TwinIon Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Quote The Quest 2 sports a SnapDragon XR2 processor, according to the videos, a significant upgrade from the Snapdragon 835 that was adapted for the Quest from mobile phones. Chipmaker Qualcomm says the XR2 can provide two times the CPU & GPU performance, four times the pixel throughput, and 11 times the AI operations per second, compared to the 835. That extra power goes in part toward an "almost 4K display" on the Quest 2 with nearly 2K resolution per eye, according to the video. That's a nearly 50 percent increase in raw pixel count over the original Quest, making it "the highest-resolution headset we've ever made). The new headset also sports an upgrade to 6GB of RAM (up from 4GB on the original) and will come in configurations with up to 256GB of storage. The headstrap has been redesigned as a "new soft touch strap" while the Oculus Touch controllers have been "updated with new ergonomics," according to the videos. Ars I've wanted a quest for a while, but thanks to limited availability and its marginal benefits over my OG Rift, I never jumped on it. Between the 3080 and PS5 though, it's probably not the best time to drop the expected $400. Edit: It's official It's already been reviewed. Pre-orders start today, releases Oct 13th. $299 for the 64GB, $399 for 256GB Quote
Stickey Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 Got my Quest 6 weeks ago lol. Had I known it was going to be this big of an upgrade I probably would have waited. Kinda moot anyways since my PC can barley run PCVR games, doubling the resolution wouldn't have helped lol. Quote
Zaku3 Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 I feel at this point it's best to wait for a new Index. Quote

Alteenatively someone is bound to have a high/mid range card that you can have. This reminds me I need to see if my friends need a card. Quote

silentbob Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 I just bought mine beginning of April. Maybe I can sell it off to my cousin (who’s husband loves it) or to my buddy to have. This seems like a great upgrade, as the video source I did find slightly soft on current Quest systems. It’s good but I think the updated resolution should look amazing Quote

Not really a huge deal since your phone has been collecting a TON of data for the last 10 years. Fact is, in order for VR to be mainstream, something like this is very important to the success of VR. Yes, facebook, along with EVERY internet giant needs to give us the option for our data rights, but thats only going to happen in congress. Quote
Guest Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 I’m in. I don’t think I’ll ever get a VR headset that isn’t wireless after going Quest 1. Hopefully they improve Link play for those handful of times I want to play a high end PC only title. Quote
TheLeon Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Maybe by the time this drops, I’ll be ready to drop the cash on a VR headset. Quote

TwinIon Posted September 16, 2020 Author Posted September 16, 2020 Road to VR says that the screen door effect is "basically invisible," which is quite the endorsement. The first party straps look nice, though I really wish they'd put better audio in the elite strap. How much storage do quest games actually take up? I feel like 64GB would be sufficient but I'm not really sure. Quote
Guest Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 Ordered the 256gb model. Looking forward to seeing the improvements! Quote

Spork3245 Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 What's the FOV on this? The OG Quest/Quest S is really narrow. Quote

Rev Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 If I could sell my old one for like 200 I could get this one maybe. But my old one is only the 64gb model and there's a small crack on one of my controllers (it still works fine). Quote

Hopefully more good coop games come out haha Quote
Amazatron Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Yeah, the pricing on this one pretty much kills the resale value of the OG Quest. Might just give it to a family or friend if I get the Quest 2. Quote
Jason Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Zero interest given that they're going to force you to log in with a Facebook account in a couple of years. Also apparently the battery is only good for two hours at a time. Quote

Also apparently the battery is only good for two hours at a time. You are forced if you haven't created an Oculus account already, even so, with the new headsets its a requirement. There are ways to attach an external battery, and in some cases it works out better for the balance of the headset on your head (not so front heavy). I get 5ish hours with my external battery, more than enough. Quote
Stickey Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 Quest 2 is capable, and runs better at 120hz say Carmack Quote

DPCyric Posted September 24, 2020 Posted September 24, 2020 I thought it was weird no one was talking about this didn't expect the thread to be in the PC area since it is a standalone device. I'm planning on getting one and I would like to note Costco has a bundle with the elite strap for $430! Quote
Spork3245 Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 WHY DIDN'T THEY INCREASE THE FOV??? AHHHHHHHH... I really want one Quote
thedarkstark Posted September 25, 2020 Posted September 25, 2020 It looks great but I'm not really interested in buying anything owned by facebook. I'll wait to see with the next valve and htc offerings bring. Quote
