I think there's an increasing need to differentiate these types of American whites, there should be a particular term that encompasses all their trademark aspects. Republicans, racists, MAGA etc. doesn't really cut it. Someone should invent that so conversations about wackos like this, and others of his ilk, can easily be shifted from 'fucking white people' to the actual reality of how they're using the tactic of 'our own' as cheap trickery and a shield. It needs to be clearly pointed out to American whites that this is the real enemy and corrupter. Reverting to archaic, increasingly morally bankrupt political nonsense and social values supposedly being a defining factor of whiteness has been constructed by American politicians of his ilk specifically who probably can't wait to put 'their own' back into back-breaking jobs that give them all cancer. And just to be clear, I'm not saying that in response to your post really, just something that's been really bothering me about where the MAGA, and generally Republican, crowd is attempting to push whites. Like, they think of it as an American thing, or an African thing. Or they think that what the Nazis or whoever did was different. I think an important distinction is that, in places like South Africa and Germany, kids are forced to talk about it growing up. "You're going to sit your ass down and learn about things your grandparents did that will make you uncomfortable. Suck it, Hanz." And I think, compared to most of Europe, in America we do actually talk about race more. There are still plenty of people that want to pretend racism doesn't exist ("I don't see color!" "Why can't we have WHITE history month?!" etc), and we could do a lot more in terms of not presenting a PG-rated history of racism in our education system, but we DO talk about it. In Europe (outside of Germany), they just... don't, for the most part. My little brother, for example, has gone to school in either Italy or Ireland his whole life. They've never had any education about racism. Or worse, they only talk about times throughout history when THEY were persecuted, so it creates a victim complex* *I could go on about that, like in America we're taught that the Pilgrims came over from England to flee religious persecution. It's true in a very reductive way - in reality, they were some of the most radical puritans that were trying to set up a new Jerusalem in the new world where they could set up their own Puritan theocracy. They were basically like proto-Mormons, only they believed in burning non-believers. "Thou art a wretched sinner, utterly unworthy o' God's love. A fountain o' pollution is deep within thy nature, and thou livest as a winter tree; unprofitable, fit only to be hewn down and burned.
