I honestly didn’t know how to respond to his reply. I’m sure his year sucked but for a lot of people this year has gone by faster. I’m not sure what his point was. Maybe there was a better way to respond but I’m autistic so this whole impersonal manner of communication with people I’ve never met is not my strong suit.

IMHO it's gotten even better than the first 2 seasons that had initially been on Youtube Red

I missed season 3 because I dropped Netflix for a while, then by the time I got it back it was close enough to season 4 where I just decided to wait and watch them together. 

 

But now it's been long enough so that I think I need to rewatch the first two, as well.

one thing i don’t like is Tory not getting a proper W. even when she wins she loses. she could have gotten a clean win and i imagine still done the turn she’s going to do against cobra kai next season.

Pretty sure that's who Terry was talking about when he said he had a couple of old friends that could help him run Cobra Kai. Karate Bad Boy Mike Barnes HAS to show up. I'm still hoping Hilary Swank shows up at some point... I'm SURE they are reaching out to her.

 

I finished this season today and one thing I'm impressed by is how well shot and edited the fight scenes are. Most of these actors are NOT martial artists but they do such a good job with fight scenes that actually tell a story that it doesn't matter. This is such a fun show.

I would say that the fight choreography has steadily improved with each season & the kids have all stepped up in tremendous ways. A lot of the tournament fights were real bangers actually.

Daniel and Chozen team up for Miyagi-do.

 

Silver and Barnes team up for Cobra Kai.

 

And with his last second face turn, Johnny and Kreese team up for Eagle Claw. It really was good story telling when you realized Johnny was Kreese's weakness.

 

The question is who they will each get for a top student. As a double turn I could see Sam going to Eagle Claw and Tory going to Miyagi-do. Perhaps with Piper taking over as Cobra Kai's lead female. But they also kind of set up that Devon is going to step up next season, so who knows.

 

They set up Robby leaving Cobra Kai, but I could see him joining either Eagle Claw or Miyagi-do. The problem is then what do you do with Miguel and Eli? Eli just completed an arc that I think makes it very hard to see any way to lead him back to Cobra Kai, and I sure hope they wouldn't waste the Johnny/Miguel relationship on a shock heel turn for Miguel because he is mad Robby joins Eagle Claw. Other than arguably the rivalry between Daniel and Johnny the real core of the show has been Johnny and Miguel. Ruining that could be a jump the shark moment for the show. I could maybe see Miguel going to Miyagi-do because of what we saw from him and Daniel bonding(and it could be an interesting dynamic to see Sam and Miguel flipping dojos) but even then it would have to be done very carefully.

 

So who does that really leave for Cobra Kai? Kyler kind of has the chief dickhead status, but little we have seen from him makes him a believable threat to Robby, Miguel, and Eli. Kenny would make for an interesting story with him and Robby, but it would seem he is too young to really step into that role right away since they were still kind of putting him on the level of Bert and Nate. 

 

Of course, they could also just introduce a new character at the start of the season to fill the role which would make it impossible to predict unless it was a past character. Perhaps Kenny's big brother? He was portrayed as strong fighter, and could act as a stand in for a Robby/Kenny arc. Nobody else comes to mind, but I might be missing someone.

I was thinking who could be the big bad for Cobra Kai and I;m thinking if Barnes comes back then the new Cobra Kid heavy would be  his son or top student or whatever. A new character. That would make the most sense.

I really think Robby goes to Eagle Fang and they have that new female student. 

 

Cobra Kai will have Kenny, Kyler, that gymnast girl, and some new people. 

 

Miguel I think might be above it all with him leaving at the end. Dunno where he lands. I think Sam will bounce back and forth between Eagle Fang and Miyagi-do. Probably start with Miyagi-do and then go to EF after Tory shows up. Then eventually comes back.

Are we sure Eagle Fang will be around next season? It’s possible Johnny spends most of the season chasing Miguel in Mexico. The way Miguel’s mom brought up his dad being a bad guy again I’m assuming his dad is actually some kind of high level fighter and that’s why Miguel is a natural at it. That could be the whole arc with Johnny fighting for him both literally and figuratively. 
 

Also totally fantasy booking but providing what I just guessed is true…I’m gonna need his dad to be Van Damme.

Would make sense his dad is a fighter. His dad would have to be Mexican though... I'm thinking his father is a drug dealer or crooked cop or something. Pretty sure Eagle Fang will be around and I think in addition to Robbie joining, Creese will as well, joining Johnny to help take down Terry. This hsow is ALL about redemption and showing that all the characters are flawed and not 100% good or 100% bad. Robby has lost two tournament finals so he's due

I mean, it's hard to be sure of anything with this show. They swerve pretty good while still making things make sense.

 

I mean, for season 4 it was all but garenteed that Johnny and Daniel would team up. They did, then they didn't, and then they still brought it back together at the very end so that they kind of did and I think it worked.

 

So hard to say for sure. 

 

I kind of expect it to be like season 3 where Miguel and Johnny are kind of off to the side for the first half of the season dealing with whatever in Mexico and then bring it back around at the end. 

 

I love how they leaned into the criticisms of the third movie and made canon that, among other things, Terry was indeed coked out of his mind when he decided to drop everything to move cities to terrorize some poor kid in a karate tournament. I know that has been the butt of many jokes about the third movie for a long time(and it deserves it, it's a pretty blah movie) but it's cool that the show could add some layers to improve things. If anything, it improves the third's status as a "so bad it's good" status because of all the complaints you can have against it, you can't say Griffith wasn't trying

The third movie is worth watching for Silver all by himself. He was so utterly fantastic in it. 
 

Yeah I’m curious how many more seasons. If Silver is basically the end boss being the only character that doesn’t really end up with a redemptive arc then I could see them ending it after 5, maybe stretch it to 6. The real question will be, are they going to incorporate 4? Or finish with something that’s not tied to the original movies to give the show something of its own to claim.
