My team of less than 15 people (at Intel) lost two people. Somehow I wasn't one of them, despite being the newest employee. It seems fairly random.

It's quite common here in Portland to have "wild" lawns full of various grasses, ferns, flowers, bushes, etc. rather than grass. And those places with grass rarely have sprinklers of any kind. But it also rains a shitload here, so....

Completely agree re: America's gun problem being a major hinderance to law enforcement reform. As just one example: Since they're carrying guns, they have to assume that any attack on them is potentially an attempt to get their gun and kill them (or others), so of course they're going to respond with deadly force a disproportionate amount of the time. The Second Amendment is a plague on this country.

I mean yes, it's sick, but I also think that they're fear-dominated mental children who believe escalation (i.e. more guns) is the only way to make things safer, so this short-sighted idiocy makes sense in their pea-brains.

I work as an engineer at a major tech company. I've always been into computers (I'm 37 and have had a computer in the home since I was born, thanks to my dad) and started teaching myself programming in high school, so getting my BS and MS in Computer Science seemed like natural steps. After finishing the MS, I got a contractor job at this company and worked at it for two years. After those two years, I had met the right person who helped me get an interview with a hiring manager and I was finally made a full employee about six months ago. To help you identify a possible job/career: What kinds of things do you like about your current job? What do you dislike? Do you have a broad general direction in mind (e.g. technology, healthcare, construction, etc.)?

I feel like this is one of those "no perfect system" situations. Yes, it's stupid that they chose the arbitrary rule "no swearing in the first 8-15 seconds" as the line in the sand. On the other hand, that line has to be drawn somewhere to make the advertisers happy.

Hopefully whoever wrote that Joker storyline wrote it to intentionally troll those people.

One explanation I'd heard (though I never actually verified, attempting now) was that Seth MacFarlane has almost no hand in Family Guy anymore and just leaves it up to others to do the writing and he just comes in and does the voices.

I know a convicted murderer, but don't believe I've known anyone who was murdered. The murderer also went to the church I went to growing up (with my parents). He was a weird/awkward dude but seemed pretty harmless. A few months ago though he was arrested, charged, and convicted for the kidnapping and murder of a 12 year old girl back in the 80s. He's in his 70s now. Yeesh.

I thought it was going to be about how much content is coming with games or how the gameplay is stretched out with e.g. fetch quests, DLC, etc., how long it takes to beat them, and he was going to wish we had more 4-hour tight masterpieces. Fizzzzle keeping us on our toes! Sucks about your internet speeds. Seems like a legit reason to move though. Internet is life!

I finally did the upgrade on my Lenovo X1 Carbon laptop last night and so far so good. I like the updated UI elements so far and even having the Start menu in the middle doesn't bother me. I'll probably give this a couple weeks to see how it goes and then finally upgrade my gaming desktop if I don't see any issues.
