Dead Space Remake?

HardAct

With so many developers opting to remake older classics whether we want them or not, I find myself wishing we could get some Dead Space love too. Man I loved Dead Space 1, the others are ok, well 2 is good, but 3 well not so much. DS had some very original gun play, creepy atmosphere and ran very well. Just food for though, anyone like me really like the original DS and wouldn't mind a remake of the game one day?

Metacritic: Dead Space

I would love another Dead Space, whether it's a sequel, reboot, or remake. I still haven't played 3 yet (I should get on that), but the first two are very fun.

Imagine what it could look like on the new consoles with the improved lighting. Plus the sound design taking advantage of what the PS5 is doing with its audio would be a treat.

This. I want none of the old characters to return and I want them to drop the religion marker bullshit. I'd honestly rather it be just like lab experiment gone wrong, or like they drifted into some space dust that was like parasites and it changed the humans kinda like RE4. Like, I don't want any of the psychological shit back.

I initially thought I'd love a remake of Dead Space (or a Remaster of the trilogy) but I feel like the game design of "go here, get that, fight them, return back, oh no it went wrong, go there..." would be a bit frustrating now. A reboot would be the right option for the series.

Having recently replayed the first two, encounter design is definitely really weak in both of them. It's a shame because they're great games but it's very noticeable going back now.

Half way into the games, you could predict when enemies will spawn, especially when they'd "unexpectedly" spawn somewhere behind you.

I would play another Dead Space game. I don't think the first one needs a remake. The game still looks and plays great, and does everything it needs to do effectively.

That said, fighting the xenomorphs got really old, really fast. They'd need to mix it up somehow. Especially since you could just upgrade the plasma cutter all the way and ignore all the other weapons.

But thats the best part.

Did any of you ever play Dead Space: Extraction on the Wii? It was actually a really cool spin-off game.

I did, but I played the remaster on PS3 that came with Dead Space 2, not on the Wii. Extraction was well regarded at release for being a very good on-rails shooter. They continued the story of Extraction with some pretty great Dead Space 2 DLC (since the plotline of Extraction ends where Dead Space 2 begins), which hinted at some big things, but like the end of Dead Space 3, the cliffhanger for the Dead Space: Extraction/Dead Space 2 DLC storyline was left hanging as well (Dead Space 3 does not elaborate at all on what happens to the Extraction characters, just the mainline Dead Space characters).

I also thought that was a good aspect to the series.

I have no idea where the hell they can possibly go with the series considering where it ended up at the conclusion of the third game's DLC.

It's probably best just to do a full reboot.

What do you mean? Dead Space 3's DLC clearly ended on a cliffhanger. Or a very abrupt and dark ending with zero elaboration.

Ugh I can’t even think of the series without getting made.

I LOVED Dead Space. I even really liked the Wii Spin off and the anime on Netflix. I was 100% all in on the story, the world and the mystery.

Then came Dead Space 2. Which was just ok. The setting wasn’t as interesting, the story started to lose some mystery and they changed you from an Engineer fighting to survive with “tools” to Rambo going off with an Arsenal.

Then Dead Space 3 was pure and utter garbage. It was like each subsequent game moved further and further from what made the original so interesting and unique. “Hey everyone what’s your favorite thing about the first game?”  “Cool, we’re gonna start doing the opposite”

Im literally heartbroken about the way that series turned out.

That's exactly what I mean.

They painted themselves into a practically impossible to get out of narrative corner with that cliffhanger ending.

I never had a problem with 2. I enjoyed as much as the first, but iirc EA stuck there noses too deep into DS3s development and pushed the game in a horrible direction.

All the more reason to see what they were thinking to get themselves out of that corner! They obviously had a plan. :p
