I see similar stuff like this pretty regularly. You'd be surprised how many people neglect their health to the point of ignoring necrotic body parts.

I wonder how many of those cases are due to just not giving a shit, and how many are because of how much they would cost to fix.

For sure. That's a thing even here.

Try taking care of a dude who left gauze dressings on his rotting legs for three months without changing them. As in, I was the admitting, so I got them when they were "fresh." Yeah, that was an hour of work and I had to leave some for surgical debridement. Fun times. He could afford to do "important work" on his laptop, but couldn't afford more gauze.

Both my parents and both my younger brothers are all doctors. Trust me - @CastlevaniaNut18 is right - it's a pretty good mix. My heart goes out to all those who can't get health care - it's a good bit of people. But people are also really dumb.

I mean . . . let's look at how people have talked about food on this very board. I have receipts bitches. Clearly people are stupid about their health.

I'll be honest; I'm like this.  Necrosis would of course get me in, but yeah. I'll ignore pain until it affects range of motion. I'll go years without seeing a doctor when I really should probably. Hell, I won't even call in sick to work unless I'm damn near immobile.

For me it's mostly a matter of convenience. For example I tore my rotator cuff and it was almost 2 months of appointments, taking time off work, multiple imagings, etc. between injury and being able to get the surgery scheduled. I don't have time for that. I broke my foot and never even had it looked at because the pain was less cumbersome to me than the hassle I knew having it treated would be. :/ If I knew I could spend one day getting examined and treated it'd be way more likely to engage with healthcare, but that just isn't the case where I am.

It looks like a watermelon sized burnt peach with a bite taken out of it in place of where someone's dick would be.

Intra-operative findings demonstrated a large abscess and sinus tract toward the left inguinal region, with areas of skin and subcutaneous necrosis. Foley catheter placement attempt proved to be difficult due to a buried penis, but was successfully accomplished by a dorsal slit procedure.

My issue is with going to the doctor always “is this serious enough to spend money on a doctor”?

My most recent health scare was a sprained ankle two years ago. The first day (Sunday), I felt a slight pain in my ankle and didn’t think anything of it, I thought I was sore from a run. By Wednesday I was hobbling and was practically begging for my foot to get cut off until the doctor told me it was just a sprained ankle and I was really embarrassed.

I ran ten miles less than two weeks later for the Broad Street Run.

Before that, I had this weird pain my ear that the doctor attributed to me grinding my teeth constantly. Hasn’t happened since now that I stopped grinding.

As I said, if it's a health insurance/cost related reason, then I sympathize.

Earlier this year, I got a tonsillectomy to try and help with my sleep apnea.  Since then, I've been sleeping better.

I recently went back to a sleep specialist, and they recommended me to participate in another sleep study to see how much it has improved, and whether or not further treatments are necessary.  But considering that a sleep study alone is a good few hundred even with insurance, not including however much any additional treatments would cost, I'm not sure I want to do it.

I'm suffering something similar with my ear! Hopefully it's the grinding.
