stepee Posted April 6, 2021 Share Posted April 6, 2021 I guess the holding two opposing positions all the time is just weird because they can’t write in the part that’s supposed to talk about how one position is for white people and the other poc. I think in a way they aren’t as big of hypocrites as they seem, it’s just they have two separate positions on a lot of topics separated by race. In regards to the event, the location of the stadium is largely irrelevant to the economic impact to local businesses. For example, the super bowl was played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara a few years ago, but most of the activity surrounding super bowl week happened in San Fransisco proper. It’s all the out of town money coming in and spending at restaurants, hotels, entertainment complexes, taking ubers, etc. A lotta black business owners are going to lose out on a major windfall because the event has been pulled. Private interests can then add any seating/stands they want and charge for admission to those for any events they hold. Otherwise, the public can use and book the field as they want (for community leagues, etc). There is a definite public benefit to having lots of sports fields to have community leagues in...but not much public benefit to having 50,000+ person stadiums. Or just make these billion dollar+ valued franchises build their own revenue generating facilities, while munis build public accommodations that suit the local needs. No need to complicate it!
