It's kind of the classic "soft bigotry of low expectations", right? Expecting that people of a certain ethnicity, race, religion, etc. need to be held to a different standard because they couldn't handle it otherwise... On the other hand, it seems really hard to me to argue that one knows better than someone else what they like/need or that your moral standard is universal without coming across as a bit of a sanctimonious prick. (to be clear, I'm not trying to say you're a sanctimonious prick )

I kind of wish we didn't even know about this. As much as I loathe Ted Cruz, his daughter is a minor and IMO doesn't deserve to have her personal struggles with mental health become public just because of who her dad is. It would be nice if this would make Ted more human, but alas...

Agreed re: a fine being not enough; I'd totally be fine with throwing some scum in jail. I don't think I'm just being naive, but I also think it's probably an overly-cynical mistake to call this "nothing". It's a painfully slow process, but he's not invincible; he keeps losing. Every bit helps.

Interesting, that's almost exactly where I quit, also. People in the book club said that they liked it, but it's hard to know if that was because they're mostly on the younger side (and therefore maybe more willing to waste their own time? ) or maybe it eventually comes together, but yeah I also didn't feel like there was much substance there.

I have my keyboard slightly left of center below the middle, horizontal monitor, on a keyboard tray: All three monitors are on arms so I can put them wherever, but this is usually the layout and orientation, with the middle monitor pretty much never moving.

I haven't seen these movies (though I'm a fan of Harry Potter, both the books and movies) but I just wanted to say I think I nevertheless understand what you mean with this: because this is more or less how I feel about the Hobbit movies. As standalone movies they're mediocre at best, but I'm such a fan of the whole universe that even a mediocre telling of a story in that universe is awesome, to me.
