But what is there really to do? I'm exploring and opening up side quests but I can't see this game being 100 hours. Unless I'm completely missing something here.

I think you're wanting it to be shorter because you're playing so much at one time lol

While exploring I noticed a black treasure chest through a small opening. But characters don’t crawl or crouch. How do you get it?

@Biggie

Is it the one near Melve? If so

Spoiler

There's an area of land above it and a ladder with a hole, you have to look a bit.

The more I play the more I think this is just open world Monster Hunter w more exploration and somehow a worse story? I’m very much enjoying it don’t get me wrong.

Yes that is exactly what it is. Just like the first game! Except this time the world and characters don't suck as much, and that's most of what I needed.

The other thing I wanted was actual co-op, maybe mods.

Never played the first one. I didn’t notice the similarities with the archer but once I switched to Warrior. Ohhhhh this is Monster Hunter combat HELL YEAH haha. The one thing I wish it had(besides Baldurs Gate level writing) is for the option to control the Pawns in a similar fashion to FFVII Remake. I want control over combos damnit!

And I did the survey last night. I told them to add more bosses and to bring back strider and assassin and give thief a real double jump and that their story is trash and that it is worse than the first game's and that there is less enemy variety than base DD1. Edit: Oh I told them Beastren are ugly furries and should be removed.

I also told them that fighting monsters is fun.

No. If you read my other post I crossed the border last night and was happy to see there is a lot of content left. I don't want this game to end!

This is a great point!

Monster Hunter combat has never gelled with me, it feels like so animation limited and deliberate. Dragon's Dogma feels a lot more free, but I do see the similarities in other aspects.

And no I haven't crossed the border.

Also, just took down my first chimera!  Hype.png

Went out on my second main combat journey and jesus things escalate quickly. Headed out east for that part of the monster culling quest. A griffin was right outside the capital. Used a wakestone, got it down to 1 health bar, and it just flies off. Got to the quest easy enough but decided I should push on to The Nameless Village, find a minotaur which i got through with another wake stone. Then a bir further I get gang banged by multiple Saurians and wolves. Use another wakestone. Then some rando group of rogues just one shot me just outside the quest marker. So guess I'll try going another way when I play later.

Starting with fighter until I get the augment for more carry weight, then I'll try out warrier or rogue. Dumb me sold all my daggers because I saw you get good Thief gear at the Nameless Village but i don't seem to be getting in anytime soon.

Maybe I'm wrong but I was thinking the further south you go the harder the game gets so I thought I'd start filling out the north part of the map

The only reason I bought that last Monster Hunter game at launch was BECAUSE of Dragon's Dogma and it didn't click with me. The crafting is similar in both games and the unique monsters but the combat in DD is better in my opinion for the reasons you stated. And I don't know how far folks are storywise, but this game's main story is way better than the first game and I'm actually interested in seeing how it turns out. And I have no idea how any reviewer beath this game in 20 hours unless they just mainlined the story quests and that's it.

Similar to @Dodger I was going through the gauntlet today. I attempted to do one of those escort quests and there were trolls to the left of me jokers to the right. Then I see a damn dragon across the river and turn around and there's a griffin battling a bunch of trolls. So I decide to engage and it's crazy because the trolls are kind of like allies but they're attacking the pawns too. Then an ox cart rolls by and the ox cart guards start helping out. So we end up really defeating the griffin, it never flew off because it seemed so pissed at the trolls. But anyway we are still escorting this guy and a little bit further down the line is another troll fight but it's by a bridge next to some water and while we are fighting I check the guy and he just walks straight into the water, I tried to save him before he got brined but ended up dying and  I failed the escort quest after all of that. :|

And speaking of dead NPCs I had been trying to do the trial of archery quest and the dude wasn't showing up to the rendezvous point. I'm thinking the quest is bugged because I even camped out till the next day. I look it up in the steam discussions (a miracle finding the answer among the terrible posts there) that suggested to check the morgue and so I check the morgue and turns out he's one of two NPCs that have died in my game. Funny though, I've used two wakestones and none were on myself.

I would imagine that's what they did. They had to fly through the game to get a review out. I was watching an episode of GMM from a few days (weeks?) ago and Lucy James is talking about how she played Final Fantasy Rebirth and took 50 hours to beat it, and sounds like she did side stuff then tried to rush to the end and ended up not enjoying her time. Meanwhile I'm watching Maximilian Dood play it for a month straight, took 130 hours to do everything and beat the game and loved every second of it. Granted he is a huge FF7 fan but it was interesting to see how a journalist and an influencer tackle the same game and come to a completely different conclusion about it.

I just found that different jewels have different prices depending on the region. Tiger's Eye sells for 2.7k in Elf town but 900 elsewhere. Onyx sells for 2.4k in Vermund. Jasper sells for I.Dk in Battahl but that is where the bonus is.

So I caved in and bailed on the archer class. Got tired of getting bum rushed with no ability to block or evade. Also the stamina absolutely sucks for this class. Gonna try fighter class for a bit and see if I can stop dying at nearly every enemy encounter.

Game runs bad enough without trying to record it at the same time, maybe when that patch hits. Probably not though.

Recording with Geforce Experience ain't gonna kill ya, sheesh fr fr ong
