What non-military targets could they feasibly go after? Or, I guess what is the US non-military presence in Iraq?

Oil companies? That’s all I can think of.

The Iranians have been shooting rockets at US military targets since last year, but firing from Iranian territory is certainly a bold step forward. Hopefully we don’t ratchet it up further.

Besides the dopey assassination that started this current series of events, this hasn’t really been the case with his military actions to my recollection.

CNN is reporting from a source in the Iraqi security force that the current situation at Al Asad is confirmed Iraqi casualties only. Assessments are on going.

This thinking, however, relies on Trump being the pragmatic and ignoring this attack. In any other administration, this would be the start of a new war.

I don’t understand the second sentence. The action by Iran hasn’t really been that severe by what we know thus far.

A few of the talking heads I’ve seen are suggesting the choice of attack sites may also have been meant to signal to the Iraqi government that they need to stay out of whatever happens between the US and Iran.

One Nation openly attacking another is basically a declaration of war for all intents and purposes.

They didn’t attack the US, they attacked Iraqi sites. This is actually the sort of thing that gives the more powerful nation an out to not further escalate.
