  1. Watched two movies over the weekend: Trick 'R Treat - 9/10 Just a great little Halloween mainstay for me for some years now. It's actually really funny, gory, atmospheric and has some really great costumes and sets. The Wailing - 8/10 I think this was recommended quite some time ago by @Greatoneshere? I think at least. Anyway, I really enjoyed this movie and I'd rate it a 9/10 but I admit, I didn't really understand quite a bit of it ultimately. I thought I did until the end hit and I felt like it missing another few minutes or something. I'm wondering if it's because of some cultural aspects and the subtitles maybe lacking? But even with that, I thought it was great. The transition from many lighthearted, and even funny, scenes into a complete clusterfuck was very well done and subtle.
  2. The real plot twist is that it turns out I already played Bloodborne in the 90s when it was called Nightmare Creatures
  3. ..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
  4. I beat Doom Eternal last night. One of the most obnoxious end bosses in recent memory to crown an obnoxious game. Made sense at least.
  5. @Xbob42 Return of the Obra Dinn is a puzzle game, right? I've never wanted to spoil it by looking into it too much but love the art style. How does it actually play moment to moment?
  6. So...I was playing several levels with that laser 'tool' thing that stuns enemies. The one with infinite ammo. I didn't know you could switch back to a normal gun and thought it was a gameplay gimmick... I was stunning and melee'ing enemies until I thought fuck man this can't be half the game.
  7. I just somehow only realized in the LAST LEVEL of Titanfall 2 that you can fucking switch weapons and can have two equipped
  8. You should play The Evil Within. That game strongly reminded me of shit like Splatterhouse where every level was drastically different and had a gameplay gimmick just because it was 'weird Horror'. Returnal also nails this weirdness I think. The enemy designs and abstract, old school level designs especially are pretty weird and old fashioned by modern standards in my opinion.
  9. That'd be it. I've actually never read the news story before. This was one of the first big projects I was going to close at my job back then and then they went full 'buuuut there's a guy going out of business if he doesn't get this job so he'll drop his pants, sorry!'. This was the carpentry contract for us and carpentry is usually responsible for shit like OSHA railings around shaft openings etc.
  10. Friends of mine made me go up at an open mic comedy thing once and they did it because I was like five drinks deep. I told the Bob Saget South Park joke and then asked for a free drink which I did not receive. That was my stand up career
  11. Lawsuit surely, nobody goes to prison. I'm not 100% sure though. Ironically, the project was a church named Redeemer. The general contractor involved were also the people who had the crane collapse in the middle of Manhattan some years back.
  12. The price point is absolutely it, 100%. We see this in the construction industry constantly as well. Years back we lost a large project because the GC went bargain bin shopping to a contractor who has a notoriously horrible safety record and three months into the job two guys died falling into the elevator shaft due to insufficient OSHA railing. You get what you pay for and the 'getting' is always on some poor employee that had nothing to do with the stupid ass decision. It's depressing
  13. Let me point out that my rants on here are...heavily abated versions of the shit that'd spill out of my mouth given free rein. You do not actually want this!
  14. Dead Ringers - 9/10 One of the Cronenberg flicks I had never seen and my girlfriend suggested watching a 'spooky' movie and this one caught her eye because of the medical angle. I mean, I'm more than familiar with Cronenberg but I did not expect what this turned out to be. The level of dialog and visuals in this movie alone are absolutely top tier stuff. Her and I discussed this movie for quite some time afterwards and I said I found it so unique because it felt psychologically aggressive and violent. Seemingly every dialog in the film was pretty challenging and full of interesting, and intense, verbal sparring and revelations. I was extremely captivated and found myself literally at the edge of the couch hanging on every word and really, it's quite a slow-moving film. Overall, I thought the themes were extremely interesting and I especially loved the uncliched and harrowing ending. Also, deeply unsettling and borderline surreal on every level. The sets and overall visual design, especially the surgery scenes, were amazing.
  15. I really like this one as well. It really captures the paranoia and weirdness of the post-hippy/trip gone bad era. It's so simple and raw but her internal monologues and some of the sound design alone give it such an eerie vibe. My ex's name is Jessica and she dressed up as her one Halloween.
  16. I've been trying so hard to stay away from Returnal... This new feature is gonna make me pop in for quick runs even more now, god help me.
  17. Major update adding the much-requested "Suspend Cycle" soft-save feature and Photo Mode. Also various bug fixes and quality of life improvements but no details on that just yet.
  18. I remember reading there'll be a Quake reboot. Curious to see if that'll lean more in the direction of Quake 1 and the general eerie atmosphere some of these had later on. Also, I'm not Mr. Graphics or anything but what fucking sorcery are those Doom Eternal graphics on PS5? It seems to be 60FPS with raytracing, never tanks and the enemy detail especially is nuts.
  19. Your post actually nudged me towards going to see it this week. I was kind of worried I wouldn't understand shit because I haven't read the books so I was a bit on the fence despite loving Villeneuve's work so far.
  20. I'm incredibly confident that they already did. How much more shit could you possibly cram into that game before having an aneurysm haha
  21. Actually, it's more like if an Ed Hardy shirt drinking a Monster energy drink turned into a video game and then Ahhh! Real Monsters threw up all over it. Quake held up shockingly well I will say. I mean, even the visuals still work really well in a kind of unsettling abstract way. It's seriously eerie and claustrophobic in general, atmospheric as hell. The Reznor soundtrack works SO well with that game. I actually like it way more now than I did when it came out...I used to be a bit lukewarm on it, I was more into Doom.
