Awesome!

That snow! Looks amazing since I tweaked the HDR settings. Also the beginning isn’t nearly as boring now that I have some idea what’s going and are used to the controls.

Another tidbit:

if you set a waypoint and switch to cinematic mode, the horse will automatically follow the path!

Yessss I love that feature.  One of the things the game does well.

Didnt get to play much last night, but man...I cant stop thinking about playing this game.

Something I now understand is that  as much as I am finding the pacing slow, I'm actually rushing through the game! Taking a step back, I realized that from the beginning (at least up until the point Im at) the objective has been about laying low, biding time and just getting out there and earning some cash how you know best. That is the story!! I'm so used to games having this pending doom, must save the world as quickly as possible (but not before you go collect arbitrary item x from some unimportant NPC) narrative that urges you to keep going before its too late...and most importantly...be the hero!!  I've missed the point of this game. You're not a hero. In fact, Arthur is just a piece of shit outlaw that really cant be bothered with people except for the fact that its a means to an end. He seems pissed off bc hes apart of this half-assed gang that fucked up and now they're broke and just trying to survive.

I havent really hunted. I have barely explored. Ive only go in to some regions and back out only to complete mission objectives. I actually need to slow down! Enjoy the scenery, head up into the mountains to do some hunting. Go fishing more. Give that stranger a ride into town for a few bucks.  Go down to the saloon and have a few shots of whisky with that money I earned (and didnt put in the tithing box).

oh and btw - for the people who dont like the default controls. It definitely helps to make adjustments. Here is what I did that made a huge difference:

Turn deadzone off completely

Turn auto-aim down to like 1/4

Then mess with a combo of acceleration and sensitivity that feels right for you. Im still playing with this. All the way up seems best, which goes against I how I usually adjust my controls, but seems to work for this game. I would say start here and then adjust sensitivity accordingly.

Wonder what the chances are of some pretty sizable patches for this? I never bought GTAIV or V at launch, how was the patch situation for those?

@SFLUFAN has been kind enough to offer me a code, so I may be giving this another shot if that happens. I'm hoping some QoL patches roll in and that with the control tweaks being suggested in here I'll get into it. The Ferrari packaging is stunning enough I'm willing to try to tune that VW engine.

honestly, it takes a few minutes to tweak the controls to the point where it feels like a completely different game. Not sure why they settled on those default controls, but they done goofed.

But... its still a Rockstar game and controls very much like a Rockstar game. There will be no patches or tweaks that are going to change that

I should've phrased that better. I'm mainly curious what type of QoL, if any, type of patches Rockstar has historically done.

Btw, can you ignore a lot of that survival style busy work? I don't want to brush horses and shit if I can just ignore it.

yes and no. You still need to do it, but you wind up doing by other means. For instance, if your horse gets dirty, you dont have to brush its mane, you can just run it through a river or edge of lake (and theres plenty of that everywhere). you dont have to worry about eating because youll want to eat to replenish health after a gunfight or falling, etc.

you will have to occasionally feed your horse and clean your guns. takes about 2 minutes to do both at once. this shouldnt be a deal breaker for you.

@atom631 that was a good take on the game. The slow beginning really threw me off. I was expecting this huge opening with guns blazing and all sorts of excitement. Because that’s how most games start and then you race around trying to save everyone and everything.  This is a slow pace burn that takes time to set the tone. I re-started the entire game last night. It was much more enjoyable now that I understand the controls and what’s going on. I got back to where I was before. The part where you get the base camp. I’ll pick up again tonight and I can’t wait. I get it now. Don’t rush, take your time, look around. I didn’t play the first RDR so I went into this thinking GTA with horses! Lol. Glad I re-started and going to play it from a different mindset. Controls can be somewhat frustrating but I tweaked those along with the HDR settings which made things better.

What changes did you make to the controls? I want so desperately to not hate this game haha

I'm a generation younger I guess so I sadly never got to see Fate but saw King Diamond many times starting in probably '00 or '01. But the first two Fate LPs are still my favorite Metal albums ever made. I didn't get the vocals at first but once it clicked, oh boy.

There are two bands I never miss when they come around... Slayer and Mercyful Fate/King Diamond. My two GOATs.

Here is a clip from that night.

I have ONE more Valkyrie to beat... ONE more.

oh man, that one took me quite a few rage quits. Jumped out of my seat when ripping that mask off!  some of my favorite gaming moments of sorta recently are optional bosses.  The Valkries of God of War, the Legendary ships of AssCred Black Flag, and the Legendary animals of the original RedDead.  Was hoping since AssCred Greektown had good hunting that they would do the legendary animal thing but sadly no.  Fortunately, Im playing RedDead 2!!!

I turned up the sensitivity and changed hold to toggle @Mercury33  It doesn’t drastically change the game but it does help. Also turned up the HDR setting to 300 which made things look better for my television. The thing I think helped the most though was re-starting the game. Having a better understanding of the controls and what’s going on made it more enjoyable than before.

I don't think so.  I did it after starting up and my horse was in the stable at valentine.

Weird. I’ve never had a problem setting a waypoint. Perhaps you are in the middle of a mission?

I was just reading about hunting and totally didn't realize that you could study animals and get suggested weaponry and quality ratings. I imagine the game taught me that at some point but I guess I missed it. I haven't done much hunting but even when I've tried to get good pelts I haven't gotten a single perfect one. I also only just figured out that you buy leatherworking tools through the ledger and not at some store. I figured I needed to unlock another town or something. I think I'll try to do some hunting tonight and upgrade some gear.

I think the first thing you should get is upgrade Dutch's lodge. then go for the tools before anything else accept maybe some hay and a couple apples for my Jenny.  I too need to start hunting.  I've also only used my bow in hopes to get a perfect hide.  Too lazy to bother reading what ammo/weapon I should use.  lol.  I also don't know how to fish yet.

when roaming I've always had my binoculars out so I can study any animal I pass by.  Im thinking eventually I wont need to as I've studied most so I'll just have my repeater out.

QUESTION: Do you guys remove auto aim?

I felt like I didn't fully understand dead eye but maybe this was my problem.  when I go into deadeye I feel like all the little red 'x's are in stupid places and I'm like "If I didn't use this stupid thing I woulda got a headshot!"

Especially since they said you need to shoot animals in the neck for perfect pelts.  Well, throw on dead eye and their fucking feet and chest are painted with little red 'x's.  Am I misunderstanding this???
