Finally watching Breaking Bad

Recommended Posts

yeah..insanely late to the party. For years friends have been telling me to watch and I always said I would get around to it. When the pandemic first started I said great, everything is closed, stuck at home now I'll finally get around to watching it. Well I only made it in 2 episodes before I ended up getting sidetracked with something else. Finally returned to it the other day and am now on episode 6 of the second season. Some crazy stuff...yo!

I rewatched recently on Netflix and it wasn’t cut.

I remember hearing that it was sometimes being cut and thinking that's a really bad scene to cut since it's important for setting up how completely impotent (har har) Walter is feeling about his life at the start of the series.

Same. Recently rewatched it on Netflix and it definitely in.

Also agreed. It seems like a silly thing on paper but it's actually one of the scenes that drives home exactly why Walt doesn't give a fuck anymore.

already watched BCS

Ok now THAT you have got to speak on in the context of having seen all of BCS BEFORE Breaking Bad. I'm kind of jealous of your experience & viewpoint through that lens! Having all that knowledge of Saul, Mike, Gus, etc. How did that play & inform moments & scenes when viewing BB after the fact?

have to say it's pretty wild. I mean Gus is pretty much Gus is both series, but Saul and Mike's transformations are unreal.

well I am a decade+ late to the party

And that’s an interesting perspective! You’ve had a decade of hype to contend with. Did it live up to your expectations? Was any of it spoiled for you? I can’t imagine what it’s like being able to binge it all in a week as a first time viewer. Was that fun or exhausting?

spoiled..nah. I knew a few bits and pieces but nothing major. Both fun and exhausting...especially when I think about how all five seasons were really only what happened over about a year. Watching Walt's transformation, the lines he was willing to cross...just wow. Sure, at first you sympathize with the guy and his desire to just secure a future for his family...but keeps crossing lines, his ego getting in the way, driving him into one bad decision after another, slipping further and further to the dark side...doing some seriously ##$#ed up shit. I'm sure I was like most viewers and struggled with rooting for the guy at times. And then there was poor Jesse and all the shit he gets put through. Seriously it seemed like n one ever passed up an opportunity to screw that kid over...freaking heartbreaking at times.

Now go watch El Camino if you haven't yet.

ended up watching it tonight...really good. After all that shit he went through, Jesse deserved a second chance. Was great to see his friends standing by him, and you really saw the growth in his character over the series and the movie, you could definitely see Mike's influence on him. Not ruthlessness, but a sense of honor. Even after all that shit, the guy who built the caged that housed him, he would have just taken the 1800 and left them if the guy hadn't pushed it. The casting and the acting for both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul were phenomenal.
