Elden Ring - Information Thread, update (05/21): Shadow of the Erdtree "Story Trailer"

Recommended Posts

Game seems incredible - I've just barely started playing but said "oh fuck yeah" to the extremely played out "step out into the open world" trope.

However, even in "prioritize framerate" mode on PS5 it's definitely not running like you'd want - I'm getting pop in, framerate drops here and there. Disappointing when we're like a year into the gen.

Sorry, but I don't see these arcs of light at the sites of grace....

I'm just wandering around trying to level up at this point. But I do wish they directed you to advance the game. Unless I'm missing it.

If you go into your map, you can see a little golden “trail” coming out of some sites of grace. They point in the story direction(I think?) you should go in.

Margit the Fell Omen.

Oh yeah, took me forever when I fought them in the network test. Im not there yet this time. Im leveling and exploring.

I thought you were talking about the tree guardian (which I don't consider a spoiler, because he's just there as you walk outside, and everyone has seen him).

I beat him, the wolf miniboss, and this cat statue miniboss last night.

Oo snap AMD drivers. Let's see if it helps.

Definitely not visually impressed like I was with Demons Souls but WOW.. The world, enemies, design, and the freedom of go wherever, whenever, however but but don't let your greed write a check you can't cash... Yet is astounding. It's definitely got a DS3 and Sekiro vibe but majorly improved on as far as character control and customization. Getting soooo many things I don't know wtf what they are or what to do with yet but thats the appeal for me. Love NOT having my hand held and having things over explained like I haven't played video games for nearly 40 years. And yes, I'm that old lol

Work is fucking bullshit. I got to get back to this. I haven't felt this way about a game in a long time. I'm even off next week, but the wait to get through work so I binge on this all week is killing me.

I will say for the difficulty the reviews have it right, at its basics, the game is not hard. But they do throw a lot of enemies at you that are initially above your pay grade even in the starter area unless you're just a master at these games. Like think Red Eye Knights are basically all over the place. Also, combat is basically the evolution of Dark Souls 3, so hope you liked it there because that's the combat model for this game.

Ok will try that when I get to play.

Als @BloodyHell i'd hold off on dex because we might have the ability to increase str scaling. I did it in DS3 made I think it's called a heavy claymore. Also if you two hand you only really need 27 str to get the soft cap damage.

First spoiler is of what I have uncovered on the map second spoiler has very minor spoilers. Less that most trailers. But that's just me bitching.

So, I really hate not knowing how powerful I am supposed to be. I really feel like I am lost when it comes to my character's individual power. I've never had this issue before. Hit level 30 before ever fighting the first real boss, Margit. I feel like I was both over leveled but still not strong enough. Like, I killed the boss in like 30 seconds while powerstancing. I could melt that health bar, but 1 hit would take me below half health and I died way more than I thought I would on what I thought was the Vordt of ER. And I have 22 or so points into vit. Like, no joke, ER is being harder than Sekiro for me. I also dislike how so many bosses are only focused on you dodging as the only way to not take damage. My guard gets broken in one hit. I thought sword and board was gonna be legit because of the new block/counter mechanic, but I never have any stamina left to do that on the bosses. It just fees like EVERY boss is designed around you rolling to an extreme degree and you have only enough time to get in 1 hit.

I'm really talking about bosses like Margit, Crucible Knight, Bloodhound Knight Darriwil, and even that Scion boss at the start of the game. They just string so many attacks together and you literally have no other option other than rolling. I'm not even over rolling. They just attack that damn often and its been a bit annoying. Not even the hardest bosses in sekiro had me dodging that often. All of these bosses have such a low recovery time it's unreal. You get in like two hits top before it is back to rolling. I mean, the writing was on the wall with DS3, but damn I was hoping for difficulty other than bosses are fast as fuck now.

I'm still having fun, but it is annoying how every boss so far has been made hard by just making them ever faster than DS3. It kinda just feel like I am fighting the same boss but with a different weapon.

And remember, I'm only good at being negative. The game is pretty good overall, but negativity is far easier to express, especially when you're not even half way through.

My friend is a huge Souls fan and he's complaining to me about the same thing regarding the bosses right now. As someone who thought the DS3 bosses were pretty annoying roll fests quite often, it's not that great to hear :buttsex:

I wouldn't mind that consistent speed increase if parrying was an actually good option in Souls games specifically. Just rolling five times in a row and getting one hit in because your stamina is drained nonstop isn't the best evolution of their boss design to me.

I went with Confessor. Only played about an hour last night. Won’t get to play until late tonight after work. Really looking forward to it.

I went Confessor too.

I'm level 19 now and making decent progress. Is the map that I have the entire world? If so, it's not very big at all. That's disappointing if true.

I'm such a noob at crafting but just bought the nessecary stuff to do it. I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to craft. The only upgrade in equipment I got in 8 hours is a helmet and 4 shitty swords. Am I missing something here?

I've yet to beat any "boss" yet but got close to the one hiding in the wolf cave. I'm just such a noob in this series I am lost most of the time. I would assume the higher level you are the easier enemies and bosses get?

Overall I'm having a great time with this game and I'm thankful that there are areas that take it easy on you. I just wish I knew how to really play this game like you veterans do. Any advice would be terrific!

There are Souls veterans with hundred plus hours into the game that marvel at the scale and scope of the world and say that they still have much to discover. I don't think you need to worry about the size being disappointing.

It is not, the world is supposed to be massive.

Have you cleared out the camp by the gate to the castle? I found a nice great sword there.

I think I died by the castle. One bitch I can't take down. The rest of the guards I can kill but there is one badass there that gets me every time. If I clear them where is the sword? Also, with that sword, I'm assuming that makes you more powerful?

There’s two massive wagons near the camp. They each have a chest in the back of them. I think I got it from one of them. It’s a more powerful sword than the starter sword so you’ll do more damage. Requires 16 strength though.

Yeah that knight that patrols the middle is tough.

Ok, that's the location. Thanks and I'm 16 strength so I'm good.

Fight him on horseback, its easy mode out in the world wuth most normal enemies.

You can definitely beat the wolf cave, just take your time, roll through attacks, and fight. If you beat Bloodborne you can beat this. And summon a friend.

I found three maps so far. This world is huge. I found this underground river, the trip down to it was incredible.

Yea, I was rolling and got his health down pretty low. It was around the time I was about to call it quits. I'll also fight the dick by the castle on horseback.

@best3444btw since you had asked where to go. Make sure to exhaust NPC dialog. Interact at least twice. Like the NPC next to the first site of grace outside tells you but you have to talk to him twice for him to explain essentially how the guiding light works.

Will do, thanks.

It's a great sword (literally) though I think I might have sold it. Trying to force Halberd use.
