A couple GEN-V cameos (lots of rumors circulating around who's the new Black Noir!!)

Trailer and promo posters look SICK and leading towards an epic confrontation mirroring our politics once again, and I'm so here for it!!

I'm interested to see what happens this season as it felt like they were running out of steam at the end of season 3. I haven't watched Gen V yet, maybe that changes things up.

Just rewatched season 3 because it's epic AF! In terms of "running out of steam", well let's unwrap that shall we:

  • Homelander openly killed a man so the fallout of that choice shall have to be addressed
  • Soon to be headpopper in chief is a major threat & moving all manner of pieces on the proverbial chessboard (alongside members of Gen-V)
  • Butcher is dying, his "Scorched Earth" tactic only got mainly his own people hurt in the process, luckily not killed. This season the odds may not be in their favor.
  • Black Noir IS dead ... yet he's back, what gives?

Let's not forget Kimiko & Frenchie's evolving relationship, Hughie may or may not be also suffering affects from Temp-V, A-Train is evolving continuously, The Deep has to die in an EPIC freaking way (because there is ZERO redemption for this POS), plus there's the matter of Homelander/Butcher's boy & how that all shakes out. Yeah we got a lot of meat on this bone still!

  • Commissar SFLUFAN changed the title to The Boys: Season 4 (Amazon Prime) - update (06/11): series to conclude with Season 5

The show has already had issues with spending big chunks of time kind of just spinning its wheels on story progression so I'm glad they can target going out on a high note instead of just doing more and more wheel spinning.

Lol. Just like Supernatural, right Eric?

Unlike a CW show, The Boys costs actual money to produce so I'm assuming it's more definitive. :p

The CW used to be notorious for being extremely loose on just renewing shows forever due to their very low ratings baseline for what constituted a successful show.

Touche. But when I saw the quote and who said it, I couldn't resist.

TBF, he left Supernatural after the amazing final and 5th season - it's just a shame we got 10 additional seasons of fan fiction. :p

Watched the first two. They were good. I dunno, mid life crisis on the nose Trump parody Homelander just feels a lot less interesting than secretly evil Homelander. Takes a lot away from the show for me. Still enjoy it though.

I've now seen the first three episodes and I'm digging the new season. It takes awhile to get things going but the character arcs for everyone seem to be heading in new directions (it's great to finally sink our teeth into both Kimiko's and Frenchie's tragic backstories instead of just hearing about it) and the ticking clock that Butcher is dealing with forces him to be a different kind of person than usual. You get a sense Eric Kripke and his team know they are aiming for five seasons since this feels like a penultimate season, setting up plotlines that will last this season and possibly next and there's a vague sense we're heading towards endgame since Homelander is more or less not secretly evil but out and open about it and that has changed the dynamic in the show significantly. The one issue is the show really can no longer sell the idea that Homelander wouldn't just kill all his enemies in secret now that he's open about who he is to a large degree given we've had two public deaths already it feels like he should have no qualms at this point.

Sooooo

Spoiler

Did Homelander lobotomize Sage and that’s why she was acting kinda dumb at the end of ep 3? Or did she lobotomize someone? (The bloody tool the camera panned to is used for lobotomies afaik)

Just to speculate, I think she is running a long game with what she's doing, manipulating Homelander and the rest of his team seems a trivial matter for her, she just has to approach each one of them differently.
