Ubisoft self-leaks setting for the next Assassin's Creed game: the Viking Age (Jason Schreier confirms)

Damn... was really hoping for a historical Japan/China setting

I think MOST people were either wanting that or Mughal India, but it really does seem that Ubisoft is "all-in" on having a significant nautical element in the series now which means that Vikings are a pretty natural fit in that case.

I want a game that connects every ubiverse series

Don't hold your breath. It only took them 20 years to acknowledge that Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell take place in the same reality.

I always thought it would be frickin' cool to have a Splinter Cell game and a Ghost Recon game that took place during the same conflict. Ghost Recon could be the Ghosts doing what they do based off of intel they're given. Splinter Cell could be Sam Fisher doing what he does and gaining the intel to relay to the Ghosts. The stories could even intertwine, i.e. the Ghosts having a firefight in a city street, and then in Splinter Cell there's a mission where you're sneaking along the rooftops and through buildings while a firefight is raging down on the street.

C'mon Ubisoft, there's still time!

I’m still here waiting for Feudal Japan or Russian Revolution but I’m 100% Into Viking stuff right now with Vikings, The Last Kingdom and reading the Warlord Trilogy. I’m hoping they weave some off the mythology in like Origins and Odyssey.

So so if this takes place in the 400/500’s will we get the Assassins and Templars back?

I guess I'm one of the few people that would actually pass on an Ass Creed game if it took place in Feudal Japan. I just have zero interest in that time period/civilization.

Although I do at least kinda wonder what it would look like if a western developer took a stab at Japanese culture and setting. I wonder if there's like, this unspoken rule or if they're worried they'd accidentally offend Japanese culture because of something lost in translation.

Ya know, kinda like how black people are portrayed in Japanese games, only this wouldn't be intentional :p

The Ghosts were in Tom Clancy's Endwar as an upgraded unit and there were Easter eggs for For Honor in the first Division game. There's always been small nods to other series in the Ubi soft games I thought... my Division agent is rocking a Ghost Recon patch.

Mine too. yeah they've always had nods but the Splinter Cell event in GR Wildlands was like, the first time they'd ever acknowledged each other's existence using actual in-game missions. I can see how Team Rainbow might never cross paths with Fisher or the Ghosts because of the nature of their job, but Sam and Mitchell should've been working together all along.

Just play Sekiro because they will never touch anything set in the far east.

Have it already, it’s as far from an AC game as you can get lol.  Why would they never touch the Far East? They already have it in their cannon.

Because their engine and architecture cater to western countries. They had their chance with India, China and Russia and made them shitty 2D games.

And Sekiro is resembles the first Assassin's Creed very much if you take away the boss battles. Emphisis on stealth, rootop running, challenging combat, these are the strengths of the first game which got stripped from further sequels.

No, you're not at all.

I can't think of a premise that interests me any less than Assassin's Creed: Norse.

Vikings at one point or another covered a huge part of the world.  So the locations could be greatly varied and tied together by sea travel.

Most of the Viking Age took place in the Dark Ages which doesn't lend itself well to the types of urban locations we're used to for Assassin's Creed titles.

It was only at the very end of the era that the Norse interacted with Miklagard (Constantinople) as members of the Varangian Guard.

Depends, if they set this during the late 400’s with the invasion of Britain that would give them at least a couple city environments to play around with. Combine that with the forest traversed from III and I can see how they can make it fit. That and Origins and Odyssey have def signaled a movement away from the verticality and running roof top to roof top the series used to be known for.

Even trying to figure out which may appeal to me gives me an anxiety attack there's so much crap to choose from arrrghgh

It's pretty easy.

Play 1, the "2 trilogy" and skip everything after that and play origins.

If sailing and pirate ships appeal to you play black flag.

I tried ASII when it came out and thought it was an incredibly boring and janky game so I never touched the series again.
