If there is a multi platform VR game, and you have a highly capable gaming rig, would it be better to by the game on steam and use VD or oculus store?

I would generally suggest getting the Steam version unless it's something you want really easy access to. There isn't a ton of storage on the device so just keep stuff like Rez, Tetris Effect and Until You Fall at the ready.

Is it entirely possible for someone to have signed up for facebook when it was a cool thing and then it degenerated into shit over the years?

That time never existed FB wasn't cool back then just an annoyance to anyone who was already established online.

So up until yesterday I have played VR sitting down and thought I had strong VR legs... I was wrong playing standing up is only working for about the length of the Superhot VR demo. I need to start playing standing up some more Superhot seems like a good game to start with (felt a little easier than Until You Fall standing did). I'm honestly surprised it was such a big difference because I was still standing in one spot.

I used Recroom to become accustom to the VR feel. I have noticed I stand differently in VR then normally. I will typically have my right foot extended out a bit with my left a little back. I feel this helps keep my balance for those moments where you get off balanced. You could also practice drunk! Be carful though!

Yep. I'm one of the OG edu people too. The good ol days.

But now after my dad died all my extended family keep sending me friend requests.

And this changes what?  What about linking to your fb account does this prohibit you from doing anything at all?
Im curious because I don’t know?  How does linking a fb account change anything?

It's kind of a weird phenomenon because if you really hate Facebook, it seems intuitive that you wouldn't own a Facebook account. And if you don't own a Facebook account already, then the FB/Oculus issue shouldn't affect you much, because you can set up a new (your only) Facebook account and keep it completely free of anything social without breaking the TOS and it's indistinguishable from just having an Oculus account in terms of extra data they have to sell or whatever.

Here's my worry and the one I'm dealing with right now. I had a Facebook account and I'm worried that trying to create a new one will just reactivate my old one. I guess I can create a burner email address for it, but that sounds awful when it comes to do stuff like reset passwords or whatever.

It might be my best bet because the only other VR headset that night be good and not pushing a grand is the upcoming HP Reverb G2.

If also really rather not give Facebook any of my money, so...I guess I'll wait to see what reviews for the Reverb G2 look like.

Burner accounts will get your accounts banned, it's against FB's TOS. The HP Reverb will be WELL worth it and it's only a couple hundred more.

Boooo...

I guess Facebook just really wants verified real people whose data they can to be unresponsible with. Cool.

Yeah, I'll wait for the Reverb G2.

Thanks I downloaded it and maybe will do some 360 videos standing as well.

You know I wouldn't be too surprised to see Gamepass Ultimate releasing on the Quest soon... With Microsoft recently selling Mixer to FB it's clear they have a working relationship and it would be a big draw to the Quest.

When i am walking in VR I try and just walk in place as much as possible and it seems to help a lot. I also do the head bob as I walk...looks ridiculous but it helps my inner ear.

Flight sims are still my achilles heel unless it's set in space.   Doing an Immelmann makes me gut check pretty hard because the eyes and inner ear dont want to agree which probably makes things worse

I’m actually surprised at how easily I was able to adapt to this headset. My previous experience with VR was primarily the PSVR, which made me nauseous almost instantly, no matter what I was doing.

The low resolution and overall blurriness of PSVR compared to the Quest 2 was likely a catalyst for your nausea

Ya'll weren't kidding when you said the elite strap is so much better...

The ability to click in and out makes it a ton easier to get a good fit.

Not sure if you want to spend the big bucks but the Super Elite with battery is even better...that battery adds a nice automatic counterweight....but I'm sure you'll see a lot of mods on ETSY and Amazon soon with even more comfortable straps/facemasks for cheap

I’d avoid the battery strap simply because it’s a ton of money for a pretty small battery. Better to just buy a battery, imo, as you can get one that will fully charge the quest like 3 times for around 60$ and if you want a counterweight it’s easy enough to make one (I don’t think it helps much with the elite strap).

Yeah, I was looking at that battery strap, but I really don’t see myself playing games on this thing for that long that I would need that. I have decent portable charger that would get the job done if I want to watch movies in bed or something.

I finally set up my Quest 2, and I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed.  Games I have purchased for my regular Oculus Rift, that also have a Quest version, aren't automatically given to you.  You need to rebuy the same damn game again for Quest.  Beat Saber specifically at least.  I guess they have a Cross Buy mode which some games support, but how the hell is my Oculus account not just synced and games that support both aren't automatically carried over.

Sours me on the entire Oculus ecosystem a lot more than the Facebook account shit.

I've been warning people! You can still play those games via Virtual Desktop off of your PC.

Tried upping the resolution with this, holy crap the virtual home environments look crisp as hell. Gaming seemed a bit spotty in terms of performance when I tried a few briefly (Red Matter was even more gorgeous, Beat Saber had a bit of lag, Table Tennis was unplayable), I'll play around more with the settings later.

So I just moved around some while playing Until You Fall and that solved my problems :dancing: I played a few runs then sat down for some Rez, checked out Echo Arena and the demo for TRIPP (which I rather enjoyed). Took my battery down from 100% to 35% I need the elite battery strap!

I would like more info on upcoming games it seems hard to find coverage even in the reddits. Is there any good VR news site?

I've talked to Jeff Minter's partner and he is currently porting Moose Life to the Quest then after that Polybius!!! I really hope at some point Llamasoft gives us a proper VR music visualizer.

I typically keep up with VR news from Youtube. I'll list a few channels that are good with weekly updates.

I played the demo for Journey of the Gods and it is charming AF! I will be picking this one up at some point. Got a decent game of Echo Arena scored 2 points and I feel like I will be playing it a lot more. Also on a good run in Until You Fall had one of the heavier enemies almost wipe me out, got a health refill at the end of the stage and then proceeded to dominate the next enemy of that type :buttsex:

Looks like the average size of Quest stand-alone games is, what, 2-4GB, is that right?  Seems like the 64GB version would be more than enough for these games, as the more demanding ones I want to play via Virtual Desktop anyway.  Is this the general consensus?

The Quest 2 will bring larger titles eventually. I need a new router myself but my shoddy 5gz signal does well enough for the moment. Not sure if its my router or not, but I've noticed better visuals/brightness playing Population One directly from the headset applying higher textures compared to the PC version over VD. Again not sure if that has to do with my router or not. So its really a mixed bag.

I try to buy Steam first, UNLESS its cross buy with the PC/rift version, OR its a game I would like to take on the go to show family where I cant use a pc. This is the way.

Look for a router with 3 channels. Mine has 2 5 Ghz networks, and I have one set to Wifi 6 and the Quest is the only device on it.
