CitizenVectron Posted September 26, 2020 Posted September 26, 2020 Sacha Baron Cohen Secretly Shot a Sequel to Borat THEFILMSTAGE.COM Update: The title of the sequel is officially Borat: Gift of Pornographic Monkey to Vice Premiere Mikhael Pence to Make Benefit Recently Diminished Nation of Kazakhstan... I guess this confirms he managed to interview and swindle Mike Pence. Quote With the current meme-worthy title of Great Success, we’ve learned from sources that Trump and Epstein’s relationship, as well as the coronavirus, all figure into the main narrative with cameos from Mike Pence, Rudy Giuliani, and more best left unspoiled. We’ve also learned that one of the yet-to-be-revealed cameos could potentially derail a political career, and we imagine some backlash and lawsuits will follow. Quote
ort Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 There have been rumors of him doing stuff at right wing events over the last few years. Hopefully he spends the whole thing making trump look bad... not that that would be that hard. Although, Trump came out looking really good on his old Ali G show. Trump saw right through his act in like 10 seconds. Quote

Seems like the perfect thing to help the undecided Quote

The funny thing is sometimes he'd get caught and people would act like it was a gotcha moment and that they outsmarted him. Boy, were they wrong. Quote
Brick Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 How do you get fooled by Sacha Baron Cohen these days, and especially how do you get tricked by him in his Borat persona?! Quote

The plot of the movie (allegedly) is that Borat, annoyed that he has become famous after the first movie, takes on a different personality to perform his interviews. So it's Cohen playing Borat playing someone else. 2 Quote

ort Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Plenty of people... people like Mike Pence for example... Quote
Brick Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Borat the movie was such a huge hit, and a cultural phenomenon back when it came out. Even if one didn't see the movie themselves, they've at least heard of it, or people doing jokes from it (wawawewa, VERY NICE, etc.). Quote

Keyser_Soze Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 I have a friend who's watched maybe like 5 movies her whole life, she's a person who would not have heard of him. Quote

Keyser_Soze Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 I mean at my work I worked with a lady about 5 years younger than me and she'd never seen a Star Wars movie, any star wars movie. Though it seems impossible, there are people who are in a bubble who have no idea who Borat is. Quote
CitizenVectron Posted September 28, 2020 Author Posted September 28, 2020 Let's keep in mind there should be entire teams of people screening people like Cohen away from politicians. Quote
Mercury33 Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 There are tons of people who haven’t heard of Borat. That was a relatively “flash in the pan” cultural moment. Quote

ort Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 Yay, it's on a service I actually have. Wait, it's free right? (well, free with a prime membership, but whatever) Quote
Amazatron Posted September 29, 2020 Posted September 29, 2020 It certainly won't match the first one (probably top 3 movie theater experiences in terms of audience reactions for me), but I could certainly use some Borat trolling right about now... Quote
Guest Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Amazon booked this with us at the drive ins. Looking forward to it Quote
ort Posted October 1, 2020 Posted October 1, 2020 Hopefully. Part of me thinks the Borat schtick has kinda run out of steam. Maybe it got too popular too fast. It was a bit overplayed for a while. And honestly, even though it's only been like 20 years, the Borat character is somewhat problematic. I know it's kinda a joke within a joke, like making a racist/xenophobic joke that's supposed to be funny because it's taking it to an extreme or making fun of the bigotd... but at some point it just ends up being kinda racist/xenophobic. If the bigots are laughing too (and they are) it can be a problem. I loved the HBO Ali G show... loved the first Borat movie... but pretty much everything he's done since has fallen completely flat for me. and... all that said, I love the controversial / questionable stuff... I can handle it... I love a lot of his early stuff and I think Sasha Baron Cohen is one of the most gifted comedic minds of our time. Quote

His scripted stuff can be kind of meh, yeah, at least when he's the lead actor, and his improvisational, prank stuff like Bruno, Borat, and Ali G are his best stuff, and those sketches from his show are still hilarious. This Is America was a return to form for him, and it was hilarious. I agree that pulling off these characters can be tricky too; gotta be careful that you're not just giving fuel to the bigots when trying to expose them. For example in the movie Bruno some of the stuff he would do to people, bigots or not, would piss anyone off. At that point you can't yell, "Ha! You're a homophobe!"; no you're harassing me. Comedy sequels can be tricky to pull off, but I hope this is good, and reminds us why this character is loved, and in some ways important in shining a light on the dark parts of America, instead of just tired. number305 Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 I wonder if the release of this could be altered at all by Trump's health. If he does not recover quickly I could see Amazon putting this on hold. Might be a tacky look to release it while he is in the hospital. Depending of course on how much Trump material is in this. I saw an ad for it during the NBA finals so if they cared they should have cared sooner. Quote

SoberChef Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 I have roughly 30 minutes left but it's seriously good, in fact (dare I say it...) better than the first!? Quote
skillzdadirecta Posted October 23, 2020 Posted October 23, 2020 Just watched the Rudy scene... he was definitely futzing with his shirt or mic or whatever. The scene was still creepily funny (or funnily creepy?)His reaction when Borat came in was priceless though Quote

Tri-state origins 100% confirmed! On topic, watching this this weekend, should be an awkward time. I'll never forget seeing the first Borat in a movie theater in Forest Hills, Queens. So many walk-outs, oooffa 1 Quote
