Fizzzzle Posted November 23, 2020 Share Posted November 23, 2020 I've started listening to metal again during lockdown. Now all I want to do is go see a metal show. I haven't been to one in probably over a decade. I want to see a Sabaton show in Europe. Or I guess just concerts in general. I haven't been much of a concert person the last 5 years or so, just because I prefer to hang out in settings where I can casually sit and talk with my friends over drinks. Speaking of which, casually sitting in a dimly lit bar with a jukebox and pool tables with my friends. A lot of my favorite bars have closed down permanently, though, and I bet you the ones that will take their places are going to be all "gastropub with elevated fare" bullshit. I fucking hate those places. I want carpeted floors, goddammit. And pinball. And seat cushions that are partially torn but the owner doesn't give a shit and they've been that way for a decade, but it's cool because you can get a shot and a beer for $6. I also want to be able to smoke a cigarette while walking down the street without having to dodge people every 15 seconds so everyone remains safe (except me, I really need to quit. Live theater - I’ve really got into this in the last couple years (as much as I can afford, which isn’t much). Take weekend trips to different cities, walking around trying different bars/restaurants. Attend local meetups - I got into the groove of doing this a couple times a month last year. One of them loves it and decided to take a 3 month long climbing road trip and live out of his car, the other one absolutely hates it. Sounds like you're somewhere in the middle. Surprisingly, no. There was a bit of fucking going on between one of my roommates and one who just moved out in September, but it never got weird. It was also all dudes for almost the first year I lived here. Even though one guy is gay. Now it's 5 guys and 3 girls, one of the guys is gay, 1 of the girls is bi, and one of the girls kind of prefers to be non-binary. But yeah, not a whole lot of fucking, surprisingly. I do want that as well, but one thing that I've grown to like about having to wear masks everywhere is that I don't give a shit about shaving. My facial hair sucks. Also, I chipped one of my front teeth in March and I still haven't had it fixed. Who gives a shit what my front teeth look like if no one ever sees my mouth. I've also learned how to smile with my eyes while saying fuck you under my breath. I do have tickets to a few concerts that have yet to be rescheduled. I saw that Dragonforce is doing a tour with Unleash the Archers next spring, though it's all in the east coast/midwest. I want to see it, and I don't even really like power metal. It just sounds fun. If I want anything, it's more social time for my children. Was going to go to AEW Double or Nothing in May. Bought tickets to go see Coheed and Cambria in August. I also miss going to gyms and dine in restaurants. We have a regular Wednesday night bar quizzo night we always attended with our friends. It was a great way to break up the week. Full on no-holds barred hashing without restrictions. Going places not within "driving distance". Like everyone, all my vacation plans this year were thrown out the window. I miss travel. The lack of date nights is driving my girlfriend insane...The other day she said we should do something special like cook dinner together and watch a movie, and when I asked how we make that ‘special’ (since we do that all the time) I had my rights read to me. I definitely understand where she is coming from because patience isn’t her strongest quality, and pandemic monotony is real, but god damn do I need an assist.
