  1. Alright guys, enough with the derailment. Keep it on topic. I hid a bunch of posts, including the two from @gamer.tv and @TheLeon, in the interest of consistency, though those two made me chuckle.
  2. Jesus Christ, the AfD even met at a hotel near a lake to discuss their plans. Shades of Wannsee.
  3. It's always disappointing when a person lets their politics override not only common sense but their professional training.
  4. And just to address a potential counterargument: Yes, one does generally make more money in more expensive cities, but the median household income of Portland, OR is still only $85, 876 according to the Census bureau.
  5. Really interesting article, thanks. "The media" is one identified "we" in the article. A minority of Swift fans are another. You should read the article.
  6. That sucks, sorry man. Is it at least walking distance to work, or are you having to drive? I vaguely recall you saying you don't drive much, or at all; am I misremembering? Either way, the sidewalks are crap right now, for sure. A few months ago I bought a set of these and they've been a godsend when I have to take my dog out; I can definitely recommend them. I feel very lucky that I have the ability to work remotely, especially since I live in Portland but work in Hillsboro. Starting a few months ago they had us starting to come into the office at least two days per week, but at least management has (so far) been reasonable about not enforcing it when the weather is crap; besides the general corporate email about being cautious in inclement weather, our manager sent out an email to the team explicitly stating "do not come to campus."
  7. Where I live, Portland, OR, ranks as "only" the 21st most expensive US city to live in, according to US News & World Report, but the median house sale price here is $531,000 according to Zillow. Assuming the (outdated?) standard of a 20% down payment ($106,000 ), a 30-year fixed mortgage at 7.618%, and following the (again, outdated?) guideline of housing being no more than a third of your income, you'd need to earn about $108,000 per year. And that excludes any insurance, HOA fees, taxes, etc. The median household income in the US was $74,588 in 2022, according to the Census bureau.
  8. Can confirm! I went to a nearby sandwich shop yesterday (Snappy's, if you know it, over on Ankeny and SE 6th) and when I told the guy I was glad they were open, he said "Yeah, after a week of being closed we had to be." The ice is just so thick, there's plenty of it left even after it got up to 40 today. I'm just glad I never lost power in all of this; some people on r/Portland were saying they were without power for nearly a week and even inside their house it got down into the 30s (when it was closer to 0 outside).
  9. Since I haven't been able to justify getting an OLED Steam Deck but have heard I believe @stepee saying how great Ori: And the Blind Forest was on it, I instead popped on my Rokid Max glasses for that OLED experience (I'll try it on my LG G3 later ). It was definitely not disappointing! The game really looks great on these glasses; the colors are fantastic!
  10. I can already hear Fox News and co. saying that this is the delayed result of Trump's policies.
  11. I'm generally way too cautious to wait until I've already wrecked myself before checking myself.
  12. Yeah I took my dog out and he pancaked on the ice a couple of times (even though he's a spry 4 year old Aussie). I have Yaktrax that I was wearing so I was fine, but yeah the sidewalks and many side streets are just solid ice, now even slicker with the drizzle.
  13. Might be worth testing for the 'rona, but yeah I've also just woken up with e.g. a stiff neck or back. Did you sleep a super long time? That makes my back sore sometimes, if on rare occasion I'm in bed for 9+ hours.
  14. Not to get us too far off topic, but I've heard good things about this adapter, though I haven't used it myself.
  15. Nope! I just missed the train, I guess. I'm sure it's a game I'd love but I've just never taken the time to start it.
  16. Having never played Elder Scrolls ( ) and loving previous GTA games, I think I'm more excited for GTA VI.
  17. Over this long weekend I spent several hours cataloging and finally sorting all of my physical movies. I made an Excel sheet which has the title, media type ( 4K Blu-ray, 2K Blu-ray, DVD), where I bought it (because I bought a lot of my movies in Germany while I was living there), the type (movie, TV show, other), as well as whether they have a German audio track in general (to keep up my German). My next step will be to use the Python package called Cinemagoer to automatically look up each title I have and link it to its IMDb page. Anyway once I had all my data I just sorted them the way I wanted (by media type, then German audio track, then movie/tv/other, then title) and arranged them on my shelves accordingly. All told I have a little over 300 movies and TV shows, breaking down as follows: 4K Blu-ray: 32 2K Blu-rays: 150 DVDs: 139 Total: 321 Total with German audio: 92
  18. Maybe it's just coincidence, but I feel like I've been noticing some major spikiness with YouTube, even as a Premium member.
