Hollow Knight & Silksong Discussion Thread

The def star

I bought Hollow Knight when it first released on the Xbox One and it was on sale for like some $12. I first played through Symphony of the Knight and then Resident Evil 7 and went straight into Hollow Knight and holy crap this game is worth the $12 I paid for it! It's a metroidvania style game but it has beautiful art style, cryptic lore and plenty of things to find in this game. I beat Castlevania SotN in about 10 hours that's bother the regular castle and upside down castle.  About 20 hours in Hollow Knight and I still haven't beaten the game :o I think I'm almost there but there is still plenty of thing to uncover. This game is hands down the best deal in gaming as far as indie games go. I have well gotten my monies worth and I can't put the game down. Kudos to Team Cherry. I wish I can give them more money for this amazing game. If you haven't played Hollow Knight and enjoy Castlevania type games even if you don't for $15 brand new this game is worth every penny.

It’s really great. I get the gripes people have with it, but I think it’s incredible. Love the atmosphere and world they built, the gameplay is pristine, and it progresses at a really nice pace.

I wish the end game for the best ending wasn’t such a slog, but it’s still one of my favorite games this year.

I have heard good things about Hollow Knight.

I am debating to get it for Switch or PS4. I don't play the switch portable often to care about that if it is the lessor techincal verision. I would rather play in 4k than handheld.

I'd say get it on the console you spend the most time on comfortably. Game is deep and you'll spend so many hours just traversing all of the games areas.

I really liked it for the first 15 to 20 hours, after that I thought it veered towards feeling like a chore and overly obtuse for its own good too often.

I'd still highly recommend it but patience and time is certainly required. It can also be difficult in a, to me, obnoxious way at points, and I love a hefty challenge. At the same time, it's highly atmospheric and screenshots don't do the art style justice. Controls are really tight and feel good for the most part as well (I played with D-pad).

While the game is pretty long I have yet to feel like it's dragging. In SotN when I got to the reverse castle about half way through I kind of just wanted it to be over. Could have been because of lot of it is retreading of the original castle just upside down. This game I keep finding hidden areas going through the locations over and over again. If I had a thing to change in Hollow Knight it would be to add more fast travel locations. At least 2 in each area.

Despite having my issues with Hollow Knight, I'll gladly pick this up Day 1 whenever it hits PS4...eventually I hope?

First one was so close to total greatness for me that I'm hoping maybe they'll implement some tweaks and so on that'll make the sequel a fully great experience.

PS4 lives!

“it’s gotten quite big” is kind of the last thing I want to hear from this team but we will see!

My thoughts exactly.

Hollow Knight already went far beyond a reasonable length for a Metroidvania. I just hope they can make traversal, combat, and item discovery actually exciting. Still, I'll be there day 1.

My favorite modern game I’ve never beaten, at like 40ish hours I still wasn’t done and I just couldn’t do it anymore as it kept getting more difficult as well. I was specifically hoping this would be a more tightly designed game so that is the last thing i wanted to hear!
