Sounds like it's time for ryzen 3 in a few weeks.

I'm probably going to do a new build with one of the 5XXX CPUs and move my current 3900 system to the render farm.

Is that top of the line? I understand GPU numbering somewhat but CPU seems all over the place.

The 3900X is one of their top end 3xxx series processors. AMD is about to announce their 4xxx (Zen 2) and 5xxx (Zen 3) CPUs. The 5xxx will have their new highest end processor.

Yes, it makes no sense to me. For someone to care about power, but too lazy to learn so they need "simplicity" is a downright stupid, illogical thought to me. Why someone who cares about power would cut themselves off at the knees and handicap themselves because they also care about simplicity is really stupid.

Think of it this way.

PC gamers are guys who buy Ferraris. Complicated, expensive, powerful.

Console gamers are like soccer moms. They want a cheap minivan but also want it have the best features. So am I going to choose between a Dodge Grand Caravan or Honda Odyssey?

And so while they bicker about that you're sitting over here with your Ferrari saying, just buy one of these. And they are like nah, I can't put a Ferrari in a garage like a minivan. And you're like, no man you can put a Ferrari in a garage no problem

And they respond with

Those are the extremes though, on both ends.  I think there's a middle ground on both sides that isn't getting its dues here.

One is the PC gamer who simply wants consoles to push PC standards forward.  So they start seeing more PC games with HDR, that require SSDs and new technologies advancing them, that lean into raytracing, and that increase recommended specs generationally.

There's also console gamers that want a next gen machines that can be trusted not to run games like mud 5 years from now.  These could be those who only purchase one console a generation, or who dip into multiple ecosystems to get more choice at different points in the generation.

You can also be both at the same time.

I mean it's really not that difficult of a concept to understand; for some people price and convenience are the #1 factors and for others it's performance above all else.

Some folks just want to be willfully obtuse.

How extreme someone is depends on how much they belittle other factors, like value, longevity, library, etc.

You can also prioritize one above all else without being a dick about it.

I have a stupidly beefy PC, and I’d almost always rather jump on the Xbox.

Why? Because I just moved my PC into my new office this afternoon and for no reason that makes any sense I could connect to my router but couldn’t connect to the internet. It was literally the only device that couldn’t connect to the internet. It was working fine when in my dining room right before I moved it.

2 hours of settings changes, removing the WiFi card in the device manager, and google searches I come across a command prompt entry that fixes the issue.

Didn’t even want to play anything after the annoyance of the experience 😂

You just gave me nightmare flashbacks to when my PS4 fucking refused to connect to our wifi for like a month straight. One day it just worked. Literally the only device in a house full of dozens of devices that just wouldn't connect.

I have a $3,000 PC, and still game a lot on Console.  I still run into tons of situations where games won't launch, crash repeatedly with odd error messages, ect. on PC.

Not long ago I updated my Nvidia drivers that's continuously failed, which then made my monitor fail to boot.  I've also had issues with my Windows updates messing with things which require troubleshooting after

So yeah, I know plenty of people that have tried PC gaming and after investing a few thousand into it, went back to console because the benefits didn't outweigh the hassle for them.

I don't comprehend how people can't understand that.

I have two PC's that I game on and literally never run into anything like this.  Once in a great while WIndows messes with my audio and it takes 30 seconds to fix. Luck of the draw.

I don’t care about the size of the games Sony just needs to fix their awful download speeds.

I'll cry if they haven't.  I'm with you, those file sizes don't bother me if the 5 cooperates with my gigabyte net.  I wish they would show the awful UI. (we already know its going to suck)

But I've heard putting down others makes your peepee bigger. I wouldn't know though I'm rocking a micro-dong, really more of a ding if I'm being honest.

Very cool.

I'll be honest, I didn't get the ending with the doppelganger thing. I know it's not the thread but...was the implication that they were created with 'real magic'/science using Tesla's machine? I kind of waned somewhere around the middle and feel like I lost the plot a bit.

There is a thread on the boards that go into a long discussion about that.

-edit-

Here it was in the Tenet thread about mid way through page 7

Spoiler

The cloning machine worked, yes. Every time it happened, his previous body drowned and his new one appeared from up high. Angier hated that he could never see the crowd react to his old trick and wanted to see the look of amazement on the crowd's faces. His final clone was able to imagine that he actually teleported, like, 40 different times and watch the crowd gasp each time.

I see, so...

Spoiler

Angier was basically 'cloned' to a new position in the room while the duplicated body immediately fell into the tank to die then? I may have missed this but how did the machine clone the new copy of him to a specific position?

Also, who the fuck was Bale #2? Also a copy...a twin brother...? I need to watch this a second time some time, I lost interest midway through and dozed off here and there for some minutes seemingly missing enough to have no clue by the end.

Spoiler

Bale #2 was a twin brother. At the end, Angier says, "A brother... a twin.... I told Cutter it was too simple, too easy," and then Borden told him that it was simple, but not "easy" since he had to live this out (and cut off his own fingers). Remember when Angier first saw the trick, he insisted that the same person comes out of the second box, and Cutter told him the only way it can be done is with a double. Angier was so obsessed with it he actually got help from Tesla on an actual cloning device to outdo that and so he could enjoy the reaction from the crowd instead of hearing it from below. It's kind of what the movie talks about when it tells its viewers that they're looking for the secret but don't really want to find it. The answer is dangling in front of you the whole time.

Angier did clone himself so he'd appear on top (either that, or the original always died), but either way, the final Angier has a memory of actually teleporting. The movie doesn't say how he gets to a specific position IIRC, but if you can accept from the hats and cats that were cloned and Cutter's own remarks that the cloning machine really did work, then you can probably accept that he made it so he was cloned on top. That's also why he had blind helpers as none of them could spill the secret to anybody.

It also shows the difference in philosophies of the two men. Angier was a showboat but wasn't as clever a magician. Borden had no presentation but could observe how a trick is done (like the man with the fishbowl between his legs and his observation that he's living a lie so he can do the trick without people finding out, which is also what Borden did in his personal life by never telling his wife that he was using a double, who's the guy who's always yelling at her) and create his own tricks like the teleporting man. He couldn't figure out Angier's final trick because there was no trick to it.

This was clearly not the film to watch while on the couch feeling under the weather!

You should definitely rewatch, it's a very underrated movie.

Spoiler

It's basically the tale of the cost of success, they will stop at nothing to get it and it ends up destroying everything around them and ultimately leaves them unfulfilled and much worse for the wear.

I really don’t get most of Sony’s decisions here. This seems like an easy thing.

You're talking about the company that finally allowed you to change your gamertag near the end of a generation with the caveat of your old games might not work. There isn't anything easy they can't screw up. :p
