I'd ask to share your favorite lines and scenes, but then people would just post images of a DVD box set of the entire series or a screenshot of it on Hulu. For sure but it's tacky when watching in retrospect (to me) because laugh tracks are a method to tell me what to laugh at and it just feels kind of dumb. It's antiquated but tolerable. Reminds me of the talking dirty scene: The build-up to what Jerry said is fantastic, but being able to laugh with the audience when the reveal is made is far more entertaining. Plus, it gives you a chance to stop laughing at the damn thing lest you miss something . I feel it's probably more fun for the actors as well (except Richards who needed everything timed perfectly lmao). It's so much harder for me to get into the ones from this century like Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Parks and Rec. Course, it helps that Seinfeld is a better written show. But I feel that there's more energy and dare I saw more larger-than-life characters in shows like All in the Family or Frasier or Seinfeld. It's hard for me to put my finger on what makes that so. The problem is a lot of the laugh track is canned, not just always from the live studio audience. That's the problem (for me) - it feels forced. Trust your audience is one of the key aspects of art - I'll know when to laugh, if it's funny, I'll laugh regardless. On the flipside, live audiences for stand up specials really help stand up shows, so I get what you mean at the same time. I dunno, I'm not against it but I think most would agree it is dated, whether one likes it or not. More importantly, how good is Seinfeld? They played reruns of it (maybe they still do) on the local channel at 11pm after the news, 2 episodes and I watched it that way for years. My favorite seasons are still the later ones. It always felt like they got more absurd, mean-spirited, and therefore funny, as the show went along. The whole running gag of George's fiance fucking dying from the stamps is one of my favorite moments of sheer misanthropy and the cherry on top of this show. Merv Griffin was during Season 9 which, for my money, was actually better overall than Season 8 since it knew what it was at that point post-Larry David (more a skit show with some relatable humor). Stuff like The Burning or the toilet brush girlfriend or the Frogger sequence or the on-and-off Puddy relationship, they're all aces. Season 9 had the lows of the last two episodes, though. Yes, I believe it was one guy in NBC who had confidence, IIRC. Regardless, the pilot was so bland lol. I remember buying the first few seasons years ago, watching the pilot and thinking, "It does get better than this, right? Is this not as good as I remember?" I think the show just got better and better. I can't remember exactly remember where I kind of "drew the line", but I always remember the first two seasons maybe being just not that funny. The meaner and more outlandish it got, the funnier the show was. I loved all the ridiculous shit with Peterman going to the jungle, Jackie Chiles and what not.
