Television Best streaming service.
Nokra replied to CastletonSnob's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
Alright folks, let's get it back on topic. I think "the best" streaming service just depends on which one has the content you want to see. For me that's generally Netflix, just because I tend to go mostly for Hollywood movies and I think they have the largest number. -
I'm trying to get back into running too, and to make the winter running easier on myself I recently bought these shoes. They have Gore-Tex and I live in Portland where it usually rains all winter. I also got a jacket similar to this one (they're not selling the actual jacket anymore). And of course once I spent about $300 on winter rain running shit, it has barely rained at all this winter. Do you have a recommendation for running lights?

Of course you're entitled to your opinion, but hopefully you also see the general problem with taking your experience with TWO trans people and applying it as a guiding principle to ALL trans people. The two people you know may have had some difficulties or regrets, but thousands of others have not. In fact, one metastudy of 27 other studies (source here) puts the number of people who regret it at less than 1%, of people who transition, and this meta-analysis includes adolescents. I don't think it's wrong to be concerned about people under 18 having major surgeries of any kind, but supporting a law to ban transitioning is, IMO, frankly to support the oppression of people for no good reason. Medical professionals agree it is a completely acceptable and supported procedure (including for adolescents), the number of people who regret it is tiny compared to the number of people whose lives it improves, and it has literally zero effect on you.

Have you ever cut a family member out of your life?
Nokra replied to DarkStar189's topic in The Shower
I also have fortunately never had to cut out a family member, at least not entirely. Definitely have some aunts and uncles who I talked to less for a while when the COVID denial dumbassery was in full effect, but even that has subsided quite a bit. -

What would you do if this happened at a restaurant?
Nokra replied to Remarkableriots's topic in The Shower
Yes that is unfortunately the current reality, so my hope in telling the manager would be to let them see that they're losing business by not providing adequate sick leave for their employees. -
I grew up in a small town near Twin Falls, Idaho, about 4 hours from Salt Lake City. Though the town had fewer than 2,000 people, it had seven or eight different denominations' churches (Baptist, Methodist, Assembly of God, etc.) and the Mormon church was by far the biggest/most popular. A good third of my classmates were Mormons, and in fact my best friend from elementary school through high school is Mormon (he had 11 siblings and now has four kids of his own; I have a dog ).

Yeah I think I would have left also but actually told the manager why. IMO it needs to become culturally completely unacceptable to go to work when you're sick. -
Interesting. Reading more about it, it sounds like Mormons consider themselves Christians but many Catholics and (eastern) orthodox religions, as well as many Protestants, don't consider them Christian. I grew up in Mormon country and always took them at face value when they claimed they were Christian, but didn't really ever deep dive into their theology, because what I did hear of it already sounded crazy enough. TIL!

Books What Are You Reading or Listening To?
Nokra replied to rc0101's topic in The Performing Arts Centre
That's a great way to get some reading done! Makes me miss my student days in Germany when I could set my own schedule, so it almost always included sitting by the river and reading for an hour every day. Now my 8-5 (plus 1.5 hour total commute) M-F doesn't leave me much free time during the week and I've been prioritizing gaming. Then, at least in good weather I try to get out and do some hiking and such on the weekends. But it's the rainy season, so maybe it's the reading season. Anyway... Probably a hard question, but: What would be your top picks for 1)nonfiction and 2) fiction books you read this year? -
I'm optimistic about 2024. I've got some big trips planned (Germany, Hawaii), I'm going to get into a regular exercise habit, I'm developing new skills at work... Life is pretty good overall.

Damn, 118 in a year is still impressive, IMO. My personal best was something like 60 and you blew that completely out of the water! This year I'm at something like 10 books or less. Working life sucks, man. -

That sucks man, sorry to hear it. Losing loved ones is always terrible. My condolences for you and your family. -
Knowing nothing of these Pitbull shavers: can you just 1)clean the head or 2) buy a whole new head? It may just be clogged or dull, and cleaning/replacing could be sufficient.

What should I do about this Walmart pickup order error
Nokra replied to Remarkableriots's topic in The Shower
I think if you told them of their mistake and they made another, it would severely impact my willingness to believe they'd handle fixing it correctly. There also may be a bug or delay in the system that causes it to refund automatically right away but charge again later. As long as it's not a huge cost, I'd probably just leave it, I think. If it was a small mom and pop shop I'd definitely go back and talk to someone to try and figure it all out, but with such a huge company I'm not sure it's really worth anybody's time to worry about it. -
Ungrateful shit.
