Speed - this movie is... basically perfect? I had seen it before as a kid, but at that time I mostly just excited that I was allowed to watch an R rated action movie.

It is a damn good flick with some wonderful pacing.

This morning I watched Honest Thief (or something like that, the latest Liam Nesson flick) It's a solid enough movie.

His Dark Materials - 9/10

I put off watching the HBO show because of how god awful the movie adaption was.  I get actively angry just thinking about it. But holy shit is the show great.  This is everything I could have ever hoped for from an adaption of these books. Can't wait for season 3.

Revenge of the Pontianak - 7/10

Unlike most Horror movies I've seen in recent years, the third act completely made this one for me. I also loved the setting and some of the cinematography and sets in the last act especially were great.

High Plains Drifter - 8.5/10

Love Spaghetti Westerns yet always missed this one, not that it's Italian but hey, close enough. I really knew nothing about it so I was quite surprised by how dark, violent and semi-supernatural it is. It meandered quite a bit at one point but the striking and gorgeous location, cinematography and eerie vibe more than made up for it. Soundtrack was fucking good too. I'll have to see this one again sometime.

Finally finished all of Warrior. The fact that that show only got 2 seasons should be considered a crime punishable by death.

I know there's still some hope that HBO could renew it. But(t) fuck me, what a show.

The problem is with renewals like that, there's every likelihood that the people working on the original have moved on. So even if HBO did renew it, maybe they wouldn't be able to get a lot of the same cast & crew back.

Hey @Greatoneshere , I know you're also a Lynch fan. Do you know anything about this fan edit of Dune??

I haven't seen the film in ages but I'm currently reading the Lynch book Room To Dream and I'm curious whether I should give this version a shot instead. Have you seen it?

I have not! I've only seen Lynch's theatrical cut. There's also a "TV version" with a much longer run time but because Lynch wasn't involved with its creation I never bothered to watch it since the director himself disowned the TV version even moreso than his own theatrical cut. He literally had his name removed from this TV version which adds 45 minutes of additional footage making the total film 3 hours long (apparently it is very bad, made by people who don't understand filmmaking or editing or film grammar). You can read about it here:

BLURAY.HIGHDEFDIGEST.COM

'The latest news on all things 4k Ultra HD, Blu-ray and Gear'

I'm a huge Dune book series fan first and foremost so Lynch's movie to me is mostly an abomination. It gets almost nothing right and since it's only 2 hours and 15 minutes long it rushes through everything. A fan edit that's much longer made by a Dune fan is something that's very interesting though! It sounds like he took all the footage in the TV edition (since this fan edit also runs 3 hours) and hopefully re-arranged it to make it better? If you do watch it please let me know, I'd be very curious. Have you seen the original theatrical cut and/or the TV edition?

I've only seen the Theatrical cut but seriously maybe twenty years ago by now almost on some shitty old VHS. The only thing I even recall is that I thought it was terrible and not even vaguely what I wanted from a Lynch movie. I also had no idea what Dune was so I was even more confused.

There's cool stuff in there if you are curious to do a rewatch with great picture and sound. I would suggest a rewatch just to confirm your worst suspicions haha. But yeah, it's not a good movie. And Dune is confusing, and the movie doesn't help that much, though I'm sure it would make more sense to you as an adult today than when you saw it 20 years ago.

I didn't even finish it back then so I'll probably revisit it as a curiosity just to accompany the book since I'm reading so much about Lynch's hatred of the thing.

And actually...I think I might watch this fan edit. People in the comments seem to REALLY dig it more so than I've ever seen as a reaction to something like this.

I think that would be interesting! Watch the theatrical cut then the fan-edit! If you do, definitely report back.

I'm planning on a full David Lynch filmography rewatch actually after the book. I've been wanting to introduce my girlfriend to his movies for a while now, especially because she's going into psychiatry haha.

Ah very nice! I did that a few years ago myself, it was a lot of fun.

The Lost Boys 4/5

Is there a revival for this film , I think this the second time it’s been mentioned in this thread ?

is this your first time watching it , if it is I’d be curious to know how the humor holds up.

I'm not sure if you mean revival as in are people trying to bring the movie back into the spotlight but there's been no recent movie, just:

The Lost Boys (1987)

Lost Boys: The Tribe (2008)

Lost Boys: The Thirst (2010)

There is a TV show that's been kicking around, they've made two pilots that have both been passed on. A third pilot is now in consideration as of January of this year, we'll see if it gets picked up.

Watched the following last night:

Bringing Out The Dead - 8.5/10

I had only seen bits and pieces of this seemingly quasi-forgotten Scorsese flick. Exceptionally dark even for Scorsese standards yet it again captures the bizarre mix of humanity and insanity that can be NYC sometimes. One of the main things I didn't care for is the somewhat frequent edgy 90s editing, it's a specific look I just can't stand. I loved the ending.

The Beyond - 5/10

I've seen this one quite a few times but always on dusty VHS copies so I figured let's check this out in HD. I used to really dig these types of no-logic, setpiece type Italian Horror flicks but just every Fulci movie especially boring at this point. I give this one a 5/10 just because I really like the dingy, dark sets and there is definitely some cool imagery and lighting going on here and there but that's about it.

I have also seen this (I've logged it anyway) but have no recollection of seeing it.

It's a loosely connected jumble of Horror set pieces vaguely set in Louisiana if that rings any bells. There's a painter who gets sort-of crucified in this hotel basement and then there's a gate to hell and there are zombies and a bunch of cool gore.

Ok looking deeper into this I saw it on DVD but it was called "Seven Doors of Death" and I believe I watched it with my girlfriend at the time  and we were both pretty disappointed in the movie. I remember watching it later just for laughs. :p

believe 7 Doors... is an even worse American edit of the film with a much worse soundtrack. As far as I recall at least. I think it's also censored, the original is extremely gory. Ironically the gore and soundtrack are the coolest parts.

Hmm yes, perhaps I should give the real version a chance at some point.
