheer pettiness of Whedon choosing alternate angles and shots for scenes just so they don't count as Snyder's choices even when Snyder's choice was better. Hell, Whedon renamed the island they mention that goes under Gotham Harbor from Stryker Island to Baxter Island because . . . why? :p

Hmm it is free to watch on Crave. Maybe I will give this a shot. Like I mentioned before I never watched the theatrical cut so I should do that as well to compare. I hated Batman v Superman, but maybe I'll even subject myself to the extended cut just to see how it compares to what I remember. Hell while I'm in a mood for getting myself, I never saw Suicide Squad either! Was there a director's cut of that movie ever?

Suicide Squad indeed has an extended cut. It is better than the theatrical cut. Not good per se, but fun and stupid and silly I thought upon a recent rewatch.
