The Twitter app's cache will just keep growing, making it increasingly slow, and eventually you have to nuke the cache to get the performance back. This gets annoying since you wind up having to log back into your accounts and set some settings like your timeline mode (curated or chronological) back. But otherwise yeah it's fine.

Ah, so only noticeable if you REALLY use Twitter. I never spent more than a few minutes at a time, so I guess this never came up with me.

That, however, makes Elon's complaint make even less sense, but I had always assumed he didn't really know what he was talking about here.

“It will be extremely hard for Twitter to recover from here”

tl;dr: critical, critical entire teams have quit

Quote

Multiple “critical” engineering teams inside Twitter have now either completely or near-completely resigned, said another employee who requested anonymity to speak without Musk’s permission. For example, the team that maintains Twitter’s core system libraries that every engineer at the company uses is gone after Thursday. “You cannot run Twitter without this team,” the employee said.

My dad is convinced that Elon’s true goal is to destroy the company on purpose.

Looking at the foreign government financing those are certainly governments with an interest in killing an easy decentralized means for people to get the word out about things.

How so? I don’t use Android anymore but I never had a problem with Twitter on it

On desktop, you can easily view the parent of a reply/subthread, but it's difficult to do so on mobile. There are a few other reasons why the mobile app sucks, but that's the one that annoys me the most.

Also, classic forum layouts (chronological), like what D1P uses, is better than the layout Reddit uses in most cases.

The shittiness of going through big Twitter threads isn't unique to the Twitter app. I've said before that they need reddit-style expanding comment trees.

My mom has the same feeling with everything she keeps seeing/reading. Someone has to take over it if he burns everything to the ground, because they mentioned it’s essentially a public safety service for many governments around the world. Plus what has been happening in Ukraine and everything we see posted update wise is mostly because of Twitter. He wouldn’t do this to fuck Ukraine and help Russia. . . . right???

Twitter’s Musk says most-valuable employees can stay remote as many quit

The revision came as several Twitter employees said they were surprised by the large number of their colleagues who were opting to accept severance rather than sign a pledge to work harder.

I didn't even realize it came out at all. What did it come out on/is it still available anywhere?

I assume this is the series you're talking about...

When children across Washington, D.C., all start talking with the same imaginary friend named Drill, who persuades them to play dangerous games, the FBI calls in child specialist Claire Bennigan -- whose deaf son has been speaking to Drill, unbeknownst to her -- to investigate. Meanwhile, the defense department sends Wes Lawrence to the Sahara Desert, where he encounters a strange geological phenomenon. As puzzle pieces come together...

It was on ABC. I doubt any streaming service picked it up.

2015 feels too long ago to be what I'm remembering. I feel like it was more 2018-2019 and we were all wondering WTF a dril show could possibly be about.

I think this must have been what I was thinking about, the timing feels right for it being that I remember hearing about it a bit before the pandemic and then never heard anything else:

Truthpoint: With Derek Estevez-Olsen, Dril, Henry Zebrowski, Tim Heidecker. Independent Journalists Dril and Derek Estevez-Olsen plunge the foulest reaches of the Dark Web to pulverize society's most pressing issues with reasoned debate.

The years after the pandemic are all blurred into a single week in my brain, so I barely even remember what 2020 and 2021 were like.

Every one of my kids has spent time being carried as an infant while I was also browsing these forums. It's a GREAT combo.

Same with my daughter. Yesterday she asked me “daddy what’re you doing?” And then wanted to watch the rocket video again. Daddy is making bad posts on his message board daughter of mine. It’s important!

As with Trump, I constantly oscillate between “this has to be the dumbest person in the world” and “he has to be doing this on purpose no person can be this dumb.”
