Imagine what a shitshow that place really is if that's what your boss brags about openly in 2022.

"They don't HAVE to..." "passion". How is this dude still dropping those right now.

I expect this to be the norm in AAA development but it's still depressing to see it bluntly spelled out all over a game I'm excited for. At least give me blissful ignorance damn.

All these guys are POS, the more famous and revered the worse they are.

This looks so damn good.

Pretty sure that's a Day 1 for me. Previews look real good and the melee is surprisingly in-depth from what I've read. This basically has the Sifu style boxing bob & weave and apparently it focuses quite a bit on up-close melee.

I can't believe this game is actually gonna launch this year. It's one of the many I was sure to get delayed.

I'm pretty sure that practically all of us were convinced of that as well.

I can only imagine the crunch that Glen Schofield put his team through to make the December 2 release date and even then I'm all-but-certain that it's not just gonna be coming in "hot", it's going to be coming in completely ablaze!

Yea everything I’ve seen from a development standpoint looks pretty stellar. I think this is going to be something this team can be proud of in terms of reception, both from gamers and the media. Kinda reminds me of when Dead Space launched.

I actually meant that it's gonna probably be a technical mess at launch :p

Ahh, my bad. But I’ve seen a lot of gameplay vids, hands on previews and such. I haven’t really seen anything to suggest it’s not gonna be pretty polished at launch.

I think this looks amazing, the fundamentals on hits and sound design seem to absolutely spot-on with what I'd hope for from these folks. When I first saw them pick up a live enemy to chop them up in a fan I was like "I'VE WAITED YEARS FOR THIS" because I had always hoped that'd be a late-game upgrade in Dead Space. Game looks crunchy as hell and fun to play. I hope it's not a technical mess, and suspect it'll probably be fine, but who knows!

Shame about the crunch. I know Glen is absolutely passionate about these games and their quality (he seems just as excited about this as I vaguely remember him being about Dead Space back in the day) but game dev doesn't have to be endless long-hour hell, and I hope the industry can start pulling away from that. One surefire way to kill passion is to burn it up all at once like fuel in a rocket.

Pretty much the post I was about to write but more eloquent. On both subjects.

I love small playful touches like environmental interaction in combat and so on and immediately noticed the stuff like tossing enemies into fans, environmental machinery traps and so on. That kind of thing never gets old for me somehow. Also, this has a surprisingly robust melee system. Apparently you can basically bob & weave like in Sifu in this once you're in range of a monster. You have to create openings and not just mash attack by the looks of it.

This is where we're at, I guess.

Science fiction horror game The Callisto Protocol has been marketed as a spiritual successor to Dead Space, vowing to go gorier and nastier than the series it's inspired by. We know a lot about The Callisto Protocol, but we today we learned more about its several bits of expansion content on the way post-release.

One of those things is that the game's DLC packs will include lots of additional gross-out death animations for both protagonist Jacob and the nasty monsters he fights. They're sort of like skins for his armor—they actually come bundled with armor skins—and there are 25 of them in total: 13 new Jacob deaths in the Contagion Bundle, and 12 enemy deaths in the Riot Bundle. Both bundles are included with the Season Pass, which is part of the Digital Deluxe Edition, available for a mere $20 more than the standard edition.

There are of course many perfectly reasonable explanations, other than just a blatant cash grab, for selling death animations as bonus content. Animators and artists and that entire pipeline of developers need something to do, or else you just, what, fire them? That kind of cyclical hiring and firing has been awful for the games industry in the past. These animations are probably what they've been working on since the game content was finalized to polish and look for bugs.

It's actually kind of nice that the developers think their gruesome murders are so cool you'll be happy to pay for more of them. It's a kind of confidence in their work. But it'll still rankle some people, who will be unhappy that these animations were worked on, possibly even completed, before the base game was even on sale. I guess this truly is the legacy of Dead Space, which had lots of microstransaction skins for an already-premium singleplayer game—and if people are unhappy about it, well, it won't be the first time
