Still a sad day, and I'm sure whoever is the next voice will basically try and replicate him, just like how Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and the other Disney characters (as well as the Looney Tunes like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, etc.) have all had the same "voice" for decades. I doubt it's anything nefarious, and he surely wouldn't still work with them if Nintendo fucked him over, but even a little, "I decided it was time as I'm getting older, and my voice is changing" would be enough of an explanation.
