New Chappelle Netflix Special is... Really Unfunny

From my understanding He left the show not so much for the jokes he was telling but more so on how his jokes where perceived by some that saw it as a re-enforcement of stereotypes  instead of pointing out the flaws and making humorous the situations. I watched the new stand up I just said there where parts that made me uncomfortable where other stand up of his did not. I also look forward to what he does next.

That was part of it... he had some problems with some of his staff and the network on how some of his material was being viewed... he no longer felt like he was TELLING jokes but that he WAS the joke. He touches on this a little but in the special when he talks about his dealings with Standards and Practices. Also the 30 million dollar deal he signed seemed good AT FIRST... then you realized that it was for like 9 years exclusive to Comedy Central and several feature films. There was a lot going on back then.

Watching his special I didn't come away thinking he was anti-pc... he was anti-overly sensitive people and people who don't get "jokes". Jerry Seinfeld has said the same thing and has said he wouldn't want to do comedy in today's day and age. THAT is what Chappelle was poking fun at... and out of curiosity, why do you guys think he left his show? I know why he left but I'm curious as to what people think he left his show for and how it contradicts what he did in this special?

Different topic probably but I thoroughly enjoy what an unapologetically ornery fucker Jerry Seinfeld is. I really dig Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. His misanthropy is supremely entertaining to me.

Skillz doesn’t like that a gay man is speaking his truth so he’s pretending I don’t exist.

It’s disturbing that he’s shutting me out of a conversation about a straight comic’s material about LGBT people. It shows that he doesn’t care about what we think, only if it aligns with his own views.

I’ve tried to forgive and ask for his forgiveness in return but he refuses to forgive me and he’s currently treating me like an unperson. At least the rest of this board can now see his bigotry on full display.

Skillz, yesterday I made a post where I apologized said I didn’t think you were a bad person, but now I’m questioning whether I was being too charitable towards you. Please prove to me that my goodwill towards you wasn’t hastily made.

Skillz uses his own gay family memebers a shield to protect himself from accusations that he’s homophobic. He doesn’t see us as people, he sees us as props. Even his own family.

He would rather pretend that I don’t exist then defend his own beliefs.

I don’t care if we disagree,  but I do care that he refuses to engage with me on any level because he doesn’t see me as worthy enough to respond to.

I mean, he could just have you on ignore. I mean, even I have one person on ignore. I don't see any of their content unless they get quoted.

I feel like if a prominent and prolific member of this board is going to ignore me simply for being a vocal gay man then I have no reason to post here anymore. It’s like I’ve been shut out from a large part of any conversation on here. He’s trying to push me out of here. He wants to silence me.

I mean, if you really feel that because one person has you on ignore then 🤷‍♂️. I am sure people have me on ignore and I really don't care. Sure, it wouldn't be for your reason, but still. The only part of any convo you won't be a part of is directly with him. You can still talk with everyone else, even in the topics he creates. You just can't talk to him. You can still talk about anything he posts too, he just won't see it if he has you ignored. One person having you on ignore shouldn't be that big of a deal. Like, he really is just another poster. That's it. He isn't a mod nor does he own the site. Maybe if all the "staff" had you on ignore I can see the reason for you being upset. In the context of D1P, Skillz is just one person out of like 50 others. it ain't the end of the world unless you make it so.

I am gonna throw my 2 cents out here. You can take or leave it, you can ignore me or tell me to blow it out my ass, pick your poison.

Your posts come off as overly aggressive and you post like an asshole. Posting over and over in the same thread trying to call him out for whatever the slight maybe derails what ever paper thin subject we may be talking about. If you feel so deeply about it, the speak to the current gestapo @SFLUFANand he will end it. Or take it to IM's Your not doing much for your cause by posting like a petulant child.

Honestly why do you give a fuck if hes ignoring you? Ignore him and move on, this isnt high school folks.

Not knowing Skillz personally, and only having limited interactions here (usually on the receiving end of a caustic response), I find difficult to think that he is homophobic enough to ignore you just for speaking your homosexual truths.

Not knowing how putting someone on ignore works (not something I would do), shoot him a PM, don’t try and make a public display, if it goes through, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get a thorough response.

Didn't Chappelle quit his show in part because he's kind of a conspiracy nut, and thought that the "powers that be" needed to bring down a successful black man a peg, and wanted to immasculate him by making him do skits in drag, which he didn't want to do?

Is that what you heard from your acquaintances, @skillzdadirecta

All I know is he was smoking a LOT of weed at the time and was very paranoid...

@sexy_shapiro I didn't know you apologized yesterday because I didn't see it and wasn't made aware of it until this morning. I accept your apology and hope you focus more on getting well and removing yourself from that unhealthy environment you're in than on what I think. Believe me I'm not worth it... no one is worth your own mental health. I refused to engage with you, as I said last week, not because you're gay, but because your mind seems to be made up about me and I really and truly do not care to change it. It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with you being gay and everything to do with life being too short for me to be worrying about what a stranger on the internet thinks of me. I really hope for the best for you and hope you can get out of where you are as soon as you can I really do... but please, just go your way and let me go mine. I don't want to have to defend my character here... a place I really just come to to waste time when I'm not out and talk about shit that most of my real life friends don't care about. This WILL be the last time I address this here or anywhere else :peace:

Finally watched it last night annnndddd...I genuinely don't see how this is much different from his last few specials. It's not fantastic like his old shit but generally I like Chappelle so much, kind of like Seinfeld, where I enjoy listening to them tell a story, rant or whatever. I get that's not everyone's cup of tea but I honestly just didn't think it was much different or worse than his last few.

That being said, I thought the LGBT bit fell completely flat not because of the subject matter but because the actual material just...wasn't funny nor nearly as intricate as some of his usual jokes. The quality of the writing and "scenario" he set up felt jarring within the context of the rest of the show in terms of quality.

I did think pretty much all the other bits were fucking funny and I laughed out loud quite a bit. I've been a big stand-up fan since the early 2000's and have been to the Comedy Cellar plenty and I don't even think this material was particularly wild or edgy myself.

You go to the Cellar? I've been there a couple of times... a REAL good friend of my is very active in the New York comedy scene right now. She performs at The Cellar and other comedy clubs all over the city. I saw her at Carolines earlier this year.

I used to go there a lot around mid to late 2000's but haven't really been since. I really liked that era, I guess, of comedy and had a lot of fun. Remember also when Comedy Central had killer stand-up specials? Whenever I see the lineups now, nothing rings a bell and I'm not that interested anymore unfortunately. I recently saw Dave Attell do a seriously boring, washed-up set (not at the Cellar).

Can I PM you for her name? Obviously not gonna be like "yo I know this poster on a video game board who says he knows ya!" just curious if I see her name pop up.

Edit: Just checked Carolines lineup for the first time in years since you reminded me and Norm McDonald is doing sets there in November. I don't know what he's up to these days but he used to be one evil, witty fucker and I'm curious.

Yeah P.M. me... she's very active on social media and is always looking to broaden her audience.
