There is increasing feeling in the small business world that the $349 billion for small businesses is basically a back door bank bailout program. The main reason that the PPP is run through banks, but banks have almost all decided to limit applications to businesses that have an existing business account with them, and in some cases requiring an existing credit product with the bank. The thinking is that the banks are using these federally guaranteed loans to prop up business that owe them money or otherwise generate significant revenue for the bank. I don't think that line of thinking is without merit and sounds about right for the financial sector.

Sounds shady and shitty.

Good news is that Italy, Spain, and NY look to be flattening the curve.

It's good news, but unfortunately their new cases aren't declining very fast, they are just not increasing. Getting the curve down to 2% daily or lower (the point where it is "under control," apparently) is going to take far longer than it took to reach the peak.

Yeah, this will linger for awhile, especially in the U.S. since each state is on their own time frame.

I do see a lot of people bragging about how it's getting "better" because the daily rate of increase is dropping. That IS good! But a dropping daily % doesn't mean new cases are decreasing:

If you have 100 cases in total and 50 more are added the next day, then you have a 50% daily increase. If another 60 are added the day after that, your daily increase has dropped to 40% (60/150), but the amount of new cases has still increased day-to-day.

Obviously having the daily % rate dropping is a good thing as it means the exponential curve is dropping, and over time this prevents a lot of new cases. But it's important to look at both the daily % increase as well as the absolute number of new cases. Linear growth is better than exponential growth, but it's still growth!

Umm, absolute daily new cases is dropping.

Sorry I didn't mean in their specific cases, only that a dropping daily % doesn't necessarily mean a dropping linear amount as well! We could have a jurisdiction have the same new daily numbers for a year, and the daily % would continue to decrease the entire time.

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that ANY LA Resident can now be tested for Coronavirus... if they are displaying symptoms.

Quote

Los Angeles County is expanding coronavirus testing to more people. Officials emphasized that the expansion doesn’t necessarily mean there will be enough tests for everyone who wants one, but it should increase access to the tests. L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Monday evening that any resident who has symptoms and wants to be tested for the coronavirus can now apply online to be tested. The new regimen applies to anyone in Los Angeles County.

In all the coronavirus commotion, I think this may have been overlooked.

I saw that Bullshit... fuck him. If it wasn't for gerrymandering mass incarceration and voter suppression Mississippi would be a blue state. It's just matter of time. That picture look like a goddamned Klan rally.

The separation of Church and state continues to close.

Quote

In a development that could challenge the Constitution's prohibition of any law "respecting an establishment of religion," the federal government will soon provide money directly to U.S. churches to help them pay pastor salaries and utility bills.

A key part of the $2 trillion economic relief legislation enacted last month includes about $350 billion for the Small Business Administration to extend loans to small businesses facing financial difficulties as a result of the coronavirus shutdown orders. Churches and other faith-based organizations are among the businesses that qualify for aid under the program, even if they have an exclusively religious orientation.

This is cool and all but they need to pay taxes.
