Commissar SFLUFAN
Arizona abortion rights amendment backers says they've gathered signatures needed for 2024 ballot WWW.NBCNEWS.COM First to NBC News: Arizona for Abortion Access says it’s exceeded the state petition signature threshold by over 120,000, with plans to keep gathering until a July 3 deadline. Quote Groups working to put reproductive rights in Arizona’s state constitution say they have exceeded the signature threshold to put a constitutional amendment on abortion on the state’s ballot in November. Arizona for Abortion Access, a coalition of reproductive rights organizations including the ACLU of Arizona and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, says it had gathered 506,892 petition signatures as of this past weekend, with more than three months to go until the July 3 deadline to submit the signatures to Arizona’s secretary of state. The threshold to put a measure on the ballot is 383,923 signatures, and while some typically get invalidated in the verification process, the amendment appears on track to go before voters this fall. “This is an issue that people are eager to see on the ballot,” said Cheryl Bruce, the campaign manager for Arizona for Abortion Access. “As our volunteers are out collecting, people are coming up to them, folks are coming up to them and wanting to sign this petition,” said Bruce. “They want to see access to abortion restored in the state of Arizona,” she added. 1 1

marioandsonic
The only big, BIG potential downside is, what if this isn't enough? What if Trump still wins, and the GOP get control of Congress? We're fucked if that happens

SaysWho?
Arizona abortion ruling, which Democrats decry, splits Republicans and abortion opponents - ABC News ABCNEWS.GO.COM The Arizona Supreme Court's decision Tuesday to uphold a 160-year old ban has drawn differing reactions from state Republicans as Democrats vow to fight it Quote Republican strategist Barrett Marson called the ruling "ground-shifting" for Arizona politics and argued the decision will reverberate through November's elections, even if lawmakers do meet in the meantime for a special session to change the law amid public fallout. "The Arizona Supreme Court ruling may be a huge victory for the pro-life movement in Arizona, it will be short term. The decision will only bring out more voters in 2024 to approve the abortion initiative and likely vote for Democratic candidates," Marson said in a series of posts on X on Tuesday. "When [Gov. Katie] Hobbs calls a special session to open access to abortion and repeal the 1864 law, Republicans will be in a difficult spot." Quote Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego, expected to face Lake in the Senate race in the fall, seized on her previously calling the pre-statehood ban a "great law" and sent a fundraising pitch to supporters reminding them that as a senator he would vote to end the filibuster rule as a means to protect abortion access nationwide, unlike Lake. "This is not what Arizonans want, and women could die because of it," Gallego said in a statement. "Yet again, extremist politicians like Kari Lake are forcing themselves into doctors' offices and ripping away the right for women to make their own healthcare decisions," adding he's "committed to doing whatever it takes to protect abortion rights at the federal level."
